- "First Look" Clip from Megalopolis.
Here is an a clear, concise analysis of MEGALOPOLIS:
“A man balances precariously on a ledge high above a once-grand city in the opening scene of Francis Ford Coppola’s MEGALOPOLIS, and the movie that follows is - at least in part - about an entire civilization teetering on a similarly precarious ledge, devouring itself in a whirl of unchecked greed, self-absorption, and political propaganda, while a few bold dreamers push against the tide, striving to usher in a new dawn. The man is called Caesar (Adam Driver), like the Roman general who gave rise to the Roman Empire, Cesar the labor leader who organized California’s farm workers in the 1960s, and a few other notably great men of history. But he is also clearly an avatar of Coppola himself - a grand visionary witnessing a once-great thing (call it cinema if you must) withering before his very eyes and determined to revivify it. And, after decades of planning, MEGALOPOLIS the movie is the powerful elixir he has produced: a sweeping, big-canvas movie of provocative ideas and relentless cinematic invention that belies its maker’s 84 years of age. Coppola seems to have been born-again by a strike of filmic lightning, and the movie - no, the experience (complete with in-theater “live cinema”) - that has emerged feels at once the work of a film-school wunderkind unbowed by notions of convention, but also the work of a wizened master who knows much about life and the ways of the world. To paraphrase Coppola himself speaking decades ago about his APOCALYPSE NOW, MEGALOPOLIS isn’t a movie about the end of the world as we know it, it is the end of the world as we know it. Only, where APOCALYPSE left us in a napalm-bombed fever-dream haze, MEGALOPOLIS, surprisingly and movingly, bestows on us a final image glowing with hope for the future.”
One has to admire the courage of Francis for following his blinding passion for this film putting everything on the line including his own wealth dismissing all the naysayers along the way.
This is a great director taking one last swing at the fences, and I like many will be rooting for him to hit that home run if only to show the world that it is never too late to chase your dream.
You're rooting for a director to make an entertaining movie, if only to show the world that it's never too late to chase your dream. Are you chasing your dream to be entertained, or are you suggesting that the director should dream of entertaining you?
@@yeeeehaaawbuddyor better yet: maybe he just likes movies? ? ? ? ?
FRANCIS JUST WHAT THE HELL COULD YOU POSSIBLY BE COOKING
I want to ask, is this the real first look?
@@rinedgecombe8165It's official.
Probably a huge turd, judging by his filmography the last 30 years
👌👌

“Megalopolis has always been a film dedicated to my dear wife Eleanor. I really had hoped to celebrate her birthday together this May 4th. But sadly that was not to be, so let me share with everyone a gift on her behalf.”
~francis ford coppola
This is soooo moving !!!! Can't imagine how the master Coppola feels, having lost the love of his life just when he is about to bring to the world THE film he dreamed about for so many years !!!!! I think every cinema fan around the world feels sorry and sad for him and express condoleances...
👌👌
😢
Ahh I didn't know she passed away.
RIP.
Damn that hurt
The way the movie industry has treated Coppola the whole way on this project makes me want to throw money at him just to spite them. They balked at promoting a finished film stacked with celebrities just because they don't have control over it.
Movie of a lifetime incoming
Flop of a lifetime
@@jakebiomask art for arts sake
@@tylercwhitmoreI don't care how much money it makes I just want it to be good. And I have serious doubts about that. Keeping my fingers crossed.
Overhype of a lifetime 🫠 just cause it’s a lifetime project doesn’t mean it will be -the be & end all- sometimes people obsess too much and it blinds them. Might want to take notes 📝
@@jammin2575 take notes of what? Your pessimism?
Cannot wait to see this. Coppola is one of the greatest filmmakers of all time.
I worked on this movie for a summer, over 20 years ago. Go FFC!
Do tell?
@@zacharyantle7940 Yup, in Brooklyn of all places. Table reads, script writing, storyboarding, art dept all cooking on development. I was starting out in the biz, was a lesson to see even FFC fighting to get his funding. Assumed the lesson was, sometimes even FFC can't get it made, but glad that wasn't the case for his sake. Haven't seen it yet but so looking forward.
I've never been so excited for a film!
A movie that we’ve just expected from a true master filmmaker
We live in an odd world where Monkey Man or Love Lies Bleeding gets major releases when the studios knew there was literally an infinitesimal or no audience for either film and they turn around and won't release this saying there is no audience for it. Hollywood is kind of incoherent and has no creative impulses left to take chances anymore unless some algorithm tells them to do something.
If these 2 movies are releasing in great scale, why not Megalopolis ? Hollywood is strange.
Sooooo beautiful :) Time is one of the main obsessions of Coppola's filmography : "The Godfather part II", "Rumble Fish", "Peggy Sue", "Bram Stoker's Dracula" !!! I live in France but I won't be able to see it in Cannes :( I really hope this dream made film will have the release in theaters it deserves !! :) I can't believe the BS some people in movie industry are saying, like, "oh we don't know how to release it, we can't put this film in a genre or a category" !!!! Oh yeah ?? Have you heard about a category of films called "auteur" ???? Jesus... Anyway, dear mister Coppola, if ever you read this, thank you for the first images of this film, they are superb !!!! :) Can't wait to see the film !!! And I am so sorry for your loss ! God bless you, dear sir :)
Rooting for you, Francis
Looks like masterpiece is coming our way...
You are a Renaissance artist. We are so lucky you are still kicking and alive and showing us new paths. Thank you so much Francis.
Caesar isn't just balancing on a ledge, he's balancing on the precipice of cinematic revolution! 🎥✨ #Megalopolis is the ultimate elixir for our souls, blending the visionary with the wizened in a symphony of provocative ideas and relentless invention. Strap in, folks, it's not just a movie, it's an experience! 🌟 #Cinema
Can't wait to watch this piece of the great director
Somehow this doesn't have a theatrical distribution partner yet, but Netflix is releasing a movie (that will be on most critics worst of the year) about how pop tarts were fucking created.
THIS WHAT WE ARE HERE FOR THIS IS WHAT WE NEED THIS WHAT THE WORLD NEEDS 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
This is the turning point we needed to stem the tide of entropy in our civilization. I hope this is the spark to inspire a new renaissance in America. This scene reminds me of the opening scene in the first chapter of Fountainhead by Ayn Rand.
why youtube only recomended this now ??? IT LOOKS GREAT !!!
So far this movie has done the most sublime hype ever. Didn't even know it was in production until about a month ago when they said it was in problems with finance now it being teased ever so gently into our subconscious. Love it
Holy Cow, that scene and the description, gave me chills. This "powerful elixir" of a movie might just be the antidote we all need.
That score at the end sounds amazing!!
That remind me to apocalypse now
This needs more publicity if it's the return of a living legend like Coppola. Years of development hell that should be rewarded with a 1B box office gross and 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Yet studios wouldnt push it that hard unless its a new Marvel or DC movie. If this movie flops, it wont be Coppola's fault, nor the crew, nor the cast, but the Studio that will release it worldwide.
This might get me back into the theater.
Here in Asia, Mr Coppola ranked the same with another Asia master class filmmaker, late King Hu.
Love you Godfather part one, and Dracula. Its like reading a thick encyclopedia.
No crappy cheesy lines, down to earth style of filming, no irrelevant exaggerate costumes, close to original novel as possible.
Will watch this movie not because for any actors/actress but to enjoy the film direction of Mr Coppola.
This looks absolutely genius! That twist with time got me hooked, want to know more! Want to see more! Also brilliant visuals... But what else can you expect from the man who made perhaps the most beautiful film of all... yes, of course it's Bram Stoker's Dracula!
@@LightheWorld. My enthusiasm is not only about the concept of playing with time, but about the overall concept and feeling of the scene - in The Matrix it was mainly used for the possibility of composing original action scenes, whereas here it is clearly about the development of a character who decides to "go beyond the edge" , but he hits the brakes as he apparently has the ability to cheat in his world (or in a simulation of the world?... is this a simulation of the new New York he wants to build? Either way, I just want to know more). What I find brilliant about it is the clean style, the visuals, the pacing (despite the trend of recent years) the long shots and fluid camera runs, the editing composition, the emphasis on subtle acting, you just know that it's directed by the Movie Brat of New Hollywood era.
@@LightheWorld. The cool thing about opinions is that they are subjective, and that we can completely dismiss yours. Lol. Try to have fun every once in awhile, it doesn't have to be so serious!
Coppola you are a genius. 30 years in the making, I can't believe it's finally here! Click 2, the sequel to the 2006 blockbuster comedy by Adam Sandler. This movie will change everything we know about cinema.
I am looking forward to it. I watched Godfather when I was a kid, and now I am a 50 year old guy ready to be surprised by the legendary director of our time! Thank you, Master Coppola for your passion for real cinema
Absolute legend. Looks beautifully made and intriguing. Can't wait.
Grandissimo Ciccio! Orgogliosi delle tue origini, ci mancavi tanto, ciao e in bocca al lupo per questo bellissimo film
I…CAN’T…WAIT!!!! This looks SOOOOO cool!!!’ Cinema.
This will either be a masterpiece or the biggest trash fire ever. I'm excited :D
coppola is bringing back cinema
⚠️ Genius at work ⚠️
I’ll be paying full price for this to support the vision! The world is lucky to have you back in the film making world :)
Cant wait to see this film in theaters! Just wish that he would of went after Dicaprio for the film being they never worked together and Dicaprio has worked with almost all the great filmakers of the past 30 years.
Apparently Christain Bale was gonna be the lead but he dropped out
@@tylerjames805 I think a younger early 2000s bale would look good in film. He just needs a bigger star in the film being alot of people who love Coppola films are older since he hasn't been in the spotlight in later years like Scorsese.
Holy cow!! I AM SO INTRIGUED!!!!!
I hope the film hits theaters in Brazil soon.
Espero que o filme chegue logo aos cinemas do Brasil.
I can't wait for this movie! Awsome teaser!
Beautiful cinematic work;
Looks like I'll be heading back to the theater for the first time since 2019.
I'm so happy we're in the post superhero era
Like Megalopolis(who is a sci fi) i hope the new model of movies postsuper heroes is the sci fi genre and Dune and Megalopolis and some other films and shows in present are only the beggining.
I will check it out. I love Francis Ford Coppola. He is truly a superb director
Great sound so far!
Even if it's not great, it will be interesting. Even if it's not great, I will be glad to pay to see it.
This is intriguing to say the least. 'WTF was THAT' intriguing, of course.
Bienvenido a UA-cam, Padrino...🌹
Thank you Francis, its much better that you finance yourself to have the creative fredom that you want. I also like how this is a statement of the state of current industry
I'm loving the aspect ratio. The movie that will look great both in cinemas and on home screens.
If stopping time keeps his shoes held in midair he could effectively fly by stopping and restarting time repeatedly while moving his feet upward.
And THIS is cinema.
Sublime and transcendental.
This movie is actually mysterious and I'm all for it
Awesome!
一瞬で作品の世界に引き込まれました。
日本での公開を心からお待ちしております!
Thank you Francis very cool
intriguing and already very profound.
Hace muy poco ví Apocalypse Now por primera vez y quedé maravillado. Ansioso de ver tu nueva obra, Don Coppola!
Amazing master!
The fact that he was trying to make this movie since 1993
Actually 1979
Mr. Coppola has one! Just from this clip I get tingle in my feet and palms with a slight cold sweat from looking at Mr. Driver on the edge!
UT OH! When a seasoned visual artist does another number.
Let's go!!!! 🔥
Very good anxious/vertigo acting from young Mr. Driver.
With a sci-fi twist.
Been waiting for this since the ‘90s!!!
Clouds are flying by and there's barely any wind.
I'm excited as hell for this. Always wondered if Coppola would ever make a film again and we got it
I love this Francis
ok....this trailer got my attention! Looking like a movie i actually might go to see in theater
Truly Breath-taking 🙌
Love love love the color grading
So intriguing
So the command “time stop!” stops momentum and gravity but he still manage to move and to remain attached to the floor. How’s that work?
Cinema.
Got me some Dark City vibes from that little snippet!
I Love your work Mr. Coppola. I'm looking forward to watching this movie.
A movie from Maestro is coming…
Thank you Mr. Coppola, I'm even more excited having seen it, menaged to surprise whit the trailer, imagine the movie.
I see vision in a modern age where almost anything will soon 🔜 will be possible. ❤
Se ve increíble ya quiero disfrutarla en el cine, saludos desde México
I am glad that Adam driver made the jump from Star Wars villain to being an A lister!
Megalopolis ya viene kbrones 🙏🏿
Looking forward to this.
Please do release it in India.
Please please please I hope this gets a proper IMAX release!
The Light is back!!
I'm very excited about this movie, but it's very sad that this trailer hasn't even gotten a million views. This gives reason to the movie studios that rejected it. I hope it can be a success when it is released and shut the mouths of those who doubted Coppola.
MOVIE OF A GENERATION
The clip reminds me of a Twilight Zone episode in the '80s called "A Little Piece and Quiet". She can freeze and restart time ... and it ends with a Russian nuclear missile about to strike her city ... she froze time before it hit. How do I remember these things? Of course, no way of knowing where this movie will go....
Looks like it could be a character dream sequence or something of that nature due to very fast moving, low, cartoon-like clouds without an apparent wind.
Super excited
⚡⚡⚡ Simply can't wait... any luck to get a one-sheet poster?
I never thought I would be interested in seeing an Adam Driver performance.
You are missing out! One of the great working actors today
@@kyleliegel
That was almost unironically funny.
Wait, what?!! 😳 He’s fantastic in EVERY film he’s in!!!
@@raymondsmith6870 genuinely curious what films of his you have seen and didn't like him in. like i said, one of the great working actors today
@@kyleliegel
Every single one. Miscast in Ferrari(anglo badly doing a Latin person), terrible in House of Gucci, excruciatingly overacting in Star Wars, brought nothing to 65. Completely out of his depth in Last Duel but that was the first film I saw where ever single person was miscast in the film. Even in the small indie film Patterson I found him annoying. He is just an adequete tv actor that had a tailor perfect part in his tv show Girls that everyone thought let's put him in everything which he isn't suited for. He is the male version of Margot Robbie.
Dear Mr Coppola, I admire your work, American Zoetrope, The Godfather, Apocalypse Now, Dracula, you are one the very top of what Cinema is, thanks to you, and George L. That being said, here is a short commentary on this clip: It's filmed like TV advertisement.
The sound doesn't come from the top of a skyscraper, but seems to come straight from the street, or few floors above ; We watch the protagonist, the image is crystal clear like in a studio, the boots have just been varnished, studio again, the insert plan is useless, the camera floats with multiple points of view, it feels like it's just 6' feet above the ground, studio again, the protagonist is just Adam Driver, without any further characterization...
Looks like made by school studiant to sell a parfum. What happened to come to this?
With all my sincere respect.
D
I don't understand. This was uploaded to Coppola's own channel, and they put a written analysis of the film on the description in quotation marks, but who said such thing? I doubt Coppola himself, that would be weird af
Thank you for Apocalypse Now! I look forward to seeing this film.
It looks very interesting!
Cannot WAIT to finally see the film. This Adam Driver scene is a bit intense
HEHEHEHE finally.
I had no idea the time manipulation idea was still on the table.
looking forward to seeing this in French theaters.
I think depends of the context of the scene and context of the story.Who Knows ? Maybe is an allucination of the protagonist or not. A teaser who reveal nothing, great job Francis
"He's beginning to believe" - Morpheus
This matrix prequel looks interesting
