Please let me know which animatics I should react to for both the Vengeance and Ithaca Saga. Also I apologise for how much I just yapped these last 2 videos but I obviously felt that I had a lot to say 🤦♀️
I highly recommend VirusAP's animatic for The Challenge because their art style is gorgeous and their design for Penelope is probably my favorite so far, I haven't seen anyone go in the direction they did with her design.
I've Been searching, and on wiki its says its NSFLY, and there's a discord link on the source, probably from jay discord. But only patreon members have access
There's too many notes in it to be that line. 8 beats, and "Drown in your sorrow and fears" is 7. Like felpsp1493 said, it sounds much more like Not Sorry For Loving You, specifically "But not in the way that you want me too" - and this would fit the line Odysseus is singing in this part, because with the way he parted with her, a part of him does likely feel like he's hurt Calypso's life by leaving her, as she will be alone once again. I know she's a rather controversial character, but from what Jorge has explained in his videos and Odysseus's final words to her, it's clear that he does care for her, after all they spent 7 years together - but he could never love her the way he loves his wife. Odysseus very well could have been dead if it weren't for Calypso on top of it. He was lucky he ended up on her island and not stayed in the ocean where Poseidon could've found him. She did not make the right decision in keeping him there against his will, but with where Odysseus's mind was after the end of the Thunder Saga, he could've been more of a danger to himself had he been alone. So the TL;DR basically is Odysseus does feel like he's hurt Calypso's life because she did save him in a way even though her methods were immoral, and he just left her there alone again - even though that was the right decision for him to make
Penelope really said: don't you dare tell me what I feel, I waited 20 years for this moment and I want let anyone ruin it, not even you. Now come here, you need cuddles, aggressive cuddles.
10:20 1. Just wait a few seconds lmao 2. Yep, olive tree is a holy tree of our girl Athena. She created them during the contest against Posaidon for the patronage over what we now call Athens(if it wasn't obvious, she won) (also if you're curious she offered Athenians the tree and olives themselves and Posaidon offered a spring of salty water and horses)
Altogether, the “Waiting”s take 20 seconds - for 20 years. The 7 times may or may not be significant, but that is as many years as he was on Calypso’s island, maybe when people started trying to convince her to give up on the idea that he was still alive. Also I think you have it right with “the ends always justify the means.” I think the melody during the “for” in For You is from Different Beasts - at least I don’t recall it showing up earlier. It’s a nice nod to her mindset: she’s not saying it’s untrue that he’s changed, just that she’ll choose him anyways.
The melody in "for" also appears earlier in Remember them if im not mistaken. The men who are with Ody on the cave sing it when they're attacking the cyclops (in the "Woo-oh, woo-oh, woo-oh oh..." when Ody sings "Now!" and "Scatter!") and also when Ody is telling the cyclops who he is. ("... Remember us, _remember me. [woo-woo-oh, woo-oh oh, woo oh oh])_ I think it's a wink on the fact that Penelope's reminding Ody of who he is. Hence _"Remember them"_ , she remembers him, and she wants him to do so too (that he's just a man who wanted to get home to his wife and son. That's all.)
@@dayashisshor it is Penelope taking the „Woah - Odysseus“ and makes it „For - You“, taking the theme for his name and reminding him that she sees him like was and is and that nothing has changed in how she views him
Too many beats. This melody is 8, while the Scylla one is 7 and isn't the same notes used in the last 3. From what I understand, Jorge confirmed on discord it's from Not Sorry For Loving You. "(Not) in the way that you want me to"
Maybe because in the 7 first sagas Odysseus is more merciful and open arms while that last Ooh Penelope does makes reference of the Vengeance saga, the 8th saga, where Odysseus learns that ruthlessness is mercy upon ourselves.
Oh thank god I need this so bad. I'm just gonna make some predictions: You will cry. You will have a small heart attack. You will bawl like a baby (and yes that is different from crying).
I actually really like what Jorge did with the marriage bed test in Epic, because in the original, it was used in story to test whether the man standing before Penelope was actually Odysseus, and not some shapeshifting god or monster, and metatextually to show that Odysseus and Penelope are of one mind/SOULMATES! On the other hand in Epic, Penelope uses it to prove to Odysseus that at HIS ROOT, he is still the same man, like their marriage bed is still the same tree where they met! I love love love how Jorge adapted this scene!

I think she also wanted Him to realize that his feelings have not changed. if he was truly changed so much and so run down that he couldn't get angry about something so central and personal to him then he wouldn't be himself. but anger is a type of passion too, she needed to get the rise out of him to prove to him. and to a lesser degree herself, that he is the same man she fell in love with even if the tree is more weathered. also Odysseus says waiting, waiting for love. she says, no i was waiting, waiting, waiting, waiting, waiting waiting waiting for you. there are flashbacks to her waiting and going through different stages of grief in the visuals, like she is explaining that while he was doing all these things she was stuck waiting, a gentle rebuke that he doesn't realise how long she was waiting, and more importantly. she was not waiting for love. if she wanted love she could have gone and found it. she waited for him. specifically. on a final note, I know my wife mostly uses pet names for me, its part of the way she expresses her love but when she says my name its different and unique than the way everyone else says it and i like that too. i think Odysseus and Penelope are like that, she calls him husband and such because reminding herself of that makes her happy. he calls her Penelope because her name does that for him. also would not be surprised if the example comes from Jorge's parents. Also great reaction! 🙂
5:09 “Ruthlessness is Mercy upon ourselves” (Ocean Saga) 5:32 “Thunder Bringer” (Thunder Saga) 6:41 “I’m Not Sorry for Loving You” (Vengeance Saga) Listen to the syllables and the melody the piano keys go in. There are 8 piano notes and It’s fits with melody I’m not so-rry for lov-ing you. It’s basically going through his Journey and if it went Ocean than Thunder on the first two, it would only make sense to have melody for a song that’s after the Thunder Saga, and since Wisdom mostly focused on Athena, Vengeance would be the next option since it focuses on Odysseus.
I have a theory about not using the name since that has changed too when he became the Monster: in "Odysseus" we have original Greek prounciation Odisseús, but in all EPIC he's being called with the modern by his crew, his mom, Athena, every other God and himself too says "Odìsseus", so the name couldn't work to remember Odysseus the Man that he is. But Penelope making Odysseus recall his everlasting love does the trick, and that's why we hear the electric guitar motif when he yells about the roots of his bed and the olive tree, it's the same motif we hear when he reveals his identity to Polyphemus :)
The part with the bed is almost an inversion of the way it is in The Odyssey. In most versions she asks for the bed to be brought into the room they're in when they meet, whereas in Epic she asks him to move it away from her. I love how when he's reacting we get a bit of the 'angry Ody' electric guitar coming in as he starts to raise his voice, and she snaps back just as strongly with her "I guess that makes him you!" He's kept her waiting for so long (OK not his fault), she is *not* going to take him shouting at her as soon as she gets him back, however glad she is to see him.
I think it's a very nice reinvention of the test from the original Odyssey, more about reminding Odysseus that he is still a man (despite his fears and guilt) that Penelope loves and will always love.
Not sure if anyone had commented this, but when Penelope’s repeated “Waiting…” I’m pretty sure was 20 seconds which signifies the 20 years they were apart, and also, she said “waiting..” 7 times which I also believe that signifies the 7 sagas leading up to now. Anyways I love your videos! ❤ Edit: Or the 7 times she said “waiting” it could signify the 7 years with Calypso?
Watch the Livestream animatics on your own time if you'd like, you'll understand why Penelope puts constant emphasis on her "Waiting" for Odysseus to come home... 👍
Me, listening to that final instrumental bit and weeping: He's just a man, who's finally come home! After twenty years away from wife and son and throne! T_T
6:03 "Ruthlessness is mercy upon ourselves" from both Ruthlessness and Get in the water. 6:13 "I'm just a man" from Just a man. Most likely because he killed prince Hector's baby boy. 7:55 "Drown in your sorrow and fears" from Scylla or "There is no price he won't pay" from Mutiny. It could also be a mix cuz they're both next to the other one. 14:41 to 15:07 Theory: maybe the seven waitings make reference of the first seven sagas when Odysseus was more merciful and "open arms" while that last "Ooh" Penelope does might make reference of the Vengeance saga, the 8th saga, where Odysseus learns that "Ruthlessness is mercy upon ourselves".

That orchestral reprise of *Just A Man* felt so happy and triumphant but deep inside to us who all listened to the whole musical it was like a stab to the heart. How can you evoke two conflicting feelings with just a sound? Idk, ask Jorge apparently he did just that. 😂
I think that Penelope's 7 "waitings" add up to Odysseus' 2 "Penelope". When Odysseus says "Penelope" he is referring to the 2 sagas where he was closest to seeing her, which I think one was in "Thunder Saga". This represents the 9 sagas (20 years) that both were waiting to see each other again.
I'm here and I'm first! Thank you for your incredible reactions to Epic. I found your channel through these reactions and it's very fun and engaging! Good luck with everything you do next! Have you finished Hadestown yet by the way?
Best I can guess? Seven waitings, one for each saga that Odysseus was kept away from Ithaca's shores. And possibly for each year he was kept captive by Calypso.
notice how Penelope never ONCE calls him Odysseus. its always "my husband" becuase thats all that ever mattered to her. She broke all his notions of who or what he is, all his grief, all his guilt, all his pain, in just 12 words: "Only my husband knew that, so I guess that makes him you!". Even when she sings the motif that proceeds Odysseus on "for" it ends with "you" becuase thats all that matters to her. The pain of hearing him say he is not the same person after everything shes waited for builds to that moment of anger and then ever other emotion thats been built over 20 years of waiting.
MORE BOOK RECS: Check out author C L Clark! I could be wrong, but to me the just a man motiff at the end is him setting aside the monster. He made it home, and found peace in his family's arms. And also, he did in fact trade the world to see his son and wife, as promised.
So in the orginal myth Athena disguises Odysseus as an old man for him to go into the palace. No one recognizes him as Odysseus at first. His son Telemachus is the first to recognize him. The two of them come up with a plan to kill the suitors. Penelope doesn’t recognize him as Odysseus at first which is why she tested him.
Definitely reccommend the livestream from Ithica, the most recent full entirety of Epic the Musical on Jorge's channel. (Starting from Troy saga) The cast and crew are so silly and goofy throughout the whole thing and also the animatics for ithica... I'm not saying that you're gonna be a violent sobbing mess... but I'm not NOT saying you're gonna be a violent sobbing mess.
Thank you for giving Caitlyn the respect she deserves for falling down a bad path but even at her worst keeping more of her morals intact than basically any other leader in Arcane, and on top of that figuring out the mistakes she did make and turning around to fix them in like 6 weeks, compared to Silco's 7 Shimmer-soaked years in power or Heimerdinger's botched 200 lol

Seven times Penelope said waiting Seven sagas of Odysseus trying to get home
notice how Penelope never ONCE calls him Odysseus. its always "my husband" becuase thats all that ever mattered to her.

Penelope doesn’t recognize him as Odysseus at first which is why she tested him.
the motif you couldn’t figure out made me think of no longer you’s backing track
Damn. If she'd sang waiting 8 times, that would have been amazing. Waiting 8 sagas to see him again in the 9th. 😆
Penelope was waiting for seven saga, Ithica saga is the seventh. so she has been waiting since Troy saga.
The Olive tree is one of Athena's holy symbols, more specific it is her gift to the Greeks that won her control over Athens, so named for her.
Perhaps 7 waitings for the 7 sagas between the Troy Saga and Odysseus returning to Ithaca?
Did you do a reaction to “I can’t help but wonder” where he reunited with Telemachus?
the waiting thing is for the oficial animatic in the stream
You should React to (Olive Tree. ) It's the cut song from epic that was going to be the last song in the musical but wasn't big enough to end it.
The challenge Is my favourite song In epic to!
8:34 Suffering Melody "I will take the suffering from you"
PLS PLS PLS Bring your teammates back for more EPIC reactions if you can. That would be amazing omg
Also an Arcane obsession is SOOOOOO REAL
17:26 I have nothing to say
She says 17 minutes in to a 25 minute video
7:51 I think it’s the Scylla motiff
Perhaps you could react to six the musical or maybe twisted, but im not sure
Now you got to do the live stream 🎉!!!!
The Laestrygonians say Poseidon SEVEN times before Ody says Poseidon...
I think the seven waitings are one for each of the last sagas
She waited for 7 sagas
Definitely reccommend the livestream from Ithica, the most recent full entirety of Epic the Musical on Jorge's channel. (Starting from Troy saga) The cast and crew are so silly and goofy throughout the whole thing and also the animatics for ithica... I'm not saying that you're gonna be a violent sobbing mess... but I'm not NOT saying you're gonna be a violent sobbing mess.
Its the windbag theme
Off topic but you kinda look like how I imaged Penelope to look like
18:42 YESS 😿😿
What do you say at the start of your videos? I just hear “[something] guys”
Judging from the flag, I assume it's something in Maori language.
'Kia ora', a Maori language greeting.
She never does say Odysseus. Kinda makes me sad, I’d have liked that
I have been yelling at my phone, stop interrupting every line!!!
Thank you for giving Caitlyn the respect she deserves for falling down a bad path but even at her worst keeping more of her morals intact than basically any other leader in Arcane, and on top of that figuring out the mistakes she did make and turning around to fix them in like 6 weeks, compared to Silco's 7 Shimmer-soaked years in power or Heimerdinger's botched 200 lol
holy shit you’re picking up on a lot of stuff that some professional musical analysts miss on their first listens
