The piano music part to distract was smart! I wonder if piggys do have a favorite music genre. Mine seem to love (low volume) bass a lot when I play, they even come to the edge of their enclosure
Aww bless nacho I do have a long haired Guinea he is a Peruvian breed called Rufus and just like nacho he hates been cut luckily for me I have a helper my mum the biggest problem is he dose not know how to sit still and am sure he knows what’s going to happen. Brushing him he not keen but dose not hate it. Where my other Guinea pig he short haired he loves a brush even falls a sleep on my lap he like Lyra loves blankets lovely to see her and Pedro great video
This was great to see - sensible advice for caring for long haired piggies. I have 2 long haired girls and I agreed to take them before I knew they were long haired (they were at the rescue I volunteer at). I do the same, keep the hair round their bums short all year round, and I keep the rest of it short during the summer months. The only thing to remember if you have girls, is to be careful of their nip nops when trimming! Other than that, I have very happy piggies 😊
We have followed your advice on cutting the hair around the bottom area and back legs. It's my sons guinea pig, so he held Chess very carefully and I was the hairdresser. It worked out really well and Chess was very calm. Thank you for the tips and advice. ❤
Thank you very much for this video. At present, I have 3 short haired piggies and the Video reminded me of my beloved long haired Ines, I used to have 😢 At that time, I was quite unexperienced and very nervous that I might hurt them with the scissors while trinming their hair. So, I bought a pair of scissors that are round at the top - really the kind you also find in first-aid kits. I really recommend using this kind of scissors. You can never be sure, your little friend does not make a sudden and quick move. With those „first-aid-scissors“ you can really prevent painful accidents.
Awwwww, thank you for making this video, I’ve been thinking about getting a neutered long haired boar to be with my two sows, so this was very helpful :)
This video is alot of help. I have had my pigs for a year now, one is a Peruvian and I've always been abit lost in how regularly I need to bathe or brush her hair. She jumps around even if I barely touch or attempt to cut her hair so I'm glad it's not just my pig that hates it. I'm happy to have more ways to try and groom her so it's less stressful 😊
@@SqueakDreams So! I just tried the music, I played a relaxing piano playlist and omg the difference was like day & night! My piggies just let me get on with it and it took about 5 minutes rather than a stressful 30 minutes. I am so thankful for your video. My piggies are so happy and usually they hide for a while after grooming but this time they were running around and allowing me to stroke them! ❤️ They are very happy! I'm so glad it's a less stressful experience for them 🖤 If anyone struggles please try playing music! It definitely is magic X
My 3 girls are all long wild haired! I think they must be part Peruvian. It gets super long! I have given them a full bath maybe once or twice as their skin was flakey, but a bum bath works so well. Thanks for the tips, I definitely do not take my girls hairs short enough - I worry about catching their skin and legs. I’ve tried clippers and scissors. You’ve inspired me to try go shorter with them as they do tangle and get matted sometimes x
I had a long haired piggy when I was a child and I shudder when I think about how we had to cut lumps of knotted hair out! Nacho is a joy and I love the funny comments.
Because of you and Little Adventures, I really like and want a long-haired guinea pig one day. I know they take alot of care, but I think it would help me bond with them, and I get to spoil them after
Can I just say a massive THANK-YOU for your advice about the piano music. We have a merino guinea pig who usually cannot stand any form of hair cutting. I tried the piano music and it worked a treat! We now have a very smart Neil running around his cage. Can’t thank you enough!!
I also have a merino. Funny thing is, she hated getting trimmed but is actually pretty fine with nail cutting, though she can suddenly pop her foot under her where we cant see her 😅
As a breeder and shower of purebred Peruvian and alpaca guinea pigs... I can assure you that if the wrappers are in any way uncomfortable for the guinea pig to live with, they will chew them out! Showers of the longhair breeds make very sure that the Guinea pig is not uncomfortable. we are not "cruel" for making them live that way. After their show career ends, we snip them back to floor length and keep it that way.
My main point was to emphasis that it would be a lot of effort for us normal guinea pig owners to keep them like it, and to stress the importance of keeping the hair short when they are not show animals ☺️
Thanks for making this helpful video! I have had 2 sheba mini yaks and now i have a texel. I usually cut the butt fur how Saskia does it on LA guinea pig rescue videos. She kind of holds the pig like a (American) football with the butt facing out and the legs hanging over her hand and cuts the butt fur. She uses clippers but I use these cat scissors I got at the pet store. I found I rarely needed to bath my long hair pigs as long as I kept the butt fur trimmed and brushed their fur regularly :).
This video is great, I have a a texel, a Coronet, 2 lunkyaras and a sheltie and a mix of a crested and possibly Coronet, it's hard to keep on top of it but it's so worth it ❤
Thank you. I have two very long hair boys who definitely need a bum trim. I’ve been cutting out matted lumps as and when but this method seems much better. Thank you.
My Wilbur is a Peruvian cross. When I first got them, bit obsessed with grooming - the boys were not impressed! I groom about twice a week now. I find using my fingers to 'groom' them, tease any would be knots out. I shampoo & condition about every three months, really helps with knots. Trim legs, bum & bit of tummy about every month and sides little bit less. Clean cages help lots of course. In the future, would take on another long haired piggie no problem!💕
i just trimmed our piggies hair and nails today . we have a abyssinian {oskar] and a silkie [angus], we bath their bums and trim the bum area and sides , it grows so quick , love your vlogs x
Great video!! Hugs to little Nacho! I have my senior senior piggies who need bum baths every few weeks as they have some health issues along with being old. I have been giving them some Loxicam for the aches of old age, but with less mobility comes more cleaning needs. My one girl has longer then normal american breed fur and has fuzzy ears. She is not a long hair though she does have a longer strip of fur on her rump, almost like a frill or skirt. Really looks cute when she is laying around. Great for me is it naturally stops short of the area in need of trimming.
One of my piggies has thick long curly hair all over. In summer i shave him short, he looks a bit more like a teddy then. In winter just lenght upkeep. I usually shave him ever 2/3 months. He is better with a clipper than scissors.😊
I have a texel, his hair is so incredibly thick! He doesn’t love brushing a lot but we manage it most of the time. I have got him used to the sound of clippers which makes bum trims easy 😅
Thanks for this video. I also have a long hair guinea pig and I have been trimming her back side around her bottom and I also bought a wide tooth comb for her. But she hates to be combed and I was thinking she was the only guinea pig that did not like to be groomed. Her name is Babydoll she a long haired peruvian guinea pig, her hair is snow white. 🥰 I also give her bangs a little trim too.
@@SqueakDreams Thanks she is very pretty and very spoiled too 🥰 She also has three other pretty girls that are living with her as well. I have three C&C cages put together to form a "L" shape that they all live it. Right before I watched your video, I just got done with a little cuddle time with my four little fur babies 🥰 and Babydoll had a little trim. along with a grooming. I was going to do a search to see why she hated being combed and that's when I seen your video. I am very gentle while I comb her hair and the only part that will get tangles is her bottom part, so I always try to keep her trimmed back there. I really enjoy watching all of your videos, I find them to be very helpful. 🙂
Thank you so much, I have a long haird, and a short haired piggie. I always cut his hair, but after watching your video I am not cutting it short enough as it is always tangled again within a few days!
That’s such a great idea. I have one girl who is long hair, and she’s pretty good with her bum, doesn’t need to be done too much. My other long hair girl gets really bad wee bum and matting, I might have to attempt it like this, I gave her a really bad hair cut all around, and it still want enough.
I have a very curly long haired female called Dolly who is a bit of a mixed breed but nevertheless her coat needs a trim around the bottom and the pieces that fall over her face too. She will tolerate being brushed with a soft babies hairbrush as will Daisy who is an abysinian.
It also helps their hair to be outside in the grass on nice dry days. Their hair gets smoother and more manageable :) Would have been interesting to see nacho with all his hair trimmed ^^
Thank you Sarah that was great to watch, I have 2 boys with long hair, one Peruvian and one Alpaca, Stormy ❤️ my Alpaca loves to be combed, not Axel ❤ my Peruvian, Stormy is due for a cut he’s a sqirmer, won’t sit still lol, I shall try your tips see how I go..again thank you 🙏 ❤❤
Great video!!! We do not have any long haired piggies in the family, but we cracked up with the piano music tip! Perhaps we can use that when doing nail trims! Thanks again for all of the tips :)
Aww, I'm early! I actually don't have a long haired piggy (both of my boys are short/medium haired), but I couldn't pass up an excuse to watch clips of your adorable Nacho, Roxy, Phoebe, and Callie 🥰 (apologies if I spelled any of their names wrong!) You're one of my favorite guinea pigs UA-camrs, keep up the good work 💗
Great vid! Thanks for the tips! I have four piggies, two of which are long haired. I do trim them but they are squirmy worms, so I'll try the technique you've used here to hold them and play piano music...fingers and toes crossed!
Great video…. You always have such good tips. I am going to try the music when brushing out mine. Also I never thought of a different room. I have three long haired piggies and one of them is VERY vocal when I am brushing her like someone is killing her. It sounds awful…. I am always worried about cutting the back legs when trying to get close so it makes me nervous. So thanks for the tips!!!
Hi we have two lunykara guinea pigs and I give them a shave about April time then another in the summer then just bottom trims over the winter. They have got used to the shaver now.
I’d love to have a long haired piggie, but I don’t know if I would be able to keep up with the hair trims! They’re so beautiful though, and Nacho is such a handsome boy! ☺️💕
I had a Peruvian guinea pig name Tosia. I cut her all hair on average every two months. Tosia always sat calmly during the cutting and then she was very happy, running and jumping. She definitely preferred short hair. I also had another Peruvian Malwinka and Coronet Balbinka. I only cut the back hair of these two because they both hated getting cut. 😀
Thanks you for this video! Very usefull. We’ve recently adopted twee coronet Guinea pigs. They are still young now so their hair is not very long, but that will change soon. I hope they are okay with being brushed and get their hair cut. Right now they are still so jumpy, so I think I will definetely get some help holding them. 🙈
1:31 I do worship you piggy!!! And I worship nacho ALL HAIL LONG HAIR PIGGIES 🥰😍 also heyyyy how have you been squeak dreams I'm early today love this video Ives been wanting and wishing for a long furred piggie this will be helpful when I get onw
you're such an amazing guinea pig owner! i appreciate everything you do for your piggies. im actually thinking of purchasing myself 2 guinea pigs! random question: how much pellets do you feed your pigs? i heard it was 1/4 for both piggies but im not quite sure. anyways, thank you for treating them so well! 💋
I have a skinny pig and just recently rescued two new guinea pigs. They have fur but it is short. I have only had skinny pigs so I was surprised at how much the furry potatoes shed 😂
I have 2 coronets I butt cut every month bought some clippers off Amazon quiet and gentle designed for babies and small children don't harm or cut the skin
They are called fravison baby hair clipper's I've used on all 4 of my boys even the abbis need a little poop in the fur removing no issues with any of my boys
i made the mistake of getting 3 long haired piggies at once after not owning any animals for a bit. it's a steep learning curve. i think i might get some clippers and try them out because scissor-trimming three smelly butts back to back takes all day!!
Really interesting! So you don't have to do any trimming around the vent? And there's no danger of cutting the skin just with reasonable caution? I have a senior bunny I've been doing sanitary grooming on for years. He isn't long coated, he just has really fine fur that catches his messy poops. His arthritis means he can't wash himself anymore. The fine fur is also prone to matting. I've had a couple conversations with my vet about it and he's pretty strongly against trimming with scissors because they get a lot of cut wounds in that way. And my bunny has very loose, thin skin so it would be very easy to cut him accidentally or catch his skin with trimmers. But I can't stand leaving stinky messes on his belly so I'm trying putting the fur below the mess thru a flea comb and trimming above the comb. His skin can't fit in the comb so it seems very safe. I was really curious how you were going to deal with the fur in the most sensitive areas... Oh and my hair is rather similar to Nacho's and I don't comb it either! Just finger comb with conditioner 😂 Gotta save those curls 💖
We have over 6 Long haired Piggies (2 Lunkyara, 1 Coronet, 1 Sheltie, 1 Swiss, 1 Texel), we show my piggies especially the long hair ones but most of them are shown in the pet sections so we can clip them/shorten the hair 😆
My long haired guinea pig, Nutmeg, has some matted fir on her bum and I am going to comb them out soon. It has happened before because I forgot to cut the hair around her bum😢
If it's already matted, it's best to carefully snip that hair away, trying to comb it might be painful. Don't feel too bad though, it happens and I hope this video has helped! 😊
I have 12+ pets, 4cats, 2 rats 2 dwarf hamsters 2 ferrets 1 rabbit and 1 chinchillaand lots of fish, soon I may get guinie pig(s), the ferrets and hamsters the fish and most likely not the rabbit, chinchilla and rats will never meet, but what about the others? Will/could they like idk scare them to death!? Could the cats somehow get to them? My cats are really smart and luckily 1 of my cats has bonded with my rabbit and have given up with the rats (but we dint let them meet ofc except thru the safe bars of the rats big cage), I’m probably going to have a cvc or whatever it’s called cage for the piggies, my house has many broken doors that don’t close and most entrances are doorways (no doors) so they’ll be in the same room, the thing is that I sit where the piggies cage is but it’s hard to see past there, any help/advice is appreciated! Also just things that will help new owners
Awww they don't like the sounds of clippers or scissors really... Merry is short haired but it's long over his bottom area which we call his 'curtain' which gets trimmed when it starts to get too long, he is quite a clean boy though so we haven't had any trouble with it really 😁😁
Hi Sarah! I have two little girls and we are thinking about getting a neutered boy to join us! He is a Peruvian and we have reserved him. The only problem is that we are worried about trimming his bottom. I have a daughter who loves her girls! Any tips or advice would be appreciated!
I’ve just recently brought 2 baby boars, absolutely over the moon with them both! However if I was to want more piggies is this possible? I keep reading about it and people are saying you can’t so I’m so confused lol!
Hello my guinea pig gave birth a five days ago after bith she didn't eating or drinking and after 5 days she died and her baby also died, i want to know causes?? Her baby skin was getting blue and after some hour they died why was their body blue??
I'm sorry for your loss. It's not possible to know what happened unless you are able to get an autopsy done or had contacted a vet to try help them before they passed away. It could have been an infection, but there are many possible complications with pregnancy and birth, breeding guinea pigs should be avoided at all costs. Blue skin is a sign of the body and heart shutting down 😞. Rest in peace little ones ❤️
this was my baby Rocky, sadly he has passed away but it was such a crazy boy when i tried to trim his hair. It was always stressfull because i really didnt know what i was doing and he hadnt been feeling well for a while before this trim. He figured out if he climbed up my chest i would stop trimming such a butthead lol. Yes the video is on a different youtube page for the piggies themselves but i dont stream or post very much at all ua-cam.com/video/mWWmhOiQGIQ/v-deo.html
Struggling with this we have a long haired girl who's around 10months old, we pick them up for nail trims every 4-6weeks and she keeps needing lumps of matted hair cut out under her belly near her back legs and around her bum
My long haired guinea pig is so hard to catch bc I can’t reach every part of my cage (I was stupid when building it) but she is also very skittish and still doesn’t trust me which I can’t really blame on her since I did have to syringe feed her medicine2 times everyday for the first month after I got her. Watching people so easily cut guinea pig hair makes me so jealous since it is so hard with my long haired girl.
I don't have long haired piggies either I just had to see Nacho's reaction you could also try music for guinea pigs it has lots of nature sounds! You spoil your piggies
I am so grateful for this. When I got my piggies a few months ago, we weren't told that one was a long-haired, so now I have a walking rug 😂
The shelter always cut my youngest boy‘s fur really short, so he looked like a shorthair in pictures. Turns out, he has long, curly fur ;).
The piano music part to distract was smart! I wonder if piggys do have a favorite music genre. Mine seem to love (low volume) bass a lot when I play, they even come to the edge of their enclosure

Malwinka and Balbinka I think I'm gonna cry that is so pure 😭😭 I love their names
I am fostering a 3 month old alpaca. Hair is not too crazy yet but it's growing.
I love your pigies
❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks you for this video! Very usefull. We’ve recently adopted twee coronet Guinea pigs. They are still young now so their hair is not very long, but that will change soon.
I hope they are okay with being brushed and get their hair cut. Right now they are still so jumpy, so I think I will definetely get some help holding them. 🙈
Yay perfect timing! Just going to give my Swiss piggie a haircut on his bum 😅
Yay for bum trims! 😅
Haha 😃😃 glad you enjoyed the video and seeing Nacho in all his glory 😂🤩
BRO CALM DOWN WTHH😭😭😭
you're such an amazing guinea pig owner! i appreciate everything you do for your piggies. im actually thinking of purchasing myself 2 guinea pigs! random question: how much pellets do you feed your pigs? i heard it was 1/4 for both piggies but im not quite sure. anyways, thank you for treating them so well! 💋
Thank you! And yes, a 1/4 cup is recommended for two, for us pellets is one area I need to get under control as I think I feed too many!
Lovely! Thank you.@@SqueakDreams
Can you please do a video of you showing us all of the brands of hay and pellets so we know what exactly to buy?
I have a skinny pig and just recently rescued two new guinea pigs. They have fur but it is short. I have only had skinny pigs so I was surprised at how much the furry potatoes shed 😂
YAYY U POSTED AGAIN!!!❤❤✨✨
I had dreadlocks on the back of my guinea pigs. I was also advised to use babies wipes tissues.
I have 2 coronets I butt cut every month bought some clippers off Amazon quiet and gentle designed for babies and small children don't harm or cut the skin
They sound great, who love to know what the clippers are called and I'll look at getting some 😃
They are called fravison baby hair clipper's I've used on all 4 of my boys even the abbis need a little poop in the fur removing no issues with any of my boys
i made the mistake of getting 3 long haired piggies at once after not owning any animals for a bit. it's a steep learning curve. i think i might get some clippers and try them out because scissor-trimming three smelly butts back to back takes all day!!
My Shufai used to cry with every snip of the scissors, drama pig 😊
We have over 6 Long haired Piggies (2 Lunkyara, 1 Coronet, 1 Sheltie, 1 Swiss, 1 Texel), we show my piggies especially the long hair ones but most of them are shown in the pet sections so we can clip them/shorten the hair 😆
I love nacho
Nacho is the best🎉❤🎉🎉🎉😊😊😊😊
My long haired guinea pig, Nutmeg, has some matted fir on her bum and I am going to comb them out soon. It has happened before because I forgot to cut the hair around her bum😢
If it's already matted, it's best to carefully snip that hair away, trying to comb it might be painful. Don't feel too bad though, it happens and I hope this video has helped! 😊
i have a silkie and he is very high maintenance 🗿❤
H I owe your videos this well really help me thank you 😘😘😘
Would abysianian coun as long hair ? My piggie is pretty fuzzy
What kind of shampoo do you use like an oatmeal shampoo
question
is it okay to get a nutered male and female pair
I hope that I wasn’t the only one that thought for a second that the comb on the thumbnail was a shaver😂
Hi Sarah! I have two little girls and we are thinking about getting a neutered boy to join us! He is a Peruvian and we have reserved him. The only problem is that we are worried about trimming his bottom. I have a daughter who loves her girls! Any tips or advice would be appreciated!
What breed is the yellow one with the white spot? Got one myself dunno the breed.
Yes
Thx!
I double checked an ur correct! Thx a lot.
I’ve just recently brought 2 baby boars, absolutely over the moon with them both! However if I was to want more piggies is this possible? I keep reading about it and people are saying you can’t so I’m so confused lol!
My Guinea pig passed away and her sister is all alone, would giving Clover a stuffed animal help or would she chew on it?
Sorry for your loss💗 I think you can give them some more toys but make sure u do get another Guinea pig when u can
When they get mats in their inner thighs we call it gnarly knickers. Of 11 pigs, three don’t need haircuts. I cut a lot of hair.
I love your channel so much and always have watched it I would love for you to reply!
Thank you! I try make sure all early comments get a reply 😁😄🥰
Thnq for ur reply I m from India I went to the vet but they do nothing
I had 4 cutes
this was my baby Rocky, sadly he has passed away but it was such a crazy boy when i tried to trim his hair. It was always stressfull because i really didnt know what i was doing and he hadnt been feeling well for a while before this trim. He figured out if he climbed up my chest i would stop trimming such a butthead lol. Yes the video is on a different youtube page for the piggies themselves but i dont stream or post very much at all

Struggling with this we have a long haired girl who's around 10months old, we pick them up for nail trims every 4-6weeks and she keeps needing lumps of matted hair cut out under her belly near her back legs and around her bum
❤❤❤❤❤
My long haired guinea pig is so hard to catch bc I can’t reach every part of my cage (I was stupid when building it) but she is also very skittish and still doesn’t trust me which I can’t really blame on her since I did have to syringe feed her medicine2 times everyday for the first month after I got her. Watching people so easily cut guinea pig hair makes me so jealous since it is so hard with my long haired girl.
Super silly question because I don’t know do female guinea pigs have their period monthly
I don't have long haired piggies either I just had to see Nacho's reaction you could also try music for guinea pigs it has lots of nature sounds! You spoil your piggies
🌻🌻🌻🌻💛💛💛
Need to know please help
If piano music is stressful, I don’t understand why that would help
I'm not sure what breed my guinea pigs are, I think they one is an American guinea
