Thanks for doing this video..I’ve lived in the Bay Area northern California my whole life. He is a legend around the bay. I first heard him when I was in high school. I’m 40 now and I still bump his music regularly. He actually just had a bday on the 20th of November. Rip Ryan wood. East co co forever
He's not just a legend in the bay he is in the central valley as well the there's far more nortes in the valley then the bay there literally everywhere
First off, love how you do the father and son ish, this is goals for sure! Woodie is and always will be a bay area legend. His time was too short for his talent. Not only a gifted lyricist but he did 99% of the production you hear him rap on. For the stuff thats available on youtube its like 100%. You have to really understand our lingo to understand the depths of his lyrics but yall do a great job. 10/10 is well deserved. I love how pops plays a role and glad you aren't biased of Northern California music. We have so much stuff, especially from the 90's that I would love to hear ya'll critique. I was a part of bay area music scene in the late 90's early 2000's. There's alot of magic out there thag you guys would be impressed with, not only by the music but also the back story. Mac Dre, C-Bo, X- Raided, Young Lay etc. The list goes on. Appreciate ya'll! I'm a fresh subscriber and look forward to following!
Woodie was from Antioch in the East Bay Area outside of Oakland. This was a big album woodie and alot of other Bay Area Norte rappers were on in the 90s m.youtube.com/watch?
Have you paid attention to Big L’s raps? His similes, his word play, his rhymes? Have you listened closely to his delivery and punchlines? Nas, one of the BEST lyricists, has stated that Big L worried him. With all due respect but Woodie is NOT in the same playing field as Big L.
Much respect to u and ur pops. Pops showin major love and respect to woods music. He broke it down what hip hop is and means to us all. Ns up all day east bay till we decay free all the real ones the solid ones the loyal ones.
If you doing Cali you gotta do Mac Dre - Life’s a Bitch, Too Hard for the Radio, Got Me Crazy, Make You Mine, She Neva Seen, 42 fake, Something you should know, Since 84! Another Bay Legend!!
This album was Yoc Influenced it dropped it 1998. There’s a good documentary on him. I believe he was in prison for a year and was released in 96. Also it isn’t really a shag. It’s more of a rat tail. There are more exaggerated versions of it that Norteños get for example Young Iggz but there called Mongolians. I could be wrong on some of this.
I knew Woodie ! I've DJd for him before. Im from NorCal and I used to be a Norteno too. He was with the Darkroom Familia with Sir Dyno. Woodie was an amazing artist and I am very glad I got to be his DJ !
In Cali south or up north, there’s a lot of white south siders & nortenos, as well as some blacks and Asians, just depending on where you grew up and who you grew up with. Some even speak better Spanish than the actual Mexican cats
never thought i'd see woodie's music on one of these reaction videos. been a fan of his since 2002. rip to him. i believe he was irish actually. the norte gang doesn't care about race like sureno's do, i actually know quite a few white nortenos. no disrespect to either gang, i dont gangbang. so how he passed.. he took his own life around 2008, but it's a little suspicious too because at the time he was making alot of anti-police and anti-government songs, and to have a highly influential gang member making songs about uprising like that makes me think that maybe it was a political hit job.
OK OK I like this channel. The homie committed suicide. Lots of questions still unanswered. But before he did he made a video confessing to murder that someone is currently incarcerated for. I knew the homie personally, he was a good man.
Heh y’all said it sound like “Latin Freestyle” , of course y’all PR NY know all about that ! We OGz in Cali love it too. But the beat is 80s 🍌 bananaramma “cruel summer” from karate kid.
Appreciate these guys for really doing their research as well as helping nor cal rap be known for the ones who don’t know but keep it up welcome to the Hard coast 831 in the 602
He's by his own homiez admission full Irish, Antioch/Pittsburg Antioch being where he's from and Pittsburg is the town/city that is like next door to Antioch. This song came out In 1998 on his first Album Yoc Influenced. I'd recommend checking out part two of this song. Sadly he committed suicide In 2007.
Woodie had 2 sides. Straight loc to the brain gang bangin shit / political exposing the government shit. Both immaculate showcasing of the talent nonetheless
It brings you back even by listening for the first time because that is a beat sampled from the 80s group bananarama cruel summer. He used that sample in more of his music but norte sidin was the one he didnt switch up so much he kept almost the same as the original one
Ppl n the comments already got most the woodie stuff covered so I’m gunna say after u check out more woodie tracks, do streets r callin me next, u mentioned big tone but he’s got plenty tracks to hear too and then there’s Awax and mob figaz from Pittsburg which is right next to Antioch and u can break mob figaz up individually too with the jacka, rydah j Klyde. Ap-9, fed-x and the husalah. All got hits together and individually. All with too many hits to list but any commenter from the Bay Area can put out all kinds of suggestions. Do husalah murder on my mind and then jacka crown me those r good starts.
