    I use my DR Power chipper to shred leaves, branches, basically any organize material and spread it in my flower beds. The soil has turned from hard compacted clay into black crumpling soil.

    Thanks for your video, it's been hard to find examples of the champion chomping leaves.
    Your split apart rake is cool! Where did you find it/what is it called?

      Found it! Umantools 3-in-1 Multi-Purpose Leaf Rake, RG27W.

      Thanks! Thats good to know 😁. I try to get good angles I might want to see in a video.
      The rake was from Canadian Tire... though if you're not from Canada I'm not too sure. Perhaps Lowes?

      That is a cool rake. I'll have to pick one of those up. Bought, but have yet to use, the 224cc Champion. Looks like it will work perfectly for my needs.

    Most chippers . The hopper opening is so small it want take leaves well at all. The other videos on wood chippers. You can only put a hand full of leaves in the hopper, and then use a stick to push them thru the opening. If you have very many leaves. You would be all day!

      True. Even this chipper, if I put too big of a handful in the top the same thing happens. Smaller handfulls are alright, and sometimes I'll "shake" them in a bit at a time rather than letting too much bunch up and need a stick to stir and poke it.

    Great video.I just bought the same machine.Have you had to sharpen the blades yet? I was wondering how long before I'll need to have them sharpened.

      Thank you! We've had this chipper for 2 years and we haven't had to sharpen or change any blades yet. I would imagine it all depends on how often its used, if your chipping fresh or dried branches (dried is harder) and how much has gone through. Next summer I'll probably take a closer look at the blades and make a video on checking and replacing but as of yet I havent needed to.

      Update. Third year and still razor sharp. Very good blades on this machine for my wife and myself to use.

    So what you have there is a method of environmentally friendly gardening techniques by using a non-environmental friendly gasoline powered machine which is contrary to the whole idea of this kind of gardening I suggest building a big compost pile that doesn't require any gasoline engines

    • @narrowpathjourney
      @narrowpathjourney  Рік тому +3

      We do have a very large compost pile as well! Also a very large branch pile, and trust me, branch piles dont break down as quickly as some might think, even under other organic debris. With the amount of branches we cut every summer our yard would look terrible having branch/compost piles building up and we only live on just under 3 acres. Compost doesnt make wood chips though and I'm also not about to make chips by hand. Plus gasoline is better than power cords and relying on the power grid in my opinion. Plus, burning "fossil fuels" is a heck of a lot cleaner and aquired better than the open pit lithium and cobolt mines, which do a lot more damage to the environment to make batteries for battery powerd equipment. This isn't heaven or new earth, nothing is perfect and we do what we can within our means of doing so. Thanks for your input though! We're always making changes to how we do things to make what we do more efficient. It takes time!

      @@narrowpathjourney Well said. Also, electricity is derived mostly from burning coal (around 85% IIRC). There are no solutions, only tradeoffs.

      @@lepton31415 I think he's concerned particularly that gasoline combustion at the high temperatures typically in engines (more so for diesel) produces both NO and NO2 when nitrogen is present. Additionally there is the global concern that the CO2 produced as a result of combusting a long sequestered carbon source is altering the carbon cycle, thus raising the concentration of this gas in the atmosphere to levels not seen in over 3 million years. I'm just guessing though, you're the chemist after all.

      @@lepton31415 I don't have the time to argue basic century old physics, or the fact that greenhouses that require CO2 supplementation are closed environments. I'm simply attempting to guess the OP's environmental concerns. I am surprised however that a graduate chemist would not know about NOx formation, aside from your political beliefs.
