    Clark leads Diana Taurasi in every statistical category (yes, TOs, but also ppg, assists per game, steals, boards). DT has no business taking up a roster spot. Not a single player on the Olympic roster under 26. They talk experience, but how are the young, exciting players supposed to GET experience if you keep giving all the spots to vets who've been there multiple times...

    • @thezachari
      @thezachari 17 днів тому +3

      DT is literally matching her within 1 stat point in almost every single category at 42 with FAR lower turnover numbers, vet experience, and she hasn't been playing ball nonstop since November of last year with zero breaks. I agree with the latter point about age, but the men's team is following the same strategy teamwise (bring the vets to dust players on their last run to make up for the FIBA debacle). I see all of the big names from the last two years in college (Clark, Reese, Buekers, etc) anchoring the next few Olympics honestly.

      I saw an interview with Turasi who got to play as a rookie - was positively glowing when she spoke of the leadership of the veterans, passing on the wonderful lessons they had learned etc…then they choose not to have that same leadership. Turasi is 42, and that dude Griner is an unpatriotic felon.

  • @a00141799
    @a00141799 18 днів тому +1

    Yes the title is quite misleading. Funny I can see both sides of the argument for and against everyone continuing to make Caitlin the face of the WNBA and USA women's basketball. The comparison to Wemby is also misleading because the NBA is not promoting him as some savior for the league and promoting him over the other established veteran stars. Because if they did, you would see jealousy and envy from LeBron, KD and company too!! Ego is a necessary thing among competitive athletes. Caitlin hasn't proven herself on the professional level yet, so veterans and legends of women's basketball are not anointing her as their messiah. On the other hand, her popularity and fanbase has moved the needle more financially and exposure wise than anyone prior to her and they all should put aside their petty jealousy to capitalize on this rare moment of momentum. In the long run, it will benefit them all. We live in a new age where super stardom can be achieved in moment. And people will immediately began compare new young stars to veteran legends that have stood the test of time. Just think if we were comparing brilliant and successful college QB's to Brady, Montana, Elway as rookies and before they've won anything. We'd be saying whoa! on all of that talk until they've done something on this level. Success in college doesn't always translate to the pros. I live near Seattle and watched Kelsey Plum break the single season scoring record as a senior in the 2016-17 season for the Univ of Washington. Scoring a mind blowing 1,109 points. She was one of the most prolific scorers the NCAA women's game has ever seen. She was the number #1 pick in the WNBA's 2017 draft. So far she has had a very good professional career but she didn't come in and set the league on fire and Caitlin probably won't either. Just because the media and fans make them a star doesn't mean that the other experienced players that they have to compete against every night are going to be awed by them and show them and mercy. When Tony Kukoc came into the NBA as a heralded European player, the NBA players were keen to show him that he had to prove himself here in this league. Even his team mates treated him with scorn and were jealous of the attention he was getting.

    She wasn’t able to attend Team USA practices because she was actively participating in the NCAA Tournament. She literally had barely two weeks off between her final college game, getting drafted and starting her professional career.

    She’s not the first rookie that didn’t make an Olympics team.

When USA Today writes an article like this: "It matters that the faces of the future' of women's college basketball are Black" it's hard to deny there is overt racism happening here. The title is wrong. She did not get kicked off of team USA. She didnt make the team USA roster. She is a good basketball player, but she has not been training with the Team USA for the last three years like everyone else has that did make the team. Not to mention the USA womens team have been dominating basketball since 1996. Meaning they have won gold every single time. Maybe if she trains with the team and tryout she can make the team in the next Olympics. Nobody is jealous of her and she is not entitled to a roster spot. Her numbers in the league are not that great. Her team is not that great, so im confused on why people think she should just be handed everything. She is not in college anymore. She has to earn a spot just like everyone else. If you are upset at Caitlan Clark by not making the team but you are not equally upset at the Fact Angel Reese didnt make the team than that says everything about you. Angel Reese is leading all rookies in every stat category this year and didnt make the team. Alot of people want Caitlan on the team because of her popularity, so just say that instead of saying she was done wrong.

    There where three major reasons that Clark wasn't selected for the US National Team. 1) She hasn't earned it. She's played 13 games in her pro career. Picking her over players that have shown a high level of play over hundreds of games would be ridiculous. Clark has yet to show she can sustain a high level of play over the course of years. 2) She hasn't shown she's ready to excel under the high pressure of international play while playing a team oriented game. Clark excelled in college by being ball dominant, playing lots of minutes, and taking a large amount of shots. In a team oriented game she'll have to show a high efficiency shooting game while playing far less minutes. How will she respond to sitting on the bench for 30-35 minutes, then having to come in and perform for only 5-10 minutes? She also hasn't shown she can play an effective game off the ball, and on a team of All-Stars that's what she'd have to do. 3) She's yet to show she can play high level defense, and international play requires each player to play tight defense on their mark. Maybe the next Olympics for her. Not this one.

    Ultimately the media and untrue fans of WNBA basketball needs to tone it down. They are a huge part of the problem.
    I remember when Lebron first got into the league. Of course he had huge hype on him just like Caitlyn but the difference is the media made sure not to overgas him. When you had players like Kobe, Tim Duncan, Kevin Garnett, Allen Iverson, Shaq, Dirk Nowitski etc all in their relative primes, the media sprinkled in rookie players like Bron, Carmelo Anthony, and D-Wade.
    Your league (in teams sports) is only as quality as the TEAMS playing, not the players. Gassing one player is does not change your league, improving the overall infrastructure of your league does that, which is what many of the other girls have been saying for YEARS.

    • @user-wr9ej6xe4j

It's not wrong to hype up talented players, even if the only reason is a low bar like trying to get people tp watch the sport, which the WNBA desperately needs
