I’m definitely one of the people buying this figure as a Transformers fan, and for the most part plan on having this guy as a stand-alone. What I love about this reinterpretation is how it corrects what my problem with the Siege line: this actually looks like a crazy sci-fi reimagining. I know Takara have said they don’t plan on tackling more of the Car Robots subline, but I would love to see an adaptation of the original Sunstreaker and Ironhide designs. A modern headless Ironhide/Ratchet would be hilarious.
Speaking of Sunstreaker, you might wanna check out the OVA D-1 Devastator. It was by Takara and oddly enough, there's a mecha called the Vector Versus which suspiciously looks like a red lambo that transforms into what could have been a Diacloned Sideswipe, fighting against alien insects so there's your answer to that. Sadly, not much merch of D-1 Devastator sadly.
This is such a wonderful video. The set is tons of fun by itself, but adding this beautiful footage, the deep knowledge of the callbacks to the original line, and the creations you put together with your kids makes it so much easier to enjoy the figure. I'd love to see you do more on the reboot series!
Thanks very much! Yeah I'm definitely planning to do, but I also want to mix it up as the channel is entirely Diaclone at the moment which wasn't my sole intention.
I remember when battle convoy was first announced, I wanted him quite a bit but after a couple months I had some second thoughts due to price and also the trailer, didn’t think it would do much. Thanks to your video I see that this figure is definitely worth it and seeing all the things you can do with the trailer is what sold me. I now have this pre ordered from the chosen prime. Great and informative video!!
I had to revisit this video because you do such an amazing job of breaking down every bit of this particular release. I'll say it again, I really look forward to when you will have time to do another review/overview. There have been quite a few releases since your last video, so you wouldn't be lacking for subjects. Take care!
As a Diaclone fan, you might wanna touch on the OVA D-1 Devastator someday because there are some things that could work including the flagship mecha which looked like a future Sideswipe. 2:19, smoke on the water~ 3:17, TRANSFORM AND ROLL OUT!! 10:54, or Rhino GROUNDER mode if you wanna GRIND your enemies to dust. Rhino Grinder would do too.
Great vid man. I don't currently have any diaclone but am strongly thinking about getting this one. The price is the main factor causing me to rethink though. These buggers make masterpiece transformers seem reasonably priced
Cheers! Yeah everything is getting more pricey now unfortunately. I do think this guy is still a good buy at retail price, but I do think around half the price would be a more reasonable value proposition across the line as a whole. I know it's stupid to say "oh they should be half price" but that would be where it really would feel like you're getting your money's worth and it would have mainstream appeal. I'd love it if kids were able to access this stuff like many of us had in our childhoods - imagine getting this guy for Christmas as a 7 year old :)
Thanks man, awesome video!! I love the prototype-inspired Orion Pax kinda robo.. I think it would have been a touch cooler with the black eye-visor of the prototype but it's still an epic nod & amazing set all up 😃
If im getting this right the diaclones universe had all of the G1 Figures being a type of mass produced mecha that was used to spy on there alien enemies so this makes sense why DA-65 battle convoy exactly looks like optimus also i like this toy line
Pretty much, yep :) This guy is the spiritual successor of BattleConvoy which was the original Optimus Prime toy. So it's fair to call him Prime even if the purists might be upset! Diaclone was the main line but Takara had Microchange and I think maybe some Microman that also made the vast majority of the initial G1 line, then there was Jetfire from Bandai's Macross which was why he looked so different on-screen to the toy.
I feel bad for the people At takara Who had to design this By Not making prime again It must have been really hard. Great work And Keep it up RoboToyWorld!
I don't know, there's been so many iterations of Prime it would be a nice feeling to do a Battle Convoy. And in many ways this has a lot stronger connection with G1 Prime than the majority of iterations since. Also they get to design cool toys for a living so I won't feel too bad for them :) Thanks for watching!
I think the play set aspect of the trailer is really great but even though it has so many included attachments if you only have this guy and no other diaclone figures and sets it is a bit lack lustre. I wish the sets of dianaughts weren’t so expensive. I have one of the early packs for blue and grey guys that fit in nicely but I’d definitely like more bikes but feel like I’m being ripped off just a little. I posted my base set up on the Diaclone subreddit (which is painfully small but also how I found your channel) with the trailer loaded with Powered Suit raid chambers and other stuff.
I wanna start getting into these but I'm not sure where to start. I missed all the heroic/main hero color verions. I was thinking I may start with gridman since I'm also a ultraman fan. 😆
Thanks for watching and commenting :) The Gridman release was OK but really not that great from a purely Diaclone perspective. You may still be able to pre-order DA-80 Big Powered in some places - I think he'd be a great place to start without going to the resale market. I'm sure they will do a full repaint of Battle Convoy too, or at least allow you to buy the full trailer separately as it really is the best kit in my opinion and TakaraTomy would be heavily invested in it. DA-79 (The black "V-Shadow" Battle Convoy) would be a great figure and there will surely be a black version of the DA-85 Powered Convoy accessory so that's another option. Good luck and enjoy!
Great video. I did not know they were so niche. I just thought the part count and detail was why they are priced. Have you seen the Mega Box line from 52toys? They have a couple of vehicles that have space for a dianaut pilot.
I do understand why Diaclone isn’t as popular else where in the world, but it would be nice if it was more popular worldwide, since it would be cool to see any wacky or out right crazy or even weird (questionable) customizations of these Diaclone toys.
Yeah they do, although this is the most "playset" of the line so far. You can see all the previous, current and upcoming releases on the TakaraTomy website here - www.takaratomy.co.jp/products/diaclone/lineup/
@@robotoyworld wow they got a line up there a lot coming out. I love it all looks amazing. I bought a mech fans toys omega supreme a long time ago and it came with two little robots a drone with a gun on it and a tank looking one with two cannons on it with two containers and also two huge guns that I didn’t know what they where all for but apparently it was dial one stuff cause I see it all o that site or atleast the same things
Thanks for watching. I'm not actively doing video reviews at the moment but I actually just spent the weekend playing with it and can say that the Powered Convoy kits (either DA-85 if you own a Battle Convoy or DA-92 for the complete stand-alone) are a ton of fun and really beef up Battle Convoy. I suspect both will become as hard to track down as the original DA-65 Battle Convoy unfortunately, so I'd recommend grabbing one now if you can find it in stock at a retailer.
So it's a combination of two sets - that's maybe why you can't find it. If you look at the Official Takara Tomy page for Diaclone here (www.takaratomy.co.jp/products/diaclone/lineup/) you can see DA-95 "Ground Dion" which is the bottom half, and DA-100 "Cloud Across" which is the top half. DA-95 has been out about a year but I believe is still available at a few retailers around the place and DA-100 is slated for release in the next few months so you can preorder it.
Just got my Battle Convoy so I've finally watched this video (didn't want to spoil myself) and it's great as usual. I have one question though. I notice both you and the toy's packaging show the bullet mode of Versriser-Unit 01 plugged into one of the plastic connectors, so it's lined up against the wall. Maybe I'm doing something wrong but mine doesn't really fit. The small plugs at the back of the bullet mode stop it from plugging into the connector, so although you can get it to vaguely sit in the right spot it doesn't seem to connect like the regular bullet cores you get with Convoy. Or am I doing something wrong?
Thanks Arthur and congrats on it finally arriving! So the Vers Suits don't fit as well as the Trivers bullet core, as they don't have the port in the back to plug in. Instead they rely on the friction on the sides (shoulders?) to hold them in place. You're right in that the little plugs can get in the way and I've just had a look, some of mine sit better than others but definitely check they're clicked into the body/back correctly in the transformation. You're right in that it's definitely a bit sloppier than we're used to seeing in this line though.
@@robotoyworld Thanks for the reply. Glad to know I wasn't missing anything but a shame not all bullet cores are created equal. In the end I flipped the connector upside down, which fits much better, and attached it to the crane hook - which looks really good.

Don’t mean to scare you but better to be safe than sorry 🙂 Diaclone has really tight tolerances on the manufacturing, so it’s just natural that things are more rigid at first. I’m sure that’s probably why your trailer door is a little tight also. Have fun and thanks for checking out the video!
I love the diaclone line but the price is ridiculous. I mainly collect generations line and that takes up pretty much most of my hobby money. Diaclone looks super cool though. A lot of playability.
Cheers Jon. Yes it is a beast... so much so that they've split it into two halves released over two years. We got the waist down, known as "Ground Dion" (or DA-95) about six months ago and the top half "Cloud Across" (DA-100) is due sometime in the first half of 2024. There's also a ton of little upgrade kits and stuff that they've announced and some have also been released. It is very expensive but actually I think trying to find a new DA-65 would be even more expensive now! So if you are at all interested and have the means, I'd recommend grabbing the new Robot Base before it skyrockets in price. Of course, if Takara do re-release these at some point then everything gets a lot more affordable... still very expensive but resale for some of these are 2X or 3X the (already significant) original retail price.
Nah it was more a reference to the science fiction styling of the Diaclone Reboot line. To me, Optimus Prime will always be the G1 Prime so this guy looks like a space version of that, if that makes sense.
@@robotoyworld Oh ok, also I think it would be cool to see diaclone in a live action form similar to the transformers movie reboot series, what do you think?

I think it's all open for interpretation, but you can easily combine him with upgrade parts or bits and pieces from other Diaclone figures to make him explicitly an air/space combat mech. The Powered Convoy upgrade (DA-85) and stand alone figure (DA-92) both have wings with jets for example.
I've never seen a toy line that's so clearly intended for adults. Seriously, how many kids are gonna play as intended and maximize the enjoyment with the expansion and the configurations?
Yeah that would have been amazing. It's hard to see exactly what this line is for Takara though, as they seem content to see it as purely a niche domestic exercise.
Unfortunately this guy is just too much now. I saw it yesterday in Japan for over 140,000 yen so while the yen is weak atm it's still roughly four times what he was at retail. Of course value is relative but I really hope they do a reprint on this guy so more people can get the chance to appreciate it.
wow these diaclone are killer a simple look at this toy, you clearly see the quality level goes way beyond transformers let's be honest mp44 is a fucking joke
Look I don’t know if I’d go that far 😂 MP44’s transformation is ridiculous but I love both modes. This guy is super straight forward fun and the more (compatible) Diaclone you have the more interesting it is. If I was forced to choose between the two then definitely this guy though.
Bro, as a transforner fan, diaclone needs to go mainstream. This is just TOO GOOD!!!!
we're talking 1500$ here, nobody will pay that although it totally worth it
Can we all agree the marketing Takara does for Diaclone goes harder than it needs to and we love every second of it?
It is amazing no doubt! I wish they produced more of it though as it feels like only a couple each year.

Takara should have commissioned an anime as a way to promote it.
Yeah that would have been amazing. It's hard to see exactly what this line is for Takara though, as they seem content to see it as purely a niche domestic exercise.
OMG TAKE MY MONEY
Unfortunately this guy is just too much now. I saw it yesterday in Japan for over 140,000 yen so while the yen is weak atm it's still roughly four times what he was at retail. Of course value is relative but I really hope they do a reprint on this guy so more people can get the chance to appreciate it.
L#601: 👍💥👍
wow these diaclone are killer
a simple look at this toy, you clearly see the quality level goes way beyond transformers
let's be honest mp44 is a fucking joke
Look I don’t know if I’d go that far 😂 MP44’s transformation is ridiculous but I love both modes. This guy is super straight forward fun and the more (compatible) Diaclone you have the more interesting it is. If I was forced to choose between the two then definitely this guy though.
