Great analysis! Really enjoyed watching it and you made a lot of great points! On the flip-side there were a few points where you were mistaken or missed out on. Shadows of the Damned was not made by anyone of the Platinum/Clover team as mentioned by others. And at the part around 14.10 where you have to let people die, you don't. You can kill everything which takes forever. And then they don't die and the conversation does not take place. That and you missed out on the connection with the book Candide, ou L'Optimisme. Nearly all the characters names and those of the items (Candide, Pangloss etc.) come from it, and it's other possible implications and connections. But in the end it was a really fun and good take on the story of one of the best games of the last generation! Thank you for this! Would love to see one on Spec Ops: The Line, a great story in that one.
Great video! Just a suggestion, if you're looking for another video game plot to get you thinking, maybe you should check out Binary Domain. It's in a similar vain to Vanquish in that it starts with a pretty generic set up, but actually delves into some really big ideas later.
Thank you And no, my PC, capture device and speakers all died at the same time, so I had to save up money to buy them all, which took a few months. I'd recommend following me on facebook, because I can use that to update people on any delays I may have.
With Vanquish now bundle with Bayonetta with anniversary collection coming out this year. Let's hope that everyone can play this well hidden gem as it really does go on with everything you've said on the story which does hold true today.
I know this is VERY old, and I'm not a scientist or engineer. Also, I have never played the game. However, from what you've described the power source could very easily be used as a weapon. It's an old sci-fi/free energy idea. You gather power in space using solar panels and the like, and then convert it into tight-beam microwave or laser energy. You then fire this down at a recieving station on the planet where it can be distributed through conventional grids. The issue, (aside from possibly not being viable at all for cost/atmospheric interferance reasons,) is that you ARE firing a beam of energy down at the planet, so it's pretty much a ready-made death ray.
I don't know if anyone is still reading this comments section, but I've had a theory about the game for a long time. Russia, as of the present day, is suffering from a major population crisis with far too few births to sustain their population. At least, it was a problem back in 2010 when the game debuted. Perhaps this is the reason why Russia in this setting relies entirely on a robotic army: they don't have enough warm bodies to sustain a real one.
Another thoroughly enjoyable FTP. Wasn't expecting one of Vanquish, to be sure- but I like a surprise! :) Try some Kraken rum next time- makes everything better.
Reading too much into simple Japanese minds here. What's not explained ANYWHERE though is why Elene (female sidekick) is made RUSSIAN? Her last name is Ivanova and Elena Ivanova is a very typical Russian name.
Ooops. Youre right. I remembered Shinji Mikami was involved and for some reason had it in my head that Mikami and Suda collaborated under Platinum rather than Grasshopper.
Alas I am not great at uncorking on camera. I got through six bottles before I gave up and had to go for the screw top bottle. Rest assured nothing went to waste.
Glad to hear! Every time a drop of wine is wasted French baby Jesus dies. Great video(s) as well, discovered your channel recently and have to say your deconstructions are amazing and well thought out. Verily, I look forward to the next video good Sir.
I've missed these kinds of videos, but: I think you became a bit lazy by the end in editing the footage to match your analysis or at least make it entertaining (there's a place where you stay in the pause menu for several seconds). And I know you've done this before, but I think you use too much time on summarizing the plot when only a 4th of the video is you actually analysing. It's the analysing that makes your videos special so they should be the meat of the videos - and most people who watch these videos probably already played the game or know the plot so a summary is only for the few.
That's fair. I got a bit stumped as to what to edit in to the last portion so settled for a gameplay bit, but admittedly must have missed the pause menu howler. I asked on facebook if people wanted to see more analysis and less plot summary, and it was surprisingly a 50/50 mix with half watching to learn what happened, and half there for the analysis. That being said, I am planning on making my next video a pure analysis, so I shall see how that goes. Thanks for watching, and please message me on facebook if you have any suggestions for anything you want to see.
I'm always looking forward to watching your videos!
Thank you!
Most excellent work Sir!!!
Thank you!
No worries ^_-
I forgot how good this show is. Great stuff!
Many thanks!

Surprisingly good analysis of a game that people only remember for the action. It had better plot than I gave it credit for after watching your video.
Great video!

Almost thought you stopped making videos, good to know i was proven wrong. Keep up the great work man.
Thank you

You deserve way more views
Great work love your videos keep up !
Awesome videos. I can't believe you don't get more views.

Easily one of my favorite games, not only for the screwy plot but because the gameplay is just SO DAMN GOOD.
Loved the stories in niche Japanese developed games from the PS3 era

And here I thought the story was bullshit, guess I was wrong.
Just made me wanna play Vanquish all over again.

Thank you, but Kraken Rum? What sort of Rosé wine is that?
You should do a FTP video of Asura's Wrath. it has a story that would be perfect to pick apart
It's because of this channel that I can't just take video games at face value any longer. I mean that as a good thing.
Thanks!
Could you find the plot to zeno clash 1 and 2?

Shadows of the Damned wasn't Platinum/Clover. That was Grasshopper, though Shinji Mikami worked on both Vanquish and SotD

Finding The Plot
No problem. Though I'm still holding out on a Drakengard 3 video. No rush, but still.
A friend purchased it for me at launch but never sent it. I'm still waiting, so it may happen eventually.
Shadow of the damned is not a platinum game. is from suda51's grasshopper manufature.
PS3 footage? Does that mean Drakengard 3 is coming soon...?
You never know...
Screw top....?! Unsubscribed!
Alas I am not great at uncorking on camera. I got through six bottles before I gave up and had to go for the screw top bottle.
