Singularity is an oddly captivating mix of Half Life and COD

Singularity is one of the last original FPS games Activision published. The developers, Raven Software, would then go on to work on Warzone until the end of time. - Ігри
With this and Blacksite 51, all you've got left is TimeShift and you'll have unlocked every hidden memory I have from middle school.
I'm only missing Area 51 the 2005 videogame that isn't too difficult to appreciate. At a glance, it's a beautiful title with quite a few promising gimmicks and some slick gameplay. Closer inspection reveals a game slightly twisted by a strange collection of misshapen quirks and bizarre shortcomings. What neither perspective will tell you outright, however, is that Area 51 is ultimately a great title worthy of a shooter enthusiast's time and money.
From its chaotic beginning to its clinically insane conclusion, Area 51 provides just enough classic FPS action and technical goodness to merit a great rating and honest recommendation.
[Ed's note: Given the FPS competition on Xbox and IGN's policy to review games based on how they stand within their specific platform's borders, the Area 51 score has been slightly lowered.
This does not imply that Area 51 PS2 is better than Area 51 Xbox. Rather, it simply means that Area 51 on PS2 is better for PS2 gamers and it also happens to be more of an achievement there. Does that make sense? I sure hope so.]
8/10, Great
Quake 4 and FEAR too.
Yesss, TimeShift would be great. Such a great game.
Or maybe not and its a nostalgia speaking, still would enjoy watching shoegames tear it apart.
Probably throw in Painkiller there as well.
@@Zigzf The game plays the clown honk sound effect several times throughout.
It's great.

there's actually a really cool reason the minigun reload is like a tiny pod
basically it's a timey wimey gun that is shooting the same bullet over and over and over again
Aw man that's so cool, thanks for sharing
Wibbly-wobbly, bullety-wullety
bullets within bullets within bullets, and they all fire at once
Time machine gun
i have no time to explain why I have no time to explain
I really enjoyed Singularity. It's a shame Raven wasn't able to fully deliver what they'd planned for this game. But what we got is a solid 8/10 great FPS game. Wish they didn't waste resources on a multiplayer that quickly died.
Damn shame Raven then got relegated to the CoD mines after Singularity didn't meet sales expectations. Miss Soldier of Fortune these days.
your evil twin did a wonderful lets play of the game. Not only is was he attentive to the details that could easily be missed but also talks about the lore, the development of the original game they scrapped and the product we got as well as the theoretical science behind entropy and all that. The channel is worth checking out just for the fact he uploaded the teaser trailers that were made to look like conspiracy uncovery vids produced by MIR-12.
Raven used to do amazing stuff back them... Heretic, Soldier of Fortune 1 and 2... The guys that did Chasm were legends too
Ravens last game before the COD mines. Not perfect but a lot of fun with some cool as hell ideas.
Yea especially that time travel gauntlet thing though i wish they allowed us to turn them into babies as well so that we could stomp them to death that would have been funny i think

"Troubled development" is putting it lightly. Raven spent years working on this and it was shaping up to be one of the most impressive shooters on that gens hardware but while it ran on PC it chugged on their 360 Dev Kit's and the PS3 version couldn't even run half the time. Activision gave them an ultimatum, finish the game in 10 months or scrap it all.
And Damn, Raven delivered! Tons of work was scrapped or cobbled together, hence why the main lead is wearing bulky flight gloves as he was initially a Fighter Pilot in pre-rebuild footage, the subtitles are missing and the blue mutants are wearing inconsistent Russian Combat gear compared to the more overtly soviet getups. So considering the game ended being so damn good after just 8 months of dev time and 2 months of Q&A is just a testament to the crew of Raven themselves. But even they admitted the game we got was only the tip of the iceberg of their actual plans for Singularity.
Hopefully now that Microsoft owns this IP the chance of seeing a sequel on new-gen tech is higher then ever now that Raven *may* potentially be released from the COD Development Gulag.
Was hoping they'd at least add Singularity to Xbox's backwards compatibility system for Xbox One X and Xbox Series X. Same for Quake 4 as they own that too now.
They've got Timeshift on there. Wouldn't mind seeing X-Men Origins Wolverine and that Deadpool game on there too.
@@Gruntvc Fuckin hell I forgot about Timeshift. 10/10 Gameplay with a 1/10 story and no discernible characters. Basically an art-deco HL2 with kickass guns and worse Vehicle Sections. Doubt we'll ever see a Deadpool Game rerelease as it's so damn tied up in Copyright Limbo.
@flippedoutkyrii, I think the Deadpool game was rereleased on PS4 and Xbox One both physical and digitally. But it then got pulled again due to the license expiring.
Sadly, Ravensoft's M rated Wolverine game was not ported to those consoles.
Awe so thats why no subtiles shame
It seems like it would be a good candidate to get a big budget modern reboot.
Some may say this used to be a Borderlands channel.
Some may say this used to be a CoD campaigns channel.
Some may say this is an FPS channel now.
But this will forever be a Bionicle channel, don't forget that.
Naw, this is an Ace Combat channel
Others may even say this used to be a Bloons Tower Defense channel.
This was a Dishonored channel, right?
I thought this was a tantric yoga channel
He bought the account from Sigurd once he retired. Now he works for Belethor, at the general goods store.
Dude, legit shock when I realized there was actually an ending for killing both of them.
Isn’t there another one where you let everything explode ?
Holy yes. First run of it I thought 'k, kill one and be done with it.' I only realized what the few seconds of nothing happening after shooting one of the two was implying.
You can even take your sweet time and Demichev will go for the revolver and kill you (and Barisov) although that ending doesn't give a cutscene.
When I was a kid, my older cousin came to visit, and showed me this game as a present. I played this sucker for hours, replay the campaign over at least a dozens times, even played the multiplayer.
Needless to say, I loved this game, flaws and all. Gladly to see others giving it a chance. Thanks for giving it a try.
Older cousins and video games make what game/games they were 20 times better somehow- I swear
Ah Singularity was one of the better grey/ brown fps games from late 2000s.
You mean early 2010's
@@morkgin2459 is that when it came out? Could've said it was from 2007-2009 and I'd believe it
@@Jormyyy I think 2000's shooter refer to 1998 to 2006. Because from 2007, grey shooters were common
@@morkgin2459 ahhh I see, thanks for the clarification
@@Jormyyy I mean look at the style of 2000' shooters. Being brown, having a linear but not feeling too restrictive levels, having lot of weapons, not being super old school but not cod either, health packs for healing.
One of my favorite things is when American game/movie studios making stuff with Russia in it clearly don't know anything about the Russian alphabet, so they replace letters in English with letters from the cyrillic alphabet and you end up with things like "Get to the Yadio Toweyu" or "Maiee Meeeu"

I was REALLY into this game's marketing campaign. It really felt like a conspiracy rabbit hole. But it was crazy spooky too.
MiR-12. That's the name of the marketing campaign. It was good. I thought it was going to be the next BioShock. Sad to see it turn out like this. But I'll always have the Marketing videos.
"Sad to see it turn out like this" Why? People either really liked this game and many other even love it.. for me personally, it's definitely in the TOP3 FPS games released in the Xbox360/PS3 era.. it's like a fun hybrid between Half-Life 2, BioShock and Metro 2033 - basically all games that I dearly love.. even though Singularity isn't as high budget as those games were, it's still a great FPS from start to the end
@@wes8723 Exactly! It's some of the best shooters I've played. I think people were getting tired of the Half life inspired shooters that were coming out in abundance during that era so people just brushed this game off. For me? I will never get tired of Half life inspired shooters and I hope we get more of them in the coming future like the new game Industria which would whole heartedly recommend.
@@wes8723 It's sad because Raven wanted to give us so much more. But I think details like all your actions in the past environment directly changing the present environment were too much for consoles to handle at the time. It's sobering to think this spectacular game was rushed using the resources they recycled from the original development.
You know that time mechanic is pretty sick. Cooler than how it was done in Ratchet & Clank: A Crack In Time for me.
Steering the bullet definitely inspired from that movie where they curved the bullet and pretty neat
Titan fall 2 has a good time mechanic area also
oh you mean JFK?
I would definitely recommend this game to anyone looking for a decent FPS game
This is actually such a good obscure game
I miss this time, when shooters made bizzare mechanics that they forced you to use way too much
I like your logo are you ready for the Super Bowl
@MrDjBigZ very good point, it's rare these days a shooter brings something new to the table
RAVEN!
BLESSED BE THEIR NAME
MAY THEY BE DELIVERED FROM THE CoD MINES
I agree, but I think most of the old talent who made their best games are long gone today.
I think that Prodeous FPS game on Steam was made by ex Raven devs.
Wouldn't mind a new M rated Soldier of Fortune game or spiritual successor to it.
Damn, this channel excels in games that I most remember from game informer covers
This game was supposed to be Raven's answer to Bioshock, and it ended up being their swan song before Activision sent them to work in the CoD Mines.
Oh hey, Singularity
first game that introduced me to time travel mechanics, pretty fun
If you loved the remote controlled Sniper Rifle here, you’ll love Bulletstorm. Play that next.
Underrated game from 2010 especially when you consider the original game in development got canceled and they turned around and used what they already had to make this.
I really loved this game when it released, it kinda helps if you make any attempt to listen to the story instead of yolo speedrunning it like it's generic cod current year.
Yeah, but then the video wouldn't be as funny. Lol.
I enjoyed the game more than I expected to. The story was aight.
I’ve had this game on the back burner for like 4 years, perhaps I should finally give it a try.
It's a fun solid game you definitely should
Seeing jokes on stream as you work them out and then seeing the tightened up perfected punchline in the videos. Oboes is using some kind of laugh hack software to farm sensible chuckles from his audience and NO one can stop him.
Raven Software got a fate worse than death
I actually liked this game enough to play through the campaign 3 times.
Good old days.
I was actually looking at this game again recently.
Thank you for the fillet fish song reference. This use to ring in my head at extremely random points in my life on a semi consistent basis for years. Thank you.
LOVE Singularity!
This and Metro 2033 turned me on to atmospheric games.
Unique power set and fun/creative puzzles.
Thank you man, i really wanted to see a video of you playing this game, great video
Your Humor is right up my alley with your lazely hidden disdain for everything that was, is and will be.
This was one of my favorite games from this era, I'm really glad you got to experience it's glory
One of my absolute favorite liner shooters. Good puzzles decent combat and a good story, Great way to spend a Friday afternoon
HOW COULD I MISS THIS STREAM
I love Singularity, it's such a gem!
man your brand of humor is just *chef's kiss* for me
I really hope someone else got that ABBA joke because that made my day.
Damn, I remember how pissed I was during the ending. What a blast from the past. Great video!
This game was a great fun game still play it every now and then would've loved a sequel and the Sniper rifle that bullets you can control just made it all the more fun with the tmd abilities
Thanks man. When I get the chance I will play through Singularity again. It sits in my steam library in my all time favs.
I absolutely LOVED this game, been wishing it was backwards compatible for so long now
Appearantely they'll be adding some Activision titles to backwards compatibility
I love how effortless your jokes are
(unsure if these are scripted, but I've watched a lot of ur streams, and nothing there is scripted- obviously)
This game was the last made in a time of the powered FPS-player games. I loved them and miss them.
Oboe on a Sunday before the big game is the only way to start your day
ok i really liked the combat devolved joke, love you
Nice perfect timing
I loved this game when I was younger! It was too bad it wasn't made backwards compatible on new systems, I own it on 360.
I didn't know I needed to hear the Filet-O-Fish song today, thank you for that. I am complete.
That falo fish reference dug up a deep memory i haven't thought of in ages
The alphabet/ABBA multilayered joke is so underrated!! Great job!
did not expect to see this game again
"Ice to meet ya!" I love this goddamn channel.
this is genuinely one of the most memorable games ive ever played. had a lotta fun with it. cool to see it on the channel
solid 8/10.
in the multiplayer, you could play as the monsters -- any except for minibosses. the balance wasn't perfect, but reverts (the more advanced zombies) could heal allies and hurt enemies by projectile vomiting on them, so it was a real 10/10 experience
I remember playing through "Effect and Cause" in Titanfall 2 thinking that it reminded me of Singularity. It really hit me when you got the time device on your wrist, I even laughed a bit
Very interesting story. Played it awhile ago. If your looking for a decent story, in an area the feel's like it inspired the time travel level in Titanfall 2, try it.
i usually watch your videos during my break between mcdonalds shifts, and i'm glad to see you also hate the filet o fish as much as i hate having to make them
Thank you for the Filet of Fish song. We have one of those wall mounted fish that sings that song.
with that thumbnail I thought we'd be getting another BL2 tierlist at first
this game was awesome, and it doesn't get the rep it deserves
'The power of the sun in the palm of my hand.'
I do remember that fish jingle. So many memories.
To this day, it's one of my favorite "sleeper" games that no one seems to know about.
Honestly, I loved this game, replayed it more then 10 times back in the day, for me at least this is a true hidden gem, gunplay felt right, ambience was nice and the whole paradox time travel thing just appealed to me
Basically just call of duty zombies and normal call of duty
I'll be honest, Ive watched a dozen or so of Oboe's videos over the last few days, but I didnt subscribe until that bell 🤣
Time travel and communisim mix together like a lovely little poo cocktail
1:31 I love the way you say Zakhaev name
This game is more similar to the metro series than cod. Many parts of this game genuinely scary.
“Games that kill you when you get in water” hell let loose does that except you just slowly drown living with your failure
I remember this game being a banger I totally forgot about it until I saw the video I'm back for that good content
I remember playing this game when it came out. It was actually really fun
I really liked this game way back when. Miss this era of mid budget "B tier" games bc there was some fun to be had with some of em
One of my favorite games ever
Singularity wouldve definitely took off just dropped at a bad time fr
Filet o fish is one of their best items in the menu
Oboeshoes: come for the jokes, stay for the obscure fast food references!
Dude I loved this game
The filet o fish reference at the end. Top tier comedy right there
With this gameplay mechanics of TMD, this would be a fancy game in VR.
8:00 I thought I was the only one that knew about that commercial. It was a fever dream
I loved that ABBA reference
Singularity is one of the few noughties FPS games that doesn't have a sponsorship with a fast food chain restaurant
Singularly was and still is great, damn
10/10 for the fish at the end
This is the most underrated game ever, inn NK played this through like 5 times
Loved this game as well as Wolfenstein 2009, also from Raven!
Dude are you ready for the Super Bowl sure I am let me know everyone where you guys are doing for Super Bowl
This game is amazing for its time.
They need to turn this into a show or movie
If a family member keep ordering the fillet-o-fish at Mcd, should they be disowned?
Singularity was one of my favorite games to play on my 360 back in the day. The TMG was absolute goat of a mcguffin and I had so much fun fuckin around with it. I wish more (AAA) games had some unique gimmicky mcguffin tools like this.
I remember this game, was a lot of fun
The nostalgia 💓❤💕
Waiting for metro 2033 or crysis so oboe finally enjoys a game
i have this game on my ps3, i was younger so i remember it being much detailed
I kind of hope this video brings more attention to the game. Some guys in the Steam Discussions have been trying to get a multiplayer match going for several years now, but there's never enough people interested.
I remember years ago long after the multiplayer died out, there was a group on Xbox 360 keeping the multiplayer alive as an event each week/month. They were really dedicated. Wonder if they're still doing it.
Online for this game was elite
Loved the palpatine laugh
i didn´t knew about that alternate ending
i loved this game cool ending to me
