- Many items in the house and workshop are made of plastic. These plastics stretch and break over time, and most people throw away their broken plastic items. However, since plastic is a material that melts easily, you can easily repair it with plastic welding or soldering. If you have broken plastic items and you want to throw them away, be sure to watch this video called Repair your broken plastics with plastic welding method and learn how to repair your broken, cracked plastics.
Some years ago, I was having a problem repairing some plastic part of a car interior. I just couldn't find a glue that seemed to work as I didn't know for sure what type of plastic was used. I discussed the problem with one of my company's material scientists. His suggestion was to get some scrapings from an unseen area of the part or another part of the same material. He said to then mix it with acetone as acetone is a universal plastic solvent. Using that method, I had the perfect glue, one made from the same plastic as the original part. I have used that method many times with great success.

Далеко не каждый полимер растворяется ацетоном, многие вообще не растворимы, особенно этот, и тем более тот чем он паял сверху, это полиэтилен и он не смешивается с тем материалом на который его припаяли... Отвалится, и шов не проварен... И деталь того не стоила, дешевле новую купить

Берем канцелярскую скрепку и выгибаем ее зигзагом или нарезаем пружину кольцами и вплавляем их по линии трещины. Потом наплавляем любым совместимым пластиком. Качество будет намного выше.
Есть сетка для ремонта бамперов

I've been doing this ever since i learned to solder 25 years ago, it just made sense, no one showed me how and for those zip tie haters it's actually a really good bond with most plastics and is my go too plastic welding material.

Nostalgic. I have been doing this kind of repair since elementary. But I always take note of the material used.. That plastic I think is not of the same composite material with lock tie. They eventually come off. You can also use acetone as a cement to stick together. The acetone melts the two parts to stick together, therefore making a stronger weld. I am telling you this based on experience a child who grew up with only scrapped toys to play with. So repair is really innevitable.

Been doing this since the 70s. Even gas tanks, can, water bottles, oil bottles, plastic appliances, all types of plastic things etc... works great !

I've been repairing cracked motorcycle cowlings like this for 30 yrs. plus. Works great with like colored wire zip ties. I do the underside first then if needed the top side. Just as strong as it was before.

You can also use 2-component epoxy glue, heat cures it very quickly and connects it with the plastic.
You can also melt thin wires or washers or thin nails into the material, which will be more stable than new.
In this way I once repaired a tripod head for the video camera.

Стяжка внизу, как в принципе и сама деталь остаются не прогретыми, а это по любому скажется на качестве соединения стяжки с деталью, или как минимум на времени для совместного их расплавления. Вот именно по этому благодарю за видео. Как то раньше приходилось уже это видео смотреть, но хорошая идея пришла только сейчас. I worked with plastics in 1983-1986…… we used used high temp air which had 2- 3 different shape nozzles according to the shape of the “plastic welding rod” you would feed through the nozzle. The welding rod nozzle would be above the flow of hot air so it heated the joint and heated the underside of the welding rod. If insufficient heat then insufficient weld penetration. 4-6 workers….. so large air pump was pumping air through pipe work along the wall, and would be fed the a hole in the end of the hot air gun. Adjustable heat according to “thickness” of welding rod to be used. 👍
How can we find such an apparatus or what would one be called?

You are referring to speed weld tips (6mm in radius) . 2 of which is triangular and circular. They even made one that spits out hot plastic which is cool.

У меня Отец так делал еще в 80 года. Только он еще брал кусочки проволки, нагревал их и вставлял между двумя половинами. И я думаю это делалось почти сразу как появился пластик. А тут снял пару видео и сразу гений. Цирк да и только.

Шедевр уровня знаний и умений по ремонту пластиковых деталей *ирония*. Интернет подсказывает, что стяжки делают из полиамида. В своё время видов пластика в хозяйстве я знаю много. Это : полиуретан, полиэтилентеревталат, фторопласт, копролон, полиэтилен, акрилонитрил-бутадиен-стирол, поливинилхлорид. Так вот. Между собой пластики различных типов очень плохо спаиваются! Это наглядно видно, когда сабж имитирует нагрузку на деталь. И я подчёркиваю, имитирует. Стоит надавить сильнее её разорвёт по шву. И держится деталь на первичном шве, который плюс минус зафиксировал шов от разрыва при небольших нагрузках. И да работать такое будет, но в местах где на пластиковую деталь не будет нагрузки. Пластик паяется только таким же пластиком. Пристадочные прутки по 20 шт в пачке стоят гроши. У тебя стоит на дне детали которую ты не трогал треугольник под которым две маленьких буквы "PP". Это полипропилен! 3$ за пакет из 20 присадочных прутков полипропилена! И надёжное соединение, при наличии умений паять пластиком. Что вы шляпу какую то заливаете. И название пафосное... Стыд... Испанский стыд.
Пластик заваривают не паяльником а техническим феном ,эта технология была известна еще лет 30-40 назад применялась на производстве разных пластиковых конструкций сварки вентиляции для вытяжки паров кислот и щелочей и т д.
I used to do this but found the strength somewhat questionable. I now use multiple layers of viscous CA and baking soda. The bonding properties of CA are incredibly, and baking soda is an accelerator to quickly solidify the union joint.
ca glue doesn't bond well to polypropylene and doesn't bond to polyethylene, but you can weld both of them and if you inbed some thin staples or thin wire mesh across the crack and then weld over that it will be stronger than it was originally

Crazy Glue and baking soda doesn't fix polypropylene material but, it dose wonder on other plastics.
@@stuartpalmer3404 it's short for Cyanoacrylate and it's pretty much an industrial strength super glue with a spray on activator that makes an instant bond
It does depend on the plastic. I feel like it makes the repair brittle due the the carbon from melting the plastic enough to spread it. Embedding some fiberglass tape or cloth in it might work or metal screen material. This is used for ABS aka Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene.
Done this for years with plastic automotive parts however, I never thought of adding the plastic zip-tie for filler, brilliant! Mental note.

Соединить по шву два куска пластика можно сеткой из кинескопа телевизора и паяльником. Отличный метод, проверено не один десяток раз.

Only thing I'd do different is cut a piece of steel screen/mesh that is about a 1/2 wider than the crack, and place it down, heat it up with solder gun like he did, and kinda work it down into the existing plastic. THEN melt a zip tie over/in the mesh screen. Great video. Next time I do this, I'm going to use aluminum tape on the backside like he did. That was a great idea.

How can I fix broken round and flat strips on a resin wicker chair? I need something that would have an immediate hold (like hot glue) but cannot use hot glue because the glider is stored in freezing temperatures in the winter and I do not know of hot glue that will hold in freezing temps. Epoxy would hold it but as I said I need an immediate bond to some of these areas that have no way to "hold broken areas in place" to further prevent them from breaking off on unraveling. Any ideas?

There is a list of good reasons why this is not used as an industrial method. Yes, you can repair something with it. But you need to know type of plastic, have plastic of the same type at your disposal, have skills and custom soldering tool to avoid burning material inside the seam etc.

The best plastic i found to cut small plastic welding rods from are japanese car fan shrouds, they are about 2mm thick so cut 2mm wide work well with most plastics, i found zip ties go brittle once melted into other plastic. Im impressed with the spoon shaped tip though, i have to use my standard soldering iron and clean it and retin it after doing plastic.

You can hear the peeling sound when you actually press it at the end of the image
The adhesive looks bad and the inside is not welded with this method, so there is no strength and it breaks immediately.

Самое смешное, я таким образом 25 лет назад, когда мне было 10лет, из листов полистирола строил себе игрушечные катера, не знал, что есть такой растворитель бутилацетат, и им можно склеивать.😁 Так что, я занимался сваркой пластика ещё когда это не было мейнстримом.😎

If you don't need something that strong, super glue and baking soda will work well too.
I’d try to fix it using a 3d printing pen. Choose a plastic that’s the same polymer and glue with the pen.
