    I really enjoy your videos. I think a good one would be how you set your gun up before spraying to avoid dry spray. I do this just for a hobby but have had a lot of issues with dry spray. I have everything set up like it says in the manual but it would be nice to see someone walk through it and show everything from the attached air regulator (Have the same one you do in this video) to all the settings on the Iwata. Thanks again and keep up the videos.

    Quick tip I learned from a body work buddy after you wipe the cup put in some acetone lower your pressure to about ten psi and stick a paper towel with acetone and block the product from coming out and it will percolate back into the cup and dump the acetone into a cup and do a final rinse and spray a little to flush the last little bit might take a couple try's but I got down to less then an ounce of acetone and no need for the q tips

      Cool! Thanks for the tip. I'll give that a try tomorrow in the morning. One of the biggest reasons I do these videos is to learn new tricks for me too.

      Branson Cerakote no problem I'm a hobby sprayer and it made cleaning a lot simpler I rarely ever have to pull the gun apart other then maybe wiping the needle then a quick rinse this is rare but when it sits in my gun in the heat that's when I have to do that the coating seems to settle slightly on the needle I've done probably 15 guns by no means a ton but cleaning is always simple lol

      Branson Cerakote any tips for keeping the T MARKS On an ar upper? Be a nice stencil kit don't you think? I've tried cutting them from tape but always seem to shift or be to short also did you get a chance to try my method? Just wanted to see how it worked for you!

    • @BransonCerakote
      @BransonCerakote  7 років тому +3

      We haven't really looked at that, but it shouldn't be hard to make a stencil for it. I'll put that on our to do list.
      I totally spaced it, but I left myself a note on my bench to try it tomorrow.

    John.. don’t think it’s been mentioned and didn’t see it in the video.. do you use the small filter that goes inside the gun between the cup and the body? Been searching and can’t seem to get a good answer on weather or not to keep it in or take it out.. I’m guessing the paper strainer that you first use is sufficient enough that the internal piece isn’t needed? I have a small HF detail gun, it comes with it, just not sure if I should use it? I do have the metal Cerakote cup filter and the paper ones like you’re using.. ??

    • @BransonCerakote
      @BransonCerakote  6 років тому +3

      No. The mesh in those is too fine. Once you've run it through the paper filter, it doesn't need to be strained anymore.

    I use 91% alcohol, it works great and is way cheaper than acetone.

      Branson Cerakote i get it from Sam's Club. It's $1 and change for a 32oz bottle, but a little goes a long way. I prefer using it because it dissolves Cerakote extremely easy and fast, and also it doesn't smell bad as acetone. I also use it as a "solvent" after sandblasting my parts to make sure that surfaces are 100% clean, spraying it on them and then blow it off with high pressure air, more or less 100lbs of air pressure.

      Xylene works very well also.. I normally use acetone for spraying on color then wiping cup to distress.. I ran out of acetone and had a little xylene and tried to continue the distress.. whoops!! Don't do that, but use to clean gun and glass cylinders.. also if you use a cheap gun cleaning kit from Walmart.. use the barrel cleaning rods and wire brush, place in an electric drill and run in gun and cup.. works fantastic!!

    I dont know about cerakote but I know on cars that a qtip would have a high chance leaving lint on the jobs.

    I like the video thank you. Cleaning up is my obviously least favorite part. There is so much stuff to clean. And acetone is a big expense. I was curious if you would show how you clean up absolutely everything that the cerakote touches to the entire cerakote process.. maybe one video on your cleaning everything process when you're spraying multiple coats and then once again another video on a final clean at the end of the day...... and it would be even more helpful if you used red or pink for the video because those obviously are the hardest clean. thank you again for your videos and for your support of the cerakote community.

    • @BransonCerakote
      @BransonCerakote  7 років тому +2

      Honestly, I don't do anything differently. I may run an extra qtip or two at the end of the day, but I use this same procedure every time. The bright colors do seem to take more. I just keep repeating the process until the qtips are clean.
      As far as graduated cylinders, I just flush them with acetone, run a bottle brush around the inside, then wipe the outside down with a paper towel with acetone on it.
      I'm going to do a video on the packing set then next time I have to replace it.
      Acetone does get expensive, however we just factor that into our pricing, and store the squeeze bottles in the fridge when they aren't being used to keep evaporation down.
      Hope that helps.

    One question.......is there a reason you do not use the 3M PPS System cups? I know Cerakote says to stay away from using plastic cups for mixing etc. but we have yet to have any issues or negative effects. It does increase our costs, but that is minimal and it is great for setting aside colors to go back to if needed.

    • @BransonCerakote

      I know guys who use them with no issues. I think I've just gotten used to working a certain way where I don't think it would work for me. It's rare that I end up spraying the same color more than once during the week because of how I plan projects out.

    What brand of that regulator is mounted to your gun & where can I get one ?
    I just ordered the entry level cerakot gun from cerakotes website .
    I have my main regulator hooked up to my compressor after the discharge , do I need the regulator like you have for my cerakote gun ?

      We haven't used them in a long time. We have the Rapidair system in the shop, and have a regulator on the wall in the booth. We adjust the pressure there.

    I have a question little off topic of their video. I’ve set my iwata up just like they recommended on cerakote, air all the way open and 2 parts fluid and 1 part pattern and I’ve got a oval pattern but it is vertical and cerakote always shows theirs horizontal. Am I missing something or is mine right, or do I need to do more adjusting? Thanks for your time.

      Close the fan all the way. Look at the number that is straight up, and go two full turns back to that number. That will give you the fan.
      Volume is different for every color, but you want a nice wet blob on the test paper without it building up to the point of it looking like a scab.

    John is the Iwata worth it? I have the passache and three other cheaper guns.. two are .8mm tips and one 1mm.. I almost find that the 1mm is more beginner friendly.. but think they use a much higher scfm that the passache and iwata

      Also gonna try to attempt a small airbrush again today.. have one with .8mm tip.. I've tried once before with gun metal and it gave me fits on pluggage.. gonna attempt white to do some real flames on a cup then go over with peals in a clear coat to give it that real or "ghost look".. see how that goes.. lol..

      I am pretty partial to the LPH 80. I've tried the cheaper guns, and I just don't think they spray as well, or are as forgiving.
      I've used an airbrush, but have honestly put it away for the last couple of years because there's not really anything I can't do with the Iwata.

    • @BransonCerakote
      @BransonCerakote  5 років тому +2

      Every color. This stuff will set up and eventually ruin your gun if you don't.
      The Iwata LPH80 is the one that everyone uses. Cheap guns give you inconsistent coats, which can lead to having to do projects over. Your base coat has to be a consistent 1-2 mil. The Iwata gives you a larger margin for error.

      We don't do many car/motorcyle parts. There's a younger guy that has a youtube channel where he builds bikes, and cerakotes some of the parts. I can't think of the name of his channel off the top of my head, but he shouldn't be hard to find.
