  • The benefits of growing laurel and Griselinia hedges in your garden.
With their dense foliage and upright growth habit Cherry laurels can create a natural barrier. Protecting gardens from strong winds and reducing damage to more delicate plants.
Cherry laurel berries and dense foliage attract birds, providing them with food and shelter. The flowers also attract bees and other insects.
They are tolerant of shade , even north-facing deep shade. Thriving in a variety of soil conditions however they won't tolerate waterlogging.
These tough but versatile plants are evergreen and provide all year round interest in your garden.
A popular alternative to laurel is Griselinia which again is a low maintenance evergreen shrub and can be used for many purposes.
Griselinia is a good choice for hedges as it can be clipped into a neat shape or left to grow naturally. Because it is tolerant of salty air and windy conditions it can be grown near the coast and the dense foliage provides privacy and reduces noise pollution.
Griselinia can be grown in a sunny or partially shady spot and if left to grow can reach up to 12 feet high.
