There are a couple of things I do to manage supplies. During the first week of school I have each student pick a colored pencil pouch (the ones that have the three binder holes). I write their name and student number on the top with sharpie. In each pouch, they have their own personal set of supplies (doesn't include things like rulers or scissors) and they are responsible for grabbing their pencil pouches in the morning. I reward students with extra/cool supplies as the year goes on. Another thing I do is each student in a team has a number 1-5 (depending on the group size). I will call a random number to grab a particular supply. For example, I would say "Number one come grab scissors. Number two come grab enough paper for your group. " I do GLAD in my classroom and I LOVE it! It's quite a bit of prep but so worth it! Anyway, sorry for the long comment but I hope that helps give you ideas!
Maybe hang the pencil pouches on the sides of the desks with the tiny command hooks since they have the three binder holes? And the hooks are so tiny they should be able to stick on the sides of the desks
When I was in school, my teacher had a pouch attached to the back of our chairs. I’m pretty sure you can just buy shower caddies from the dollar store (the kind you hang over the shower head, or something similar) and attach it to the back of your kids chairs! That way it can be personal for each of your students (:
I had the same issues with name tags! Mr. D did an IG story about how he tells the kids at the beginning of the year that the person with the name tag that looks the nicest at the end of the year gets a prize. He doesn't tell them what it is, but gets them something good. I'm going to try that!
I find it so fascinating to watch these videos. I work in 8th-10th grade in Norway, and we don't do anywhere near that amount of decorating and organization for our rooms. It looks super adorable though! Also how you all pay for your own stuff is literally mindblowing! Can't wait to follow your vlog from now on. First time watcher today :)
Yes! That is how I do my name tags, with velcro. I love it. It has worked amazingly. One thing to remember, that I forgot at first, be sure to place the velcro in the same spot on the back of each name tag. This makes changing desks much easier!
i remember in grade school they would always use clear packing tape for our name tags and then we would move the whole desk😂 but we also had the desks with the storage for our stuff on the side. the name tags always got ripped off and messed up even though they were laminated lol. it might be unavoidable
In one of my classes 2 years ago we had groups of 4 & 5 and to store supplies we put a space in the middle of the two desks that were sideways and put the bins that you want to use in the middle and it worked really well.
My mentor teacher during student teaching was a GLAD trainer for our district and I was officially GLAD trained my first year. When I saw your videos for a first time naturally I was confused about the huge groups 😂😂 in my classroom I put the desks all facing in (so two kids are facing the same way on each side of the table groups) and I've noticed it saves space in the classroom and makes it easier to keep kids from touching each other. Being GLAD trained has really changed my life in terms of teaching I feel as a GLAD trained teacher I am better prepared and more effective as a teacher. So excited you had that opportunity :)
I've been enjoying your classroom set-up videos and absolutely love what you've achieved over many days. The smaller desk groupings of 4 and 5 look great.
My old social studies teacher stacked the blue and green crates you hav won top of each other to put in front of each crate... it ended up working really well!
My kids have a pencil pouch (the ones that can go in three ring binders) and they store in their desks. Stuff like scissors stay in a community bin like your white ones and we get them as needed.
Pull your desks that are facing each other to be parallel with the front facing desks and put the supply drawers in the center. I used to do this and it worked amazingly!! I wish I had a picture.
I have really enjoyed watching your beautiful classroom come together! Thanks for sharing! I just finished mine and one of our new coworkers called it her “happy place.” Thanks for the inspiration!
I save a lot of time/$ by writing student names on the desk with colorful Sharpie paint markers. The name only comes off by writing over it with a dry erase marker. Love your channel.
I’ve used supply caddies and sets of drawers, and I honestly don’t like any of them for group supplies! In the end, I just scatter like 3/4 caddies around the room and put enough scissors, glue etc in each one, and then kids just go and get what they need and put it back. And the. I have supply tidy as one of my jobs, and two kids go around at the end of the day, pick up anything left lying around, and tidy up the caddies. Works better than anything else I’ve tried!!
Love your setup. I would suggest separating the desks so that you can put the storage towers between them. That way they aren't taking up walking space.
I know you hate caddies, however I have two large crates stacked vertically next to a 3 drawer set (like yours). The caddies go in these crates and I have labelled where it goes. So great!
Idea! The group of 5 with the lonely island (the one you didn’t like in one of your first few videos) you can turn that desk 90 degrees and put the white bin in front of that desk. If that makes sense? So everything looks symmetrical.
I use clear contact paper to put numbers on my chairs in my library. Obviously you would have to actually move the desks rather than just move nametags, but it holds up pretty well. The hardest part is keeping the kids from picking at it. But most do really well and a few just need a gentle reminder to leave it alone. Congrats on your house and dog! :)
Great video!! I put a tiny dot of hot glue on the corners of my name tags. They just pop off when I need to change them out. The glue pops right off too. :-)
I think in the groups where there’s 5 kids, move the 5th desk over to one side and put the white bins by there, it looks like it will fit! Also, with the name tags- maybe get strips of Velcro and put two close to the ends so you wouldn’t be able to see them even if they were off center a bit
Woah, this is so awesome! I've never seen anyone else do this, and I really wish I had known this was out there. Because this is just so awesome holy cow
yayayy so glad you got the house!! and you are getting an aussie right?! heaven!! what camera do you use!!? i am soo jealous of how spacious your room is!
Love your videos. Congrats on the new house and pup! Here is a tip for leftover used supplies (color pencils, crayons, etc.) Give them out to your students at the end of the school year. That's what I've done every year and it has been a great. No need to sort through all of it.
Maybe a shoe organizer hung on the side of the grouped desk can be used for the group supplies. Shoe organizers can be cut to size.... which can save $. hope that helps
Love your videos. I know you posted a picture of your house on Instagram and I loved it!!! I would love to see more of your life outside of school too. Congrats on the new house
Congratulations on the new house! They must’ve seen how great you guys are through your letter. Appreciate you taking us through this journey with the UA-cam and IG crew. Gives me more confidence when I start. Wish me luck about to start student teaching on the 13th!!!!
So happy for you on your house and the new addition to your family! I am going to try individual pencil pouches this year with a label attached to each pair of scissors and numbers on the glue sticks. Each will get five pencils for the week. Then THEY are responsible for keeping them sharp. The pencil pouches are 87 cents at Wal-Mart.
They store scissors, pencils, and glue sticks in the pouch in their desk. We've been in school for almost two weeks now and it's worked out really well. I like the pouches much better than what I used before, pencil boxes. I'm sure it also depends on the class. Students are told they must sharpen their own pencils in the morning before school or when we are cleaning up at the end of the day. It's been so great! A few have BEGGED me to let them sharpen their pencils during the day because they forgot in the morning. I say, "No, you will have to borrow one." It's been AWESOME!
The storage drawers do not have to be centered in between the two desks ... you can move it over so that your pathway is more spacious. :) also... if you bribe your kids with a candy bar.. or something else ... if their name plates look nice at the end of the year.. they respect the name plate more.
For group materials - snag some of those three tower drawers (like what you have) but in the smaller size! Worth the cost! One of my teachers back in the day used them, and they were legit. PS - I was on vacation in San Diego last month and while on a walk at La Jolla cove I recognized a voice from somewhere! Looked up and there you were! You seemed happy and busy with family or friends, so I didn’t want to interrupt, but so funny seeing you there. :) Love the channel and the vlogs. I’m an incoming college freshman and these videos make me wanna drop everything and become a teacher LOL! Have a great school year, and congrats on the pup and house!
Oh my god no way!!! You should have totally come up and said hi I love meeting other teachers/future teachers/nice people! Such a small world we live in :)
for storing group materials you could push those two front desks out and put the container storage thing between both desks, it might take up too much room though.
Congratulations on the house and the puppy!!! So so happy for you! And I beg you, please come teach my husband how to organize! I've tried and he ignores me, so 50% of our bedroom is chaos and 50% is slightly chaotic, but it's an organized chaos. Lmao!
Maybe for group materials you could use wheeled carts like the blue one you have. Or maybe you could put the drawers you have in a different area and simplify them
I got so excited when I saw the notification pop up!! I love your videos and you and a couple other teachers are inspiring me to become a teacher. Love ya! Have a good day!
Your a great teacher you organize the whole classroom our school is a massive mess ew I hate it.. I wish I can volunteer to organize the whole classroom I’m going to do it once the summer vacation ends
I love your videos and something you could do is assign a group leader and have a group chair bag and when you need them to get something out only th group leader can get it out.It saves space on the desk and contains drama and fighting.❤️❤️
I use those IKea carts for my groups. I also tell the kids who ever has the nicest name tag at the end of the year gets a prize. Jealous that your classroom is almost done. Our building is getting a new Hvac system and we are not allowed in our building until August 8th and school starts Aug. 13.
I was a custodian for a middle school and the only name tags that stayed on the desk and that were nice we're the ones that we put on the side of the desk
Maybe put the name tag pocket holders on the back of the chairs, so that when they move seats or need to look at their name tag they can just take it out of the pocket and put it in a new chair
One Thing I have done with name tags is just taped them down. So I laminate them then get a roll or two of clear shipping or packing tape and Put a couple strips over them.
i'm not even a teacher, but watching this series is so theraputic
"They're laminated so they can't really destroy them"...hahaha... Challenge accepted.
jodie piper hahaha I know who am I kidding

Donna Docouto I like your organization strategy. Ideas for my classroom.

How do you store them?
Lexi Michelle the whole point is to teach them responsibility to come and get them in the morning
What is glad
Yay! I'm so happy that you got the house! Congratulations! 😀 Very exciting things happening! Your room is looking fabulous!

Congratulations on the house! Many Blessings as you embark on new beginnings.

I’m not even a teacher, but for some reason I’ve been loving watching your classroom set up vids! I love how colourful you make your classroom!!
This vlog gets me psyched for the floors to be waxed and to be let into my building!
I had the same issues with name tags! Mr. D did an IG story about how he tells the kids at the beginning of the year that the person with the name tag that looks the nicest at the end of the year gets a prize. He doesn't tell them what it is, but gets them something good. I'm going to try that!
LOVE that idea!!!
I remember my teacher doing that in elementary school 😂 but you should watch out for some kids destroying their peers' name tags on purpose to win
@@inamiinas evil lives next door.🤪

My mentor teacher during student teaching was a GLAD trainer for our district and I was officially GLAD trained my first year. It’s been so cool seeing ur classroom come together!! Love it! ❤️
pocketful of primary has the drawer system that you were thinking about! her floor arrangement worked really well with the stand up drawers.
My old social studies teacher stacked the blue and green crates you hav won top of each other to put in front of each crate... it ended up working really well!

For the group supplies you move the desks where there space between them and slide the clear drawer bin between
She hearted my comment! ♥️ @earlyEdventures
The shelters in LA are completely full so please rescue!!
Congratulations on all of your adulthood accomplishments. This is a very exciting time!
I can't believe how much storage and shelving units you have! How wonderful!! :)
Congrats on an almost finished classroom! 🎆 Congrats to your husband and you on a house and a puppy! 💜❤️

You could get a wide over door shoe organizer and cut the rows up for group supplies and mount them to the desk sides
You should do some kind of hanging pockets for the group supplies. Low profile, hangs off the ends of the desks, easy access.
AHHH SHELLEY!!! On the U.S. Trending Page on UA-cam, you're listed as a creator on the rise!!!
Congrats on the new house and puppy!! What an exciting time!
Love your setup. I would suggest separating the desks so that you can put the storage towers between them. That way they aren't taking up walking space.
for group supplies, maybe DIY large pockets that fall on the d\side of the table!
I'm a second grade teacher and your videos help me get ready to set up my classroom for next year
I know you hate caddies, however I have two large crates stacked vertically next to a 3 drawer set (like yours). The caddies go in these crates and I have labelled where it goes. So great!
YAY! congrats on the house & dog! I had my fingers crossed for you guys!! exciting!

Great video!! I put a tiny dot of hot glue on the corners of my name tags. They just pop off when I need to change them out. The glue pops right off too. :-)
Congrats on the new house (& puppy) Shelley! I have really enjoyed this series and am looking forward to new vlogs in the fall! Keep it up ☺️
For supplies you could use the same bins as you used for your library.
To store your group supplies, use the compartment plastic bins you have. Scissors, markers, color pencils etc in each individual compartment.

I see you on all the teacher setup vids I watch

It cracks me up that you have to think about all the ways everything can get ruined. Must drive you nuts! haha
Fun and cute classroom supplies make me happy

Congrats on the new house! The classroom is looking great too. 😊
Congratulations on your new house! Trigger is so adorable 😍
Congrats on the house and the new addition to your family!
Congratulations on getting the house, very exciting!
Congrats on your house and your dog! I'm super exited for the new class room tour! 🤗

I love your camera!!! Classroom looks great!
don’t do the big clear/white bins for the group supplies. takes too much space.
I had a cooperating teacher that used crate seats to store binders and folders!
I got so excited when I saw the notification pop up!! I love your videos and you and a couple other teachers are inspiring me to become a teacher. Love ya! Have a good day!
PS, Congrats on the new house and puppy :)
I love their gray desks !! 😍
Aussies are such good puppies and dogs, i love mine so much
Your room is so nice! Congrats on the new house!!!

You should find like hanging organizers and hang it off the desks.
Love your videos!!!!💖💖💖

Shower caddies for group supplies? But like away on a shelf so it isn't distracting and someone could get it each time
I was a custodian for a middle school and the only name tags that stayed on the desk and that were nice we're the ones that we put on the side of the desk
Maybe put the name tag pocket holders on the back of the chairs, so that when they move seats or need to look at their name tag they can just take it out of the pocket and put it in a new chair
Yay was waiting for this to come out!
Instead of those big boxes beside the groups, get boxes that fit well under their chairs to put stuff in.
Supplies-i do sterilite drawers, one for each supply-scissors, glue, highlighters, whatever. Then my students pass them out as needed.
Is it just me, or am I the only one who LOVES her sped up music 😍☺️!!
Omgg congrats on getting a doggy and a new house !! ❤️❤️
Your classroom is so cute! Congrats on your new house!!
Congrats on the house and u will be in love with the Aussie. Ours is 15 and we love her.
It's ironic that my school supply theme is the same theme as your classroom
you should vlog your day to day "normal" life too or maybe make a second channel just for that! i can't be the only one that wants it!!!
So excited to see this finally!!
I used Velcro strips, one for each side and it works great for me last year. I teach second grade.
One Thing I have done with name tags is just taped them down. So I laminate them then get a roll or two of clear shipping or packing tape and Put a couple strips over them.
Jared McLeland that’s exactly what I do! Do your students pick at the tape and rip their name tags? Mine do, and it drives me crazy!
Yes I tell them if I see them picking at the tape they don’t get a name tag. Most of the time this helps.
Try Velcro tape for the name tags instead of the dots! They’re stronger than the dots and the ends won’t corners won’t stick up.
