This video popped up in my feed and i can't wait for the future JF tone videos!!! Really appreciate the level of detail and the hours and gear you've put into this! Needless to say the tone and playing is spot on!!! You could easily become 'the JF tone guy' as Aaron Rash is for the Nirvana tones. Can't wait for all the By the Way tones and hoping for some Stadium Arcadium ones in the future ;D Thanks!
Thank you for your kind words! Aaron rash is criminally underrated he is a huge inspiration and one of the reasons why I’m starting a UA-cam channel to talk gear. I have another By the way album song I’m working on now and I will definitely make videos on the other albums.
For those on a budget and aren't too hardcore, the mxr microamp + does wonders. Its a boost but you can shape your tone with it too. It has a bass and treble knob to go along with a gain knob.
Great video dude. My opinion Is that the sound is too thin and not "crunchy" enough but is very close, maybe it is because fender frontman does not have that punchy high end. It would be great to have a ds-2 or a fuzz used in combination to see if have volumes spikes or just to see how those pedals behave.
The guitars on the By The Way record are quite clean though. There's definitely more crunch when he plays live, but I don't think that's what he's going for. I'm pretty sure he only ever used his Fender amp with his Gretsch White Falcon, which is probably why this isn't 100%.
I tried to do this with my fender amplifier, the problem with the fender is that it doesn't accept the DS2, so I had to put a "golden plexi" pedal with the gain at minimum before the fender and when using the DS2, I need to connect this pedal to compress the signal, this was the solution I found to be able to use this amplifier configuration together in stereo.
New subscriber. Would love to hear you try to get the tone for 'Scar Tissue'. It's been so elusive for me. He gets a tone that is so difficult to get on a strat and I can't think of anyone else who's been able to get close to that.
Man I have been trying to get that tone for Scar Tissue, Californication and Otherside. John said he used a showman for all those because his Marshall’s weren’t clean enough. I was working on an Otherside video, unfortunately my Warm Audio preamp stopped working and I haven’t been able to work on getting that Californication album tone 😭
@@MistaMahcos otherside and Californication use the Gretsch white falcon. Scar tissue I'm pretty sure uses a strat. It's got such a thickness to it that's hard to replicate. I know it's very heavily compressed but there's something else I can't quite figure out
@@b-nanaman7986 yes that is correct I have a falcon to do a video on Otherside and Californication. John said he used his 55 strat the one with the maple neck to record scar tissue. But for the solo he said he used his Tele, Jim Scottt the recording engineer said John used his Jaguar so I want to get a Jaguar to see which one is closer.
@@MistaMahcos Cool. I just bought a Marshall JTM60. I'm excited to try to get some cool tones out of it. Scar tissue might be the best rhythm tone out of any guitar I've heard, hopefully I can get close.
@@b-nanaman7986 hell yea thought about getting a jtm! It’s a cleaner Marshall so you should be able to get a nice sound! Another thing I wanted to try out is pairing the 2 mics together, an SM57 and the WA87 because that is want is used during the recordings, I’ve only used SM57s for all my videos so far but since I would only need one cab mice’d for Scar tissue id be able to use the other channel of the preamp to power the WA87 with the SM57. But it is broken right now I contacted WARM AUDIO and heard back from them today and they are going to repair the unit for free. I just have to box it up and ship it out.
Really dig this video and the amount of detail you went into. Would be really happy to see more Frusciante video’s from you in the future!
Thank you! Many more Frusciante videos to come.

The intro they do is Dig a Pony by The Beatles.
