yes, this was very helpful. Sometimes, just seeing it done while explained helps!

I've always been cross hatching (using both horizontal and parallel lines), which sometimes gave me incredible results, some of my best works, but also quite often ends up looking weird, and honestly this video really helped me understand why, I always assumed combining both would be the elite strategy to go with and anything else would just be worse, but I seems like I was VERY mistaken, I'm so glad I stumbled across this video cause it definitely shined a light and helped my find the solution to literally my biggest problem recently when it comes to art. Also the fact you decided to leave lighting out of it also helped me realize how you should be placing lines. Definitely subscribing to this brilliant artist.

Thank you so much! I am glad it was helpful. Sometimes, just watching someone else work and talk about it as they do can be huge!

This is something I’m still learning…I appreciate the video. I’ll try implementing some of this in my upcoming drawings.

Awesome! Hope it helps, and let me know if there is anything else...any ink or drawing techniques you would like to see me talk about!

Inktober skills! That’s exactly what it will be for me :) let’s see if I can use this for the next ones!
The video helps me realize my problem more clearly lol. I often do both directions at the same time without thinking enough about what I do. That’s probably why it’s hit or miss for me. And sometimes I combine it with flat (not cross contour) hatching and it can get weird lol. I’ll practice my hatching discipline on the next inktober drawings. That may mean drawing objects instead of scenes. Oh maaan

Well, a scene is just a bunch of objects put together! I find so many problems are halted by thinking about each action you take. At first, that's just overwhelming...daunting, makes the drawing not fun. But as you practice, your subconscious thinks about some of it for you.

@@zack_feldman I agree! What I mean is I really love scenes lol they motivate me. There is always a little story in it. Objects also have this but it’s different. Anyway, the point is if I draw just one object I can focus more on the textures and hatching ^.^ I did the book yesterday but went for blacks because I had a really rough and really big day, so I focused on just making a simpler drawing. Today is better!

Wow.. nice drawing and your lines are so damn parallel to each other and evenly spaced... which is what makes it even better! Thx for sharing.. Practice..Practice I need to tell myself!!

Thanks! Its just practice on those kinds of lines...boring practice of just putting lines close together!

I feel like my hatching is always inconsistent, it's difficult do explaim. I'll try to apply the technique you showed in this video to get better with hatching. Thanks for the video

      No problem!
Consistency comes from practice, and from just putting things into action.

How to not overdo it 😂… I find it quite tricky to see the ballance, when there is already too much or too little hatching
