  • No one will ever really notice your period issues with PCOS - Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome because that's the invisible part of the condition, what they will see is what can lower your self esteem - the acne and the excess facial or body hair which is known as 'hirsutism'. I've always looked to explore ways to understand and tame both these issues.
I spoke about acne in detail a couple of weeks ago. Which is why today, I'll focus on hirsutism.

A big hug to you. It's so sad that you're unable to get the right treatment for it. The only doctors that really understood me were specialist endometriosis doctors - no one other than them have really taken up my case with the desire to work through a treatment plan that helped my endometriosis and my PCOS. I'm wondering if you have specialists in your city?

Thank you for talking about it❤ the part about self esteem is so true, I used to be such an extrovert and self loving person, but hirsutism hit my self worth profoundly that I literally experience a shift in my personality. I always had an emotionally absent mother, she never bothered to teach me anything related with puberty. When I didn’t know about pcos my doctor put me on a birth control pill at the age of 16 for a whole year( that messed up so bad) I got acne and full body of hair after leaving the pill. My mom even mocked me some times for having facial hair, idk about her intentions, but it did hurt. Everyday I’m trying to care of this matter actively, hirsutism has eaten my confidence for so long to the point I felt and even feel sometimes undesirable. It’s so painful and lonely sometimes. Much love to anyone experiencing this❤

Thank you for this video! You have a very calming way to talk about this topic. For me the most important part is to not be so hard on myself and think I need to be perfect all the time, which clearly is not possible. PCOS made me very insecure about my womanhood, I have sort of more of a male physique anyway with broader shoulders and slim hips and the excess hair growth combined with the inner hormonal testosterone feeling just makes me feel like an abnormality, not woman but not man either. So thank you again for addressing that part, kindness to oneself :)

Hi Alexandria, I'm assuming you've had a blood test to check up on your hormones? A doctor, dietician and an exercise based on your health issues could all help to balance the hormones - that's if you do have a hormonal issue.
I went through a phase where I lost a lot of the hair on my head, but that was because of my medication - I had to do a lot to restore it. I've written a post about it. The link is here:
      allthingsendometriosis.com/reduce-medication-caused-hair-loss/
Also, you may have seen in the video - laser, threading and epilation help me the most - have you tried any of those because shaving removes hair from the surface and since your hair growth is so fast, these other options may work out better.

This has been such an issue for me. I really appreciate your hard work and research for this video. I found out several months ago about my PCOS and I am in my early 30's. To think that I waited for years with 95% of those symptoms and didn't seek help blows my mind today. My testosterone levels were over double the average female levels. I had no clue any of this had a name and everything made sense. I have been on hormone treatment since, which has been a slow journey but proving to be a good one. I usually wax weekly myself, but my doctor is now starting me on a medication that not only helps lower androgen but also helps with hirsutism. I am hoping with the combination of medication and lifestyle change, I can manage my hirsutism better and feel normal about myself.

I have the same issue. Diagnosed with hirsutism. Been dealing with facial hair since puberty! I bought the Braun silk pro 5 ipl around 300-350 price range (there are other ones on the market), and I'm on just my second treatment. I like it because I can do at home and maintain it once I get to a good point. I'm praying for good results. So far, I've done my underarms and it's slowed down growth to where I only shave once a week.
I've done professional laser treatments on my face but that hasn't been permanent and it caused hair growth in extended areas. I stopped because it was just too expensive and the other reasons above. I've also done electrolysis and that didn't work for me as a permanent solution and was expensive, time consuming too. Now, I just continued to pluck which takes a lot of time, ugh. I know ipl isn't permanent but I want to get to your point where I'm not plucking or shaving or whatever every single day.

Something that helped me was a gentle scrub on the areas of the black spot - this would help reduce the in-growth frequency and the face masks I'd apply.
I'll link them here for you
      1. Anti-acne face mask - this helped reduce my scars: ua-cam.com/video/j1hlUtHqmmg/v-deo.html
      2. This helped gently exfoliate and brighten my skin: ua-cam.com/video/-QPvmp1q9Qc/v-deo.html
Because we all have different skin types and reactions, please do consult a dermatologist for your skin type before trying these DIY face packs.

Everyone's face and its reaction to various hair-removing mediums will be different so I can't tell you if your hair will grow back thicker. I'd suggest that you see a dermatologist to know what's best for your skin. I'm assuming that if you have hirsutism from a hormonal imbalance then you're addressing that too?

This epilator works well for me:

It's really specific for the face rather than the larger epilators that don't target the chin so well.

Hello . Did you get rid of a lot of hair just by losing weight before going for laser? So in a woman with hirsutism, the temples and chin are also visible. you know. And is this over before the laser? I say it for the jokes and the chin. Have you turned into a normal woman?
By the way, I agree with mental hirsutism. That was a really good point.

    • @FootprintsNoBoundariesByShruti
      @FootprintsNoBoundariesByShruti  Рік тому

Hi, thank you dropping in your questions...
      1. I did not need to lose weight as I never was over weight.
      2. In my understanding, loss of weight cannot take away the existing hirsutism (but do have this question answered by the relevant doctor).
      3. I don't know what you mean by 'normal' woman. If you mean whether laser fixed my entire hirsutism - I have answered that in the video.
I just wished to add, we feel uncomfortable because we don't like the hirsutism - I'm not saying we should like it. But what I am saying is that we can't also let how we think of it take over our life. Our confidence cannot depend on this.
People with hirsutism have to focus on working with it and understanding why it is happening. And it isn't always because of PCOS.
I did do a video explaining the other reasons for hirsutism... working on it can help the spread of it.
      Here's that video: ua-cam.com/video/ijMWMeqXp_E/v-deo.html

What to do if I have hormone imbalance. How to get treatment. If my hormones will be balanced will my upper lip hair and excessive body hair disappear?

    • @FootprintsNoBoundariesByShruti
      @FootprintsNoBoundariesByShruti  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Anu,
First it's important to know which hormones are imbalanced, then your gynaecologist should advise you on the right medication, get you in touch with someone who can give you the right exercise program based on your weight/body fat/muscle mass etc. Also a good nutritionist is essential - the foods we eat influence our hormones.
For example, when I have high-estrogen foods regularly, I get breast pain. So that tells me I need to watch out and re-look at what I have been eating.
And one last thing, other than medication, exercise, diet - mentally being in a better place by meditating or doing things that relax me also helped my hormones.
For me the hair never disappeared, but the regrowth was thinner and not as regular as it used to be which has made a huge difference to me.
O' I forgot to mention - your doctor also needs to know why the hormonal imbalance is occurring - is there a medical condition that needs treating. All this is very important.
I hope this has helped. Good luck.

Hi Tripti... damnn I know the feeling of delayed periods and you're constantly on edge about it too. And then I give up say to my body and periods, "hey you come whenever you want to and whatever works best for you" - a talk like that usually helps me to calm down mentally and emotionally as I carryon with my stretches, eating the right things and going about my every day life. Otherwise the stress really gets to me.
As for a painless option for a moustache - either a women's razor, or a hair removing cream. But even with laser, it hurts a little in the beginning and that to for a few seconds, but as the hair gets thinner, I didn't experience pain.

I wonder if your hormones are balanced? Has the doctor checked that out because for me, until my hormones didn't balance up, nothing I did had a lasting effect.

A few sessions of laser can help thin the chest hair, otherwise women's razor might work. Have you tried any of this? Can you share what you've tried?

Hi... It's really important you see a gynaecologist for this - or a specialised breast clinic. It's really important to know the cause of your symptoms.

      Hi Smitha,
I'm sure you know this but nobody has a flawless perfect body and that should not be a reason for you to stop living your life. As for marriage, I'm so sure there will be someone out there who will be able to understand and be supportive towards your health issues.
I've always believed that I need to work on being accepting of myself, supporting my health problems first because I need to live with myself for the rest of my life.
Good luck, take care and please be kind to yourself.
