Trying Octave Radio out now via my laptop browser. I'm enjoying hearing 'new music' and it sounds great. Thanks for the heads up! 🎵

I concur with your two letter writers. In my home office I run Octave Radio through my MacMini with ROON to my DAC, integrated amp and Paradigm speakers and the sound is quite remarkable. I have a note pad on my desk and am slowly building a list of new music to purchase on Octave Records. Thank you so much for providing this music to us all.

The sound via the Octave streaming channel is better than many streaming outlets. Often not my type of music, but the sound quality is indeed good.

No worries, thanks for giving it a try. Out of curiosity, what is your type of music?

If you ever encoding files to MP3, 98% of you didn`t even see what mp3 encoder options are available when encoding. Because almost every software have only few options to set, but in background there are much more to adjust, and when you set all that to proper settings, most of time MOST ppl can`t even hear difference between cd and mp3 of same song even on headphones on blind test. But files are a little bigger than standard 320 Kbps mp3 file. I know this sound stupid but this mp3 files encoded this way are not same as you used to hear online.

Its most likely due to the LUFS being steady and the original recordings themselves sounding good, with no over processing before going into the codec

I convert my mixes with 256 kBit/s when I need mp3 files. So 192 is not the best possible quality.

I think a lot of blame is usually put on the formats, when it is actually the music sound quality to begin with that sounds bad. How many average quality recordings are put on CDs. When you get a good one, you think I never new CDs could sound this good.

I'd take a well mastered 128kbit over average uncompressed PCM. Production quality is everything.

    Shalom from Israel,
My first impulsive response was " Did OR went into debt due
to building my dream* recording** studio" so the board
of directors and Or the coalition of the wives ordered Paul to go MP
    distro???!!!"
    * Recording is everything, Mixing is boring and Mix Eng are paid
way to much and Mastering is Psedo/ Fake Pro Audio position.
And they are being paid way to much.
** Wet, soaking, 200000 mile under the water.
My second impulsive response was that it is one of the
Oldest newest secrete in Pro Audio that encoding analog or
PCM to DSD does the DigiVinyl magic = sonic signature.
The late Al Schmitt used to print all of his mixes - Diana Crall for
Example to a Tascam 3200 (discont) DSD stand alone recorder.
Than back to PCM with the aoudibale sonic signature being kept
    Alive and audible.
So DSD encoding and the Sonic signature it's brings
    is New/Old Pro audio secret.
Happy to hear that the end listeners are so happy!
Be blessed, healthy, free, creative and prosper.
    N.B
Paul what is your opinion on the Neve Genesis ( Baby 88R) as
A proper front end / Mix desk for High Def recordings in a Multi DSD channel
setup like in my dream studio that you have built for me ?

    LOL
Paul does dozens of videos bashing MP3 and lossy formats and now SUDDENLY MP3s can sound great because they use the secret PS Audio formula.
So Paul is Octave Records teally pure DSD or are you trying to pull the wool over everyone's eyes by neglecting to tell people that the DSD is just a copy of a PCM file?
Just askin for a bunch of friends 😮

    • @Paulmcgowanpsaudio
      @Paulmcgowanpsaudio Рік тому +8

Jon, you are tiresome in your relentless bashing. Seriously.
I have said more than a few times that the highest bit rate MP3 aren't as good as high resolution lossless, but have always added the caveat that much depends on the music and how it is mixed and mastered. The MP3 we play on Octave sound great. They are uncompressed and its easy to hear. But then, I don't suppose you've actually taken the time to listen. More fun to be a barb to those of us creating something.
And am I "pulling the wool over people's eyes" about Octave? Again, Jon, let it rest, my friend.
I have been open and honest from day one., Everything we record starts out as DSD. All of it. Always. We convert to DXD (PCM) for mixing and then convert back to the various formats we need, including DSD.
Take a deep breath. Calm the testosterone flow.....you'll live longer.

Why don't you appreciate that Octave Radio is there to listen to for FREE rather than dump your unjustified bile onto Octave Records? Have you taken the time to actually listen? If not I recommend you do because even on my lowly system it sounds amazing. MP3 gets a bad rap mainly because of the poor recordings and lowly bit rates that are used, with good recordings and higher bit rates it can sound very acceptable but as there doesn't seem to be anything between your ears it's probably very hard for you to appreciate it.

@@mikesmith5389 Maybe you should actually read my post.
I never stated that I had any issues with the Octave Radio stream, but rather I pointed out how Paul has been consistently doing videos about the poor audio quality of compressed formats, and then suddenly in this video he states that the streaming MP3 format is good because it is from Octave Record recordings, as if no other studios put in the same efforts to create quality MP3 files, which is false.
Secondly, I posted about Paul's false statement that the source was "pure DSD" which it is not.
Paul has consistently tried to deceive people that Octave Records material is pure DSD which most of it is not.
He has also consistently tried to deceive people that OCtave Records' utilization of DSD in the recording process creates superior recordings but neglects to mention that all editing of Octave Records material is done in PCM and that all subsequent DSD-based files are recordings (conversion) from PCM files NOT DSD.
I think what I stated in my post applies here as well.
"It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than speak and remove all doubt."

@@Paulmcgowanpsaudio Paul, the easiest way to stop my relentless bashing is to simply tell the truth.
I have actually taken the time to listen to your stream and never said I had an issue with your use of the MP3 format, I merely pointed out your multitude of videos where you consistently talk about the issues with compressed formats, but now suddenly because this is an Octave Record project it is so much superior as if other studios don't take the same time and effort to create quality MP3 files when required.
Secondly, as long as you consistently try to pull the wool over people's eyes by stating things that are not true such as falsely stating that the source of the Octave Record stream is "pure DSD" I will not rest.
You HAVE NOT been "open and honest" from day one and you only admit the process when confronted.
Attempting to belittle me does not change the facts or your attempts at deception.
If you want me off your back then simply quit being deceptive and tell the truth.

@@JonAnderhub Thanks, Jon for listening and apologies if I missed that.
I have never lied on this channel. I have said things many people do not agree with but always it's the truth as I see it. And yes, with as long as I have been doing this channel and over the last few thousand videos there's no question I have no doubt contradicted myself-I suspect more than a few times.
But, that's no reason to suggest I have ever knowingly misspoke the truth. That's neither kind nor accurate.
You look like a someone who tried hard to help and be supportive. I don't mind criticism of my thoughts and ideas. I do mind unkind and hurtful comments.
Trust that makes sense to you.
