  • Coming home to the smell of fuel oil is awesome. It means you have a bad night ahead of you. This is what happens...call your home heating provider, and then they call in EPA services for clean up...I'm lucky this wasn't worse...I caught it early. If your oil tank is 50 years old, replace it!

Got mine replaced Today, spotted a tiny leak a week ago and went online looking for the cheapest price since everyone quoted me 5k.
So found a company that replaced my tank, lines, pump existing oil into the new one and taking the old one away for 3.500 dollars

How much did it all cost? How old was your tank? I have one that I just inpected and cleaned all around mine... Mine has no issues as of right now...I up in Mass and need to fill mine up, was going to have them (Oill Co) inspect it to get a letter for my homeowner insurance...

Clean up, pumping out fuel was like 3K and new tank was another 3K...6K total. Insurance fucked me. The tank was probably original to house like 1953.

We had our oil tank leak back in December. Thankfully it was caught in an early stage so that it could be cleaned up. Then the oil was pumped out of the tank and into a temporary tank. We had the temporary tank until today (March 31, 2022) and a brand new tank was installed. The old tank was from 1954. It served well. I do think that it is a good idea to replace an old oil tank (more than 50 years old) to play it safe. This way you can avoid dealing with a leaky oil tank.

@@KAFKUBA I might be blind, but I don't see any product mentioned in the description. I saw the environmental workers spreading something (kitty litter? some other granulated substance?). The guys taking care of ours spread something out, but I'm looking to see if I can have something on hand to use if I find the odor doesn't go away. I will definitely be looking into replacing our tank once we've burnt through this oil (since the tank itself isn't leaking). its 50+ years old as well.

  • @marisalouisa4518

Here is a very cheap temporary fix until you burn off the oil heating your home. You need three things: car jack, rubber foam hose pipe cover (used to insulate copper hot water lines, so that size), and kitty litter. So, you do this GENTLY! Take 3 inch section of hose, place it on the jack and lift that up to the leak to keep it from leaking more. Put kitty litter on the oil that has already dripped and put extra if your fix leaks a bit. You can tighten the jack as needed, to a point of course. Let the tank run empty, then get that sucker out of there - you should be able to do that yourself - it's not so hard (safety first, right! If you cut it in place as some people do, don't blow yourself up, ok?), and remember to put the filter and hose part in a bucket after you take it off the tank. You will then have to prime the hose when you fill the new tank. That's a good time to have your furnace cleaned, filter replaced, etc. by a professional.
