Maddie Poppe looks amazing. That year, though- boy did the voters screw up. Gabby Barrett was the OBVIOUS choice to become a superstar and should've won easily. American Idol hasn't gotten the winner right since Carrie Underwood.

I answered somebody else who was defending Scotty McCreery as a "country superstar- with soon to be 5 #1 hits.." like this: The "Country superstar" label is something Taylor Swift spent a lot of effort to break away from. Scotty is definitely on the Top 15 all time American Idol success list but he's nowhere near the levels of the top 2 which are Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood, who are in the music chart stratosphere. Jennifer Hudson- who is superstar beyond the record industry and Katharine McPhee-who is also very successful as an actress are #3 and #4, Gabby Barrett- definitely should have won and is probably #5 now on the all time list of most successful. Then Chris Daughtry and Adam Lambert are likely #6 and #7. Kellie Pickler, Phillip Phillips and Jordin Sparks likely round out the Top 10. Elliott Yamin, Clay Aiken and the two Davids are also still likely ahead of Scotty. Don't worry - one of my faves- Haley Reinhart is probably around the #25 mark on the list- all successful- but not superstars like the top 3 (with Gabby maybe surging to join them) and not simply "stars" like the rest of the top 8 or 9.
