Compared to my hair your hair is so dense and full. There is no reason to feel ashamed or embarassed. You are a beautiful young woman. I love my wigs, but when it's awful hot, I don't wearr a wig, I go bald and only wear a hat. IT has taken me years to show myself bald in public. But now I don't care. That is such a big relief and freedom. Gretchen you are also on the war to freedom

Thank you so much for your kind words! My hair loss tends to fluctuate, sometimes being somewhat okay, other times not great, and then really bad. Right now, I think pregnancy has given my hair a bit more fullness at the nape of my neck-thanks, pregnancy!
I admire your courage to go bald in public. That kind of confidence is so inspiring and truly liberating. It’s amazing how we all find our own ways to embrace ourselves. Keep rocking your wigs and hats, and enjoy that freedom! 😊🌟

I'm just starting my wig journey. I've watched dozens of videos from you and all of ur wig lady friends, but this has been the poignant for me. Wigs can be fun, but right now while I'm buying my 1st wig I feel vulnerable, and emotional. Thank you for sharing such an insightful video with us. Xo😊

      You can do this!
And you are allowed to grieve, too. It is a loss, for sure. It’s best to fully feel the loss and not stifle it.
There will come a time when you have lots of lovely wigs and you get to choose the way you walk out the door. Your hair will take two minutes to do and it will turn out predictably beautiful each time.
Until then, continue to reach out to the wonderful influencers in this community. It’s rare to find such acceptance and assistance these days. ❤️

Oh, I totally get where you're coming from! Starting a wig journey can definitely feel like a big step, and it’s completely normal to feel a mix of emotions. I’m so glad my video could offer some comfort and insight during this time. Remember, it’s all about finding what makes you feel confident and happy. Wishing you all the best on this new adventure! And.. I'm so glad you're here. Thank you for taking the time to comment 🥹💖✨

I was wearing Jon Reneau Drew in shaded praline. If you know it, you know that it is gorgeous. I fell asleep on the plane with my head forward on the tray. When I woke up and flipped my head back, Drew flew off my head, leaving me with my 2-inch-long, fuzzy gray hair out in the world. I grabbed the wig grip out of it, threw it back on my head, and excused myself from the middle seat where I was sitting between two men. I put the wig back on in the bathroom and found an entire row of empty seats to finish out the flight!
    But.
I go to yoga in my natural state quite happily!
Thanks for sharing your story and your wisdom with us, Steph. ❤

Thank you so much 🥹 I guess I’m just used to feeling a certain way with my wigs on. Ever since my hair loss started about many years ago, it was really bad-way worse than it is today. My hair loss goes in waves, but ever since then, I only really feel like myself with a wig on. So, it’s been challenging to go natural lol. Usually, I only go natural around my husband and close family. Anytime I go out, I wear my wigs, so this was quite the day LOL.

Bald lady here. If it’s too hot and humid I won’t wear a wig. Would anyone wear a fur hat in brutally hot weather?! Does anyone judge bald men for not wearing a hat or toupee? No!
Comfort and health first! Put on some great earrings and embrace your inner Alopecian! If more women would be brave enough to go out without covering up their head when it’s more comfortable to do so, then it would become much less of a stigma. That being said, I do love my wigs. But sometimes I just want to be comfortable being my authentic self. Stephanie, you are a particularly beautiful woman. You could be completely bald and wear a potato sack and you’d still look gorgeous!
PS yes, I have ripped my wig off more than once to avoid heat stroke! 😁

I was outside in the front yard trimming bushes. A branch grabbed my wig as I walked past and left my head. I laughed but prayed none of the neighbors were walking or looking out their windows! I wish wigs were like they are now when I was your age. They do give us freedom and confidence and as I’ve aged and become more invisible they have helped me feel younger…it’s sad how we do prioritize beauty in our society and youth. This a great video and I wish I had a daughter like you. Hugs❤

Yes! My husband and I went to the Florida Keys for our 20th anniversary and I powered through the first 2 days. Then we went on a kayaking tour through the mandrake tunnels. I looked at my husband and said I can’t continue and I’m gonna rip it off. It was hot, humid and just a hot sticky mess. Absolutely miserable. He told me to go ahead and I did! I felt so much better! I did have a hat which I did use. No one saw me take it off but they all took a second look like they couldn’t figure out what changed so quickly maybe they did, who knows, they didn’t ask and I didn’t say. I went the majority of the trip with a hat instead of a wig.

As a fellow alopecian girl who recently started to wear wigs for every public setting, i can feel your streas and anxiety thinking of removing your wig and exposing yourself to the outside. I would do the same exact thing; rushing to the first bathroom, searching for the hairtie, putting on the cap, all of it. Accepting the self is hard. I would love to see more women like us removing wigs in public just like we would a cap. Just no big deal, like a jacket, just removing things you don't need without the added anxiety. That's what i would like.

I wore a wig for my vacation at hilton head, even at the pool. It wasn't super hot in october , and with a sun hat on and a wig, i just felt more glamorous. Well, on the last evening i really wanted to get my entire head wet and decide spur of the moment to snatch the wig off and go under. No one was around except my hubby and kids. My four year old is autistic and when she saw the wig come off and get tossed to the beach chair she screamed ,"MY HAIR". People were evidently on their balconies overlooking the pool and they were dying with laughter. 😂

This video is extremely important, to express these feelings is extraordinary and of incredible value. Every woman out there needs to know that no matter the situation they have value and self worth. I agree that having the option of wearing wigs is vital because our society still places a lot of importance in your appearance and we have all been trained to cater to this mentality. I also feel the need to look my best when I am in public, I worry less when I look my best. I am less self conscious. I wish I didn’t but I worry about what people see when they look at me. I want to be seen as confident, stylish and attractive. Especially now that I am in my late sixties, I want people to see I have self respect and value. I applaud your honesty and congratulate you for the realization that you always have value and deserve respect. 🫶🏻💕

It’s so important to recognize our own value and to find what makes us feel our best, whether that’s through wigs, style, or simply embracing who we are. Your support and understanding mean a lot, and I’m grateful to be part of a community that values and uplifts each other. 💖🫶

So glad you've given yourself some grace... I live in TX where the Summer heat average is 96-100 degrees F - similar to your stampede experience... Because of this, you will find me with a hat when I do go around town to do errands... I will only wear my wigs for work and for going out to dinner or something like that where the weather is climate controlled LOL. And like you said, it is ok. The important thing is to be comfortable with who we are.

I’m 2 people most days 🤪 I work in a dirty construction office so I don’t wear my hair/wigs to work. If I’m going out to dinner afterwards I’ll put on my hair ☺ I live in a sub-tropical climate, so you can imagine the heat 😬 I’m “fortunate” that one of my autoimmune side effects is that I’m cold more often than not. I do get warm sometimes but can power through it. STEPH! You’re pregnant too ~ I’m glad that a potentially awful experience helped you to realize it’s OKAY to not look ‘perfect’ 24-7. Yes! I take group dance classes and social dance. It can be incredibly hot, plus my dance partners sometimes knock or accidentally pull my hair and it feels like it slips. Occasionally I have panicked with the heat or slippage and taken my wig off and stuffed it into my bag. I carry a clip or hair tie with me ALWAYS just in case. On days when I just can’t do the wig because of the heat, I show up and say, “this is the real me!” When someone says my hair is different. I also tell them “you never know what me will show up!”
I, like you, can get away with wearing my bio hair if necessary although I don’t feel like myself doing so anymore. I do understand completely how you felt.

Thanks for sharing your experience; it’s always comforting to know that others can relate. Keep dancing and being awesome! 🌟💖

I always had hair that gets complimented until I turned 60 and it started falling out. With help from a dermatologist I got it back to a fairly presentable condition. It’s not cute by any means, but it’s passable without big bald spots.
If you’re someone that is extremely attractive like you are, not looking your best can be hard for you to take. I was the same way. But, somewhere along the way I started putting more time into things about the way I look that I can control, and I try to let those things shine.
A fit and slim body. Healthy skin (though a little wrinkled). Nice blue eyes.
I just wear a baseball cap or hat or pin in a bun and go on with my day.
I realized several times that when I thought I had made big changes to my look, like losing 17 lbs over 3 months, people aren’t looking at you as much as you think. They are wrapped up in their own thoughts and feelings.

My hair is very similar to yours and it never really occurred to me it looks like poo. 😅It is because you used to have long luscious hair that you feel like your hair looks so bad now (whereas I always had short hair& could never really grow it out), but your hair does NOT really look like you have a “problem”, nobody would give it a second thought if you’re just a person on the street or at an event or in any public space. Maybe I’d notice the thinning if I was literally staring down at your head from a certain height but even then wouldn’t think “oh gosh what a terrible situation”. I go out every daywith a similar amount/ thinness of hair and have not yet started wearing alternative hair. I think we just don’t have a lot of hair, and if we want more we can wear wigs but if we go out simply having less hair it still looks “normal” to other people. I’m quite certain of that!❤️
Thank you for the video and your words which make us feel that we’re all in this together and we are all going to be fine.❤️

Thank you so much for your thoughtful message. I’m so sorry if my comments about my own hair made anyone feel self-conscious about their own hair. My use of “poo” was just my way of expressing how I feel about my hair’s transition from having long, luscious locks to dealing with thinning. I’ve always had more hair in the past, so when my hair loss began, it felt like a big change.
Right now, my hair is actually coming in waves, and the nape of my neck is a bit fuller than it has been, thanks to pregnancy-so I’m grateful for that! My hair loss has varied over time, and this fuller bit at the nape is a nice surprise.
I totally agree that hair can look completely normal and beautiful, no matter the amount. We’re all in this together, and your support means a lot. Thanks again for your kind words and for being part of this journey with me! 💖

Thank YOU!!! I totally get it and didn’t mind the poo comment at all! I’ve said SO many bad things about my own hair - a thousand times. We just need to let our feelings out sometimes! I only meant that I wish you’d feel allowed to wear your hair and for that to be as OK for you as with wigs, choosing to wear either your bio or your alternative hair depending on your mood or the occasion, and not because you feel your thinner hair looks horrible because it doesn’t.❤️
I’ve been really loving your videos and have found them immensely helpful and even healing /soothing. You’re the first person that made me really consider wigs as a happiness-inducing thing in life. I’m sure all your viewers feel the same and am super grateful to you.❤️

I am not someone who can tolerate heat very well on the best of days, but when I was pregnant I swear I felt hot ALL THE TIME. I remember vividly being in a grocery store produce section in January when it was about 22°F outside and this man was staring at me, open-mouthed. He was bundled head to toe in winter wear and I was wearing a maternity t-shirt and jeans. He must have thought I was crazy, but I was like, "I'm finally comfortable!" 😂 I'm impressed you ventured out in that heat at all, let alone in a wig!

Compared to what I have you have massive hair. But I'm 80 so it's okay. But when I lost my hair I was very young.
I have had it happen where my grandson didn't like the wig I had on and he kind of flicked at it. We were at Costco. People everywhere. And my wig flew off. I caught it but I was absolutely humiliated and my grandson felt terrible. He was just a little guy. I thought I would die. I think all of us wig wearers can identify with what you're talking about. And it is embarrassing. I was single, divorced, young and dating. It was awful. Didn't want anybody touching anywhere near my head. So I was always a wreck. I wish I had just been myself and let people know who I was, what I was ,how I was. I lied all the time about my hair. But if they didn't like me for it. Oh well then they weren't Worth it!. Because if someone wants a Barbie doll, that's not me. It's no need to pretend. You are beautiful. Everybody has something. Maybe it's not outwardly shown, but I've been grateful that it was hair loss and not cancer, or diabetes, any health issues, or any number of things. We are so fortunate for the wigs we have. 50 years ago when I started wearing them they looked like wigs. Your story is so helpful to other people who have experienced this. Fact is it is embarrassing.

I've never used a wig before. Btw Steph I sent you an email and still waiting for your reply:) I get used to extensions and those powder hair fibers to cover up the roots and ofc lots of accessories and makeup. But once I was at a rock concert with my best friend, she was very aware of my situation. I had a hair band with hair pieces to cover up my bald spots. I did not know people could be so cruel at that time. In the middle of the concert, the singer jumped into the front seats and we were there. We were screaming like crazy and I could not understand what had happened, suddenly my best friend pulled out my hairband. And she continued to jump (!) and cheer. I swear I saw a grin on her face! I felt so humiliated, I could just sit down in the crowd and try to wear my headband back :( I could not see and touch the rockstar :( and I burst into tears while sitting and hiding in the middle of the crowd. Yeah, she is not my best friend anymore, not even a friend .. After that I gave up hiding it from people and I freely told everyone that I have a hair issue. I told them that I use accessories, extensions, etc. I did not want to be blackmailed by people owing to my weak sides. Besides I did not want to be abashed by those horrible, calculative people around me. Being fearless is power. But now I want a wig to cheer myself up. I am looking for the best first wig for me ...And Steph! You would look gorgeous with anything. You have an amazing husband, a beautiful kid, and a newcomer. A piece of hair does not ruin your beauty. Whatever you decide I will support you!

I agree with everything you said! I live in Kansas in the USA and it is so hot right now. My wigs are killing me right now. My hair is very thin. I totally get it! Kansas heat can be brutal. It’s tough when you just want some relief and feel self-conscious about taking off your wig. I’ve been there too-sometimes I just need to take a breather. Remember, most people are focused on their own lives, so they probably won’t even notice. It’s all about finding what makes you feel comfortable and confident. Hang in there, and take those wig breaks when you need them! 😊💖

I’m 69 yo, so a-bit older than you, lol, and I recently cut my hair into a Mohawk. I’ve been wearing wigs for about 1.5 years now. I was up visiting my granddaughters this past weekend and I was told to bring a bathing suit so I knew we were going to go to the pool. Well, needless to say I was NOT going to wear a wig in 95-100 degrees F! So, I donned my huge visor and went to the pool. Normally I would have removed my hat to go into the water but I kept it on, not wanting to expose my Mohawk! I did ok, it was hard, but no one commented or seemed to notice so I got through it ok and now have more confidence to do it again in the future. This was a good test for me because I’m going on a cruise with my husband in October!

Hey Steph … I love your channel girl … I need your advice … I have a wig that I looooooove Luna by Ellen WILLE I know you have this wig also … I have her in the Bernstein multi shades … and it’s just a little to warm for my skin tone … have you ever toned a wig with alcohol and rit dye? I’ve seen it done but not on these great quality wigs … just wondering if I can “cool” the tone of this beauty slightly so she compliments me more … any advice is appreciated… keep up the great work my friend ❤

    • @WigsWithSteph
      @WigsWithSteph  4 місяці тому +1

Hey there! 🌟 I totally get the frustration of a wig being a bit too warm for your skin tone. I’ve faced that issue before too! I wish I could say that toning with alcohol and Rit dye would be a foolproof method, but unfortunately, I can’t recommend it for synthetic wigs. The materials and processes used in making synthetic wigs can lead to unpredictable results if you try to alter the color yourself.
Instead, my best advice is to return the wig and get it in a different color that suits you better. It’s a bit of a hassle, but it’s much safer than risking a DIY color change that might not turn out as expected. I’ve tried adjusting the color before and had mixed results, so I prefer to stick to wigs in the right color from the start. Hope this helps, and thank you for the kind words! 😊
