The tanks attached to the side are indeed fuel tanks. As they are full of diesel there is little risk involved and in theory the worst case scenario is getting a leak before getting a chance to use it.
Huh, I don't think I ever really realized that diesel is harder to ignite than gasoline/petrol. TIL!
