You are blessed, my father rented a house in Seaside heights when I was 11 , his best friend had moved to Toms River a few years earlier . I remember dreaming of living in Toms River . I grew up in Hamden CT.

Thank you. I try to remember my blessings as I often take them for granted. Where do you live now? Still in or near Hamden, CT?

Great video Jim! My family and I moved to Toms River in 2019 right before the housing prices exploded. We love it down here and look forward to taking advantage of the beaches and outdoor activities.

The High School was known as Monsignor Donovan High School AKA Mondon. The lower school was and still is St. Joseph grade school.
The High School is now Donovan Catholic.

I remember when it was "all" St. Joseph's. I actually was an "Altar Boy" for the actual Monsignor Donovan on many occasions, including when he was Father Donovan.

I grew up in Toms River. It's a sleepy beach town. Don Henley's song "Boys of Summer" reminds me of Seaside in the winter months. Places like Pine Lake Park and Holly Oaks are now overrun by Hasidic Jews.

I grew up in Toms River too but when I think of a "sleepy beach town", I think more of Ortley Beach, Lavallette and Seaside more than Toms River. As far as your comment about Pine Lake Park and Holly Oaks; the migration of those of the Orthodox and/or Hasidic belief is a geographic reality no different than when the Italians, Irish and other nationalities emigrated to New York City.

Jim, you take me back in time! I'm 60 now and grew up in a town called South Amboy, and we had a bungalow in Seaside Park (Short Villas) through the 60s, 70s and sold it in the late 80s. Wife and I live in FL now, and its funny because I still miss the Jersey Shore! I had so much fun there as a teen! What we going to do? One block away was the boat ramp/pier where we could crab and fish! Beach? Two blocks in the other direction! Entertainment? Walk to the boardwalk. It was also cool because during the summer, all the girls would leave their boyfriends back up north and hang with us guys down the shore. We spent summers down there and winters up in South Amboy. BTW, I was good friends with Jon Bonjovi... Have not seen him since the 90s though, but I have a ton of great memories.
