Thank you! Helped clean up my UI and will no doubt lead to faster workflow. I just made 5 menus quickly accessible by setting the first Wacom stylus button to "y", then adding modifiers inside ZBrush: "y", then "y" + (alt, alt+ctrl, ctrl, and ctrl+shift) so now it's similar to navigating the viewport in Max/Maya/Modo. I appreciate this very much, and thank you again!
Hi Michael, Do you know if it is possible to make the Menu pop up centered like a marking menu in Maya so that I e.g. "swipe" up+left or down+right to select a certain brush (I'm running out of Hotkeys close to the left alt key ;)) OR is there maybe a plugin for gestures? Cheers Christian
off the top of my head I'm not sure; I'm not on wifi right now but somebody smarter than me may have written a custom interface plugin that you're describing, I'm just not aware of it --
there is this ztrol plugin that has been announced a year ago or so but the programmer is not responding unfortunately. polycount.com/discussion/150979/ztrol-a-new-plugin-for-zbrush maybe some day ^^
Hi Michael. How does one go about, after making the menu with it's sub palettes, move a sub palette up to a more desirable position in the line up?? I tried my best but couldn't get it to work for me. I clicked the Ctrl Alt buttons but all it did was give me an option to rename the sub palette. Not exactly what I was after. Thanks!
Richard McWolff Thanks for the email. That's weird you couldn't answer me here. So it seems there is no way, once a menu is created, to drag the sub menus up and down. I wonder if the Pixo team is aware of this strange limitation??
thanks so much for all your great videos. Do you by any chance know of any way/trick/hack to also move a curve adjuster into a custom menu, such as for example a bevel profile for panel loops?
Void lon iXaarii Hrmph I can't seem to do it! Interestingly enough you CAN assign a hotkey to the profile window...the only caveat is you'll have to ctl+alt to assign the hotkey to the bevel window, go into the edgeloop menu and OPEN the bevel window by clicking on it, and now when you use your bevel window hotkey it'll appear where your brush is, with editable curves for you to move around. If that window is collapsed however, the hotkey will bring up the collapsed window, and clicking on it will only open it and disappear lol. So not really a solution, but something...semi interesting I guess. If I see anything I'll post back here!
Hey Michael, I'm wondering, is there a way to move custom sub-palettes around once you have filled them with buttons? The only thing I can manage to do is to rename the sub-palettes by ctrl+alt+clicking...
binding my custom menus now, any idea what the "popup" key binding represents in the zbrushhotkeys.txt file means? ie " [BRUSH:CLAYLINE,4399212] // Popup + L ... not sure what to press in combination with "L".
What it SEEMS like it's referring to is the Brush menu popup ('b' key). For instance, Move Elastic // Popup+E, would be the key combination B (brush menu), M (narrow it down to the Move Elastic brushes), then E (selects the move elastic brush). I assume these are called out specifically so that when ZBrush starts up, these brushes are always assigned to that specific letter when you drill down. You can change them, either through editing the text, or drilling down in the brush menu (for example, hit b, then m, then ctl+alt move elastic and assign another letter to it); I assume doing this will update the startup hotkey accordingly. Anyway, if I had to guess, that's what it's referring to. It seems to hold up with what I have when I start up ZBrush, except interestingly enough, Clay Line (B, C, L according to the startup.txt) goes to my clay brush...so I might be 100% wrong. #AskPixologic on twitter, they'll probably have a better answer for you!
hmm, yeah, i thought the same (that 'popup == "B"'), but using those key combinations did not work out as expected, unless the bound keys represent the third letter as you suggested, in which case it adds up. thanks!
what is it with zbrush menu button snap to grid? When you CTRL+ALT and drag a button somewhere and try to place it. It doesn't snap to the same baseline as the button next to it. You have to move it around to get the button to line up with there neighbors. reason 89 why zbrush UI is the worst.
Hey Michael, do you know how to load a custom menu that say you created on your home computer on your work computer? I tried copying the files in my config folder over but Zbush didn't seem to like that very much and my work license got screwed up. Thanks for all the great videos!
chug_life_ if you copy the files found here: C:\Users\Public\Documents\ZBrushData\ZStartup to the same location on your other computer, it should work, assuming you're using a compatible version of zbrush (there may be a bunch of CustomUserInterface4Rx.cfg files in there). This is how I copied my home custom config to my work config, which it sounds like what you're doing?
Very helpful vid Michael. Just bought your gumroad. How can I move Subpalette? when I click control & alt it will pop up "please enter title" please help.
customanimation4u I did it manually way back in the day on some DCUO marketing renders...render out your turntable or video with all your materials/ background / lighting / render passes, then replace all of the materials on your subtools with the flat shader (white color, zplugin > subtool master > fill will do this quickly), and render the exact same thing out with a white object and a black document background.
HEY; that would work! ..too bad it it cant be done in one render; ive been making the background green but chroma removal requires tweaking; a step id love to avoid. Re-rendering the video with a flat color takes more time and disk space then tweaking chroma at this point. The search for the perfect codec continues
not sure if this is what you're looking for, but preferences menu - Init ZBrush will reset the entire zbrush interface, but it won't change any of your custom menu options
Michael Pavlovich thanks for the reply man, it’s a reset button that I can add into any of my custom panels. I saw it used on a gumroad video where he used it to reset all of his “panel loops” options to default. It looked like an older version of zbrush so it could’ve been removed.
Thank you! Helped clean up my UI and will no doubt lead to faster workflow.

Customizing my 2019 menus, thanks for the memory jog! you still da man!
this makes everything much easier... thanks for sharing
Thank you for introducing your workflow!
Now I can go across various tab without any stress. Thank you :)
thanks for all your videos - really enjoyed your pixo livestream this month
Thank you. Now to sort mess.
Oh man thanks for this Mike :)
I needed this.
very useful! Is there a way to overwrite spacebar into my custom menu?
This was so helpful thank you for doing this.
Very powerful, thanks for share!
Can you move the subtools palette to your custom menu?
Only way I know how is to have an empty SubPallete. Then you can move it around with ctrl-alt-lmb (obviously need to have Enable Customize toggled).
My sub-menus just won't delete for whatever reason. Even when I leave the menu blank. Any ideas?
Omg Ty so much! You're so incredibly informed and helpful! Any plans on doing any zmodeler videos? Thx again!
edgeextrude I did this kind of "quick start" video a while back when it was first released: ua-cam.com/video/KVO2Y-Va0bc/v-deo.html
Excellent, as always :)
Thanks - That was what I was looking for !

Thank you! But how can i delete the useless custom Menu?
Just perfect! Thx a lot.
Any help? I'm not able to drag anything into the left side of the screen, i have enable customize enabled! using 4r7
Oh yeah, I watched that one too! 😄

Yeah, I get the same thing. Try #AskZBrush on twitter, I'd be interested in knowing too!
I will, thanks!

Michael Pavlovich I only copied the files in the ZStartup\Config folder, maybe if I bring the entire ZStartup folder it'll work.

if it's a custom subpalette, you can't move those unfortunately.
Thanks for the quick reply Michael
what an awesome zbrusher you are!
is there a way to render bpr video with alpha? theres nothing on zbrushcentral

thx!
Can someone help me locate the “reset” button. So it resets whatever I have in my panel to default
