Finally! A video that shows you how to close up the gap between the floor and the wall. This is the best video! Thank you! and the music at the end made me feel better too haha.
I know you are not making videos here anymore but I just wanted to say that I have just discovered your channel and I have to thank you a million times for all the good advice :)
Hi Violet - I'm actually about to starting making videos again. It's a labour of love but I realise how helpful they are to help folk make a few energy efficiency improvements to their house so they can be comfortable and pay lower bills.
awesome video thanks for this. My house is terrible for draughts coming in under the skirting, big gaps all around, terrible in winter. I'll be doing this
@@GIYGreenItYourself Thanks, i've done most of the lounge room now. I had to do it twice in a lot of places as it shrunk a bit, and due to my inexperience. I'm also going to install curtains where the stairs are to stop airflow and heat loss in those areas. Great idea with the sponge to block gaps, i've done it in the larger gaps, and also in the kitchen under the cupboards where cold air was coming in, also wherever there are unsealed areas :) All these ideas combined will surely make a massive difference. Great video , yours helped me. so thank you!
Great video. I had started to seal our skirting boards using coloured polyurethane caulk - I didn't think to put the foam core rod in first, and I didn't know about the product that goes on white and dries clear. Thanks!
Hi, I know it looks a bit ugly but i figure it was dark before, white is OK until I get around to colouring it in with some brown texta. You could use coloured caulk to match your floor and skirting after you have sealed up the gap with the foam rod. Funny, with information ...that's what I like to hear. Lish
I buy the Fullers Ultra Clear from Magnet Mart ...haven't check Masters but Bunnings don't stock Fullers product. They have Selleys only. Foam core rod is made by Moroday - a draught proofing company that does all manner of products to keep draught from your door, windows, floor. Bunnings should sell it, otherwise Magnet Mart definitely do. Good luck.
not really. often the gaps are caused by carpets being ripped up and skirting boards are a bit short! you could try 'gap filler rod'. I think I've done a video on that in the draught proofing section. But the carpet also goes a bit towards draught-proofing unless your feeling the breeze under it.
Hi, Yeah, Bunnings don't seem to be particularly good on this front. Magnet Mart definitely have it (ask and they will find ...nothing like a good helpful person to find what you're looking for), perhaps Masters might have it.
i dont like this. only reason being if you want to resand your floors in time a floor samder wont touch your floor so bare this in mind. however i did block up my vents the other day i found that useful as my gas heater has a flue kit

You're onto it now. There are so many ways for a sneaky draught to get in. You'll notice a huge difference in comfort. Let me know how it goes.

Very helpful video and very easy to follow👏👏
Glad you liked it
Glad you found it useful ... that Fullers Ultra Clear is good stuff. Hope the draughts are all sealed up now.
Thankyou very much your a lifesaver!
Glad it helped!
You are a godsend - thanks a million
HA! That's great to hear. So simple but so effective. Glad it helped. Check out www.greenityourself.com.au for more draught-proofing.
Put 1 or 2 drops of washing up liquid into the water to help the calk smooth better and the cleanup will be quicker.
Thanks for the tip.

Hi, It can also be called 'Gap Filler Rod' I'd go for Moroday but really you could use anything that works ...old earplugs will even work!
Good luck.

Great video, thanks. I just use clear silicon sealant.
Good stuff
Awesome video but can we do same way of sealing on carpets

would love to see how it dried??
It dries clear ... but I'll do another vid.
tip if you put wsahing up liquid on your finger it smooths better
Great video but get yourself a fugi sealing kit
Thanks. That's great. I've always just used an old credit card or ice cream stick. I like the silicone clean scrape.

Wood puddy is better
You're right but when you've got to do a whole house sometimes this does the trick without the expense.
