Siempre Es Un Deleite Escuchar a este Crack! 'Patrick Topping'. El sabe El Verdadero Significado del #TechHouse. Nunca Decepciona. Alta Fiesta Con Este Tío. Más Musica Así en Los Clubes Por Favor.! @2018
holy fuck i've never before managed to listen to a single set by Patrick Topping but he's mixing well, and spinning a lot of tracks that I myself would use on an open air party with a crowd like this.. all in all nice set:)
Ok, at the risk of sounding like an old man something really struck me about this set and also a trend in dance music at the moment in general. The set bounced along nicely but it missed one hugely, vital, spine tingling ingredient - the journey. It neither started anywhere or finished anywhere. It just ‘was’. This isn’t a criticism of PT, he’s brilliant. It’s simply a common theme now in dance music. Sets are missing the journey; that magical trip DJs take you on - out of your body, out of your mind, out of this world. Please bring that back DJs. Create a journey again, not just a set.
Not from today's DJs because it's not DJing that's the issue - it's down to music production. If you go back 10 years, 15 years and 20 years what was happening at these times is producers weren't necessarily tailoring their productions to genres. Genres were still being discovered. The earlier you go back the less genres there were and the less defined those genres were so tracks sounded markedly different. DJs were able to put together more varied sets. What's happening now is that genres have been very clearly defined so its homogenising the music - tech house tracks have a specific identifiable sound often using one of a only a few styles of bassline/drum pattern, house, techno and trance etc also each have their own. There's a lot less genre blending in tracks (think about an act like Leftfield or Underworld at the early point in dance music history whose tracks like Dark and Long, Born Slippy, Rez etc are impossible to categorise). Because genres have been so heavily refined and defined it's harder for DJs to create variety and progression in sets. Also, because of technology and syncing DJs aren't varying the pitch in sets too much, but sets used to start slower and build more. This naturally drove the energy of the crowd. It's why if you compare recordings from say the 90s and now, the crowds are noticeably different. There's less clapping, chanting, shouting, intensity now. The music isn't hitting and triggering people's emotion like it did. A third point here is key locking. Moving through keys in a set (harmonic mixing) is essential for creating a journey as it toys with the crowd's emotions but again DJs are using key lock more to keep the set in the same key which dampens the intensity of the music. It's a long winded way of answering your question but I'm not too sure who's really pushing the boat anymore in that style - maybe Kollectiv Turmstrasse, Magdalena, Andrea Oliva, Solomun. Oakenfold was the master 20 years ago and Sasha and Digweed. Robert Owens used to do it in the house genre.
I got what you are talking about,i really do,i live in brazil and right now there are basicly 3 tipes of EDM (not the comercial edm) partys - Deep house, Progressive Trance and Techno - the intresting bit is that in every of these partys the djs just play the respective genre of the party , looks like they are even afraid of playing different witch often make their sets boring and repetitive.Gonna take a look at these names you gave me.tnx!
no one cares about this kinda thing apart from some DJs themselves. crowds dont really care , none of my friends would come after a rave and say ''damn i wasnt put upon a journey in that set'' , people are dancing amd having a good time thats all that matters ..
