@@DanielPerez-ln5pxthe skar zvx have a really stiff spider. They can take way over rated power. I had a zvx 18 with a smart bass 3k to each coil at 1 ohm. No problem.

@@jermainephillips5179 how is he mistaken? The Smart 5k does 6,000 watts at 2 ohms and basically the same at 1 ohm. The smart 5k would had put out 6k watts at that ohm load. How is that not more power? The Smart 3k and Smart 5k put out power like much larger amplifiers than they are once you factor in impedance rise.

whats the most powerful amp I can get that is 4 gauge power/ground? I knew I should have just asked for 0 gauge on my install but my alternator is only 100A so I thought it'd be overkill.
If you only have a 100amp alt, wouldn't go more than 1k watts. You can't really power much with a 100amp alt, your vehicle uses roughly 60% of the stock alts amp output, so that leaves you with only 40ish amps to use and that's not going to do much even with extra batteries. EDIT: Furthermore 4 gauge wire, if its ofc can only handle 100-125amps max for runs 10-19ft long.
@@Joe_1776 with your maths my car can only generate about 500 watts (40A x 14V) so why recommend a 1000 watt amp? I used for 4 gauge wire precisely because it can handle what my alt puts out (100 amps). So you're saying an extra battery or 2 is useless? I have a 1500 watt amp in there right now that has already blown an 800 rms sub from over excursion not heat so I know it's putting out more than 500 watts. (ultrasonic was turned on).
@@jimjones3287 A 1k amp isn't going to be pulling max amperage 100% of the time, due to impedance rise it will be doing more like 200-500 watts rms which is iine with 40amps to spare from your alt. Batteries require amperage to charge too, it might help a tiny bit with voltage drop, but you'd still be feeding dirty power (clipping), which is likely what you did to that 800 watt rms sub you blew. If that 1500 watt amp was a true 1500 rms amp, it would've been pulling amperage away from what your vehicle needed and causing voltage drop, possible light dimming and that sub would've seen nothing but clipping dirty power. You can clip a sub to death even if you have solid eletrical, if your head unit is sending a clipped signal, or having bass boost on, the gains on your amp to high, or simple as playing music with clipping in it. Assuming you have a stock battery that's roughly 15ah and 40 amps to spare the rms watts you could put out is in the high 400s, giving the amps efficiency is 65-70% anything over that will be 100% dirty power and would kill any sub. You will never pull 100amps from a 100amp alt to your car amp, you would be lucky to pull 50-60 amps to your car amp on bursts with a high risk of burning your alt up, the computer in your vehicle, amp and subs.
@@Joe_1776nice info 👍my amp clips but not 100% lol more like 5% I have a clip indicator so I can visually see if it's clean output or not. I feel the breeze cooling my head from the port (~1.5 cubes ported behind driver seat) on those low notes even when I wire down to 2 ohms (rated 980 wrms at 2 ohms). So I guess moral of the story is stick with my current amp as my car won't be able to push more than what I'm pushing now which is already pretty substantial (my bass on head unit is on -5 which is the lowest it can go....) but yeah no way I'm seeing 1500 or even 1000 watts continuous but maybe dynamically I'm seeing around 1000.
