Safely navigating the marsh and locating biting fish in the first place are the two most important things I have to teach you. Learn them both and more inside Inshore Fishing 101: www.lafishblog.com/if101/
Absolutely I enjoy watching the thought processes more than you just catching fish. It’s great to hear the method that got you to the secret honey hole
Thank you, but I don't want to give you the impression that I don't push the envelope, because I do. I've definitely gotten boats stuck, ripped off lower units, and one time even sunk a boat. If I seem a cautious, it's because I know what can happen as I've been doing this for a long time. After that, perception is reality. Thanks for watching!
Great 2nd part of the video. Showed that patience and knowledge pays off. Understanding the difference between structure and cover as you explained! Enjoy the length of these videos. Very informative and entertaining...
Definitely keep making the videos. I learn a lot watching you. I live here in Covington. I have a small 16 foot 1983 bass tracker 3. What an old Evinrude 35 on the back Trying to learn where I can go and where I can't .
That's all you need. I caught lots of fish in a similar sized, similar-powered boat. Especially this time of year. Just get out there and get your time on water. Thanks for watching!
@@johnbunje9054 I’ve got an old boat too and I’ll tell you there’s no better feeling than having an ice chest full of trout while all the $100,000 boats pull up with nothing. Lol
Same here…. I have a 1648 alweld sportsman with a 40hp tiller. I always worry about getting swamped in heavy boat traffic. Can you do a video on how you launch solo??
Great vid Capt. Dev. Made the same exact journey. In fact I bet if we overlaid our tracks they would be almost identical with very similar results. We drifted the flat throwing our 5” Jerk Shad and would get bit between the well head and the sunken boat, reload then drift again. Never was able to spot lock on them. Be safe brother.
Thank you so much. Yes, you have a lot of great vids and people should head over to your channel to check them out. Our tracks probably would be similar. Great minds think alike. lol Actually, there's a video from 2021 where I fished this flat to catch 25, but it was a far more deliberate grind: ua-cam.com/video/4oyoMssO4II/v-deo.html At the end I go over the tracks on the bow graph and you can see something like 10 drifts. Yeah, that works, but I'd rather just go to Venice. lol Thanks for watching!
@ remember that video well. Actually ran it through my head as we were repeating drift after drift. Not 10 times, but then again we were only trying to catch 15 not 25! Thanks for the kind words brother. Semper Fi and Merry Christmas. Hope to see you out there in 2025. God Bless.
I use an old window weights to slow my boat down on a windy day. I just let it touch the bottom with the point of the weight. Works very well. If you would like to try it. I have about 10 or 20 of them someone gave me.
Thanks for your video before this one , we don't always find them . I am in Georgia thinking anywhere in Louisiana you stop there would be trout there. Thanks for reality.
Learning "where they ain't" is very much part of the process. I think a lot of "creators" struggle with perception. They want to be perceived as being experts, they don't want their shortcomings exposed and that's why you see the heavily edited, non-stop catching. Even in my edited videos I did my best to communicate the grind, if there was one, or the struggle. Sometimes I get lucky and go straight to them. This long and unedited format better communicates the reality of fishing. Even though I didn't find them at the first few spots, I did eventually find them and figure 'em out. Thanks for appreciating that.
Would like to see a video of your way of cleaning and oiling your reels being you fish alot in saltwater and how those reels are holding up in the saltwater
Devin I want to know what your opinion on "major feed" I have a friend that only pays attention to that and none of the other aspects of fishing that you cover in your courses. Obviously he doesn't have much success but I've never heard the term until recently and would like to know what you think of the topic.
It sounds like you are a member of LAFB Elite, if so then you can find the video where I elaborate on why here at 44:30 : www.lafbelite.com/lesson/if101-8-2/ In a nutshell, I feel that one cannot predict fishing off a single condition, and that solunar majors and minors are the horoscopes of fishing. You may as well get your palm read. If I were to be more charitable: such a thing is tone deaf to all the other needs of fish (specks and reds) and conditions being exerted on them. "he doesn't have much success" And there you go. Anybody can claim to be a comedian, but they're only taken seriously when they can make people laugh. Well, anybody can pick up a fishing rod and be an angler, but they can't be taken seriously if they can't catch fish. One has to be able to catch to prove what he thinks. I do. One also has to be able to recognize when he is wrong, and I have been wrong and, when given the appropriate amount of evidence, have admitted so and changed my mind. So when someone can do that for major and minor feeds, I will change my mind. Until then, things like wind and primary forage and more take precedence.

Should I keep making these videos? If so, let me know with a thumbs up! Thank you for watching.
You’re videos never get old man.
Too long. Suspenseful but too long. Keep making them though. You teach us alot.
Keep em coming, lots of really good information in these!
definitely

You're like the only dude I watch on UA-cam with sensible boat navigation, awareness, and safety. I really appreciate your content.

Can you do a video on how you launch solo??
Two of the best fisherman in south LA use aluminum bass boats Capt Devin and Marshman so I’d say you’re in good company.
@@j4m2b That's a great recommendation but UA-cam literally has hundreds of those videos already. Did you try searching "how to launch a boat solo?"
Yes, thanks for the video! Keep them coming
Plz keep making these videos, they just as good as the old videos if that’s possible.
I will, John! Thank you for watching!!

TBH I preferred the old videos BUT clearly you not having to spend hours editing the videos means you upload more frequently then I prefer these.
Yeah, I haven't uploaded this often in years. I'd rather just do it like this.

No Clicker Mafia 😤
There are now four inside the boat, and another 8 in the garage. lol
Finally
