  • I talk about how you can possibly do a doctorate or PhD with out writing a dissertation or a thesis.
I discussed that it is highly unlikely that you are going to write a PhD or doctorate without writing a thesis.
Can you do less writing for your thesis during you PhD?
I also provide some ways that you can reduce the workload of your thesis and dissertation to complete your PhD. Things like choosing your thesis committee or choosing your school can greatly reduce the amount of work that you have to do during your PhD.
What is the least amount of work required for a doctorate?
I end with the question of whether you should actually strive to do the least amount of work during your PhD? If your end goal is to do the least amount possible in your life, and then it makes sense to try to reduce the workload of your doctorate.
However, if your end goal is to thrive and become a successful human being in which other people trust that you have the capabilities to perform, then you should choose to build up those capabilities but doing the best possible work you can do.

David Maslach is a research professor of entrepreneurship, innovation, and business strategy, I discuss topics, such as behavioral science, strategy, innovation, and entrepreneurship, and apply these to my new peer proofreading and editing platform. Topics include the sharing economy, altruism, investing in technology, starting a business, and bounded rationality. My favorite videos pertain to incentives, goal setting, and learning from failure to drive behaviors such as weight loss, stopping telemarketers, creating novel technologies, and creating new movements.

A new platform where you can earn credits by editing other people's documents. Use these credits to have your own work edited. If you do a good enough job, you can convert these credits to money.
The goal of the platform is to get people to 'pay it forward' and help other people out by creating incentives for people to give back.

While there is an ongoing debate on online forums, like degreeinfo, about "professional" doctorates that don't require a dissertation or some form of a final/capstone project, such a doctorate, to the best of my knowledge, is not offered by legitimate institutes, in the US or abroad. One can wonder while there are course-based, non-thesis master degrees mainly for practitioners, why don't universities offer such practitioner doctorates.

There is a Doctor of Arts degree, which Wikipedia defines as "a discipline-based terminal doctoral degree that was originally conceived and designed to be an alternative to the traditional research-based Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) and the education-based Doctor of Education (Ed.D.)." While I think there would a niche for such a degree, specially for teachers who focus more on "teaching" subjects rather than research, however, there are not many schools offering it.

What if you have a masters and didn't do a thesis but want to go back for a phd?
