The 3 cousin's Jerry Lee, Mackey Gilley and Jimmy Swaggert could all 3 beat a piano like no one else could. Just amazing talent, and Mickey had some great hits during the 80s Urban Cowboy era.
Such talent, full stop. I used to watch the other cousin Jimmy Swaggart too, when he did the gospel bit, I wasn't into the TV preaching, but Jimmy Swaggart was as equally talented at the piano as his cousins.
I am amazed at the popularity of this clip! People re-posting it (and some even thanking me!) While I love JLL and this is a great set, maybe there is a collector that would love to own this tape more than me. I'd be open to offers to sell the original and a dvd transfer of it. You can write me at Billvis77@theacefrehleyarchive.com Thanks, Bill B
❤❤ wow , two of the best piano players that ever lived, god bless both of them! They brought so joy to all of us ! I want to go to heaven & hear all this GOD given music!!❤❤

Great document never seen before. It was filmed at the new (then) 10'000-seat Gilley's Rodeo Arena adjacent Gilley's Club (source Paul McPhail book). Fantastic 4-hand piano solo on Shakin'. Plus nice to see drummer Ron Wood and Kenny Lovelace, but miss Joel Shumaker (gtr), Randy Wlkes (bass) and Bill Strom (organ). Thanks a lot and do not hesitate to post more!!!!!
Wow thanks for the insight! Yeah it looks like a big place and you can see people walking under the stage. Must have been quite a party over those two days, sounds like there's a big crowd. So cool to have discovered this and these shows, I'm glad I took the chance on buying this tape lot, some great long lost history in them. Thanks, Bill B
I actually saw Jerry Lee in NYC (The Ritz Theater in Greenwich Village) exactly around 1982 and, coincidentally, his first cousin who he mentions in this clip, Jimmy Lee Swaggart, in the same period at Madison Square Garden. I'm amazed that the stage in this video didn't collapse from the sheer weight of all that talent!
They both learned on their Grandmother's piano in Faraday, Jerry Lee about 6yr before Mickey. Mickey started on guitar and became excited the way his cousin played
Dang, I would have loved to have seen this. I was 25, Marrried, and taught to know that good girls did not do three things..wear ankle bracelets, paint their toenails red, or go to Gilleys. I grew up near there. Houston was very protective of their kids, and I for one, now that I am older, am grateful. I sure got crazy after this till now. But I know it was all for a reason, What an amazing to be alive now!
I honestly don't have time to distribute copies, but I'd sell the orig tape. I'm open to offers. It is a U-Matic 3/4 inch video of the full set. My email is above. -Bill B
Rest in Peace Jerry (2017) and now today... Mickey Gilley 5/7/22.
Two Legends gone. Thanks for all of the great music y'all left us!
