    Fun fact. I don't have this device but have already had a lot of fun with Leia Pix. I have taken my AI generated images from Midjourney and uploaded them for free to Leia Pix. It will automatically detect and create a 3D version. You can even give it some slight animations. There are different ways you can save the file. You can do SBS which is useful to take the image into a VR headset like the Meta Quest 2 to view it in 3D. I found the default file wasn't very high res in the Quest 2, but there are numerous sites now that do a great job of upscaling the images using AI. I was able to get it looking great. But even those that don't have a VR headset can experience some 3D with Leia Pix. You output to depth map and drag both images into a single Facebook post and it will convert it to the Facebook 3D that many of you have seen already on whatever device. Not really a comparison to what the Lume Pad 2 offers, but still pretty cool that you can do that with any image. I found that if the algorithm they use doesn't do the 3D as accurately as you would like to, you can edit the depth map version in a photo editor and get the 3D depth field exactly how you want it. Very cool free tool. Something to get you excited while you wait for this device to arrive or to get the money to afford it.

      I was wondering about doing something like this. Where is such a long latency coming from? Does it have any input for a wired connection from a PC? For example, displayport or HDMI out of the PC/GPU into USB-C via a converting cable?

    • @jayrtfm
      @jayrtfm Рік тому +1

      @@brettcameratraveler I think all the latency is coming from the nature of HLS, as the stream has to be saved as a file, sent out in chunks. When I was looking into it seems like for any kind of HLS streaming (not just with Lume) best we can get is about 3 seconds. Wireless connection won't add any noticeable delay

    I dunno if it did video calls, but this is basically the same kind of thing the 3DS has been doing for a while now, glasses free 3D, and it really is very cool. Kind of funny to see you so hyped for it right now--in a good way.
    Interestingly, this is also kinda how I've used my VR headset on many occasions, obviously for watching stereoscopic 3D movies on a giant virtual cinema screen, but also for playing say old GameCube games in full stereoscopic 3D on a giant virtual screen too, even though they were never made for it in the first place. Playing Eternal Darkness on a giant virtual cinema screen in full stereoscopic 3D via Bigscreen makes it feel totally fresh and exciting again, and just looks so cool to boot. I can't believe way more developers haven't done the same thing with their 2D games to be honest. It's pretty much just an extension of what M2 did with the Sega Ages range for 3DS. And most 2D and 3D games could be made to work like this pretty easily.
    Maybe this will be the start of all these companies finally grasping the bigger picture with good use of stereoscopic 3D. . . .

    • @mixedrealityTV

    • @inceptional
      @inceptional Рік тому +3

      @@635574 And they work brilliantly at that. I don't mean in some compromised way either. If you have a good VR headset, you can get cinema quality stereoscopic 3D movies in VR*. And, just because of the way the screen and lenses work, not only is the picture brighter than the way 3D currently is in cinemas, but you also don't perceive the edges of the glasses anywhere near as much as you do the ones at the cinema either.
      Side note: I haven't been able to see the last three 3D movies I've tried to watch in the cinema properly. And I viewed them in three different cinemas on three different screens. So either the tech has changed or my eyes have suddenly stopped being able to see 3D in the cinema even though I could see it perfectly fine only a few years ago. But, in VR, I can still see it perfectly. Strange but true.
      And, when it comes to stereoscopic 3D gaming, so long as the developer implements it properly, it can do perfect stereoscopic 3D versions of more traditional games. I've played Virtual Boy, 3DS, Wii and GameCube games all in full stereoscopic 3D. Again, I am kinda shocked more game developers haven't figured out the absolutely enormous potential here. I mean, honestly, playing Eternal Darkness like this--imagine sitting in your own private virtual cinema with the game running in stereoscopic 3D on a giant cinema screen--it's just stunning.
      *You also might be surprised that the stereoscopic 3D versions of old 2D movies like The Lion King (the original) and Beauty and the Beast (the original), along with the traditional hand-drawn sections of the Spongebob movie in stereoscopic 3D, are actually some of the very best examples of 3D in movies I've ever seen. For whatever reason, that 2D art shown in stereoscopic 3D seems to look and work much better than pretty much any either live-action or cgi 3D movies. Bonkers but true.

A rat sees everything in 3D but its eyes don't need the IPD of a human because all that matters is a slight difference in image capture between left and right to produce 3D.

    Very cool tech for sure! But I have a few concerns about it:
    1. How future-proof is it? Will the chat be compatible with similar devices that are eventually introduced by other manufacturers? Are your 3D camera recordings stored in an industry standard format? How about the device itself, does Lume guarantee Android updates through any specific date? What are the warranty support options?
    2. How compatible is it with existing content? Will it provide 3D for some existing games like vorpX does for 3D headsets on the PC? How good is the 3D effect for movies, does it look as good as a made for 3D movie on a compatible Sony TV from 2014?
    3. Are there any apps that let you look around a virtual world as you move the tablet around you? That would be especially cool for titles which require little interaction other than looking around the environment like Crow: The Legend on the Microsoft store.
    4. How good are the hardware specs of this tablet? Is it compatible with a USB-C to HDMI adapter (i.e. does the chipset support USB Alt Mode)? What version of bluetooth does it have? Does it support WiFi-6E? Does it support LTE networks? How long does the battery last? How long does the battery take to charge? How good is the screen quality compared to the latest flagship phones from Apple, Samsung, Google? How good are the speakers? How much/what kind of RAM? How much/what kind of internal storage? What are the specs on the camera? Does it have all the standard sensors like gyroscope, accelerometer, proximity sensor and compass?

    I'm really excited. For the video calling feature and content viewing. But I would buy it for racing games. The Acer spatial labs monitor is very tempting but it is still quite small for a primary gaming screen. The Rokid max also sounds interesting for this usecase. However, spatial labs needs to make individual games compatible and rokid does not seem to support this usecase at all. So right now I'm still wondering what company will offer on the fly game conversion for any (racing) game to full fledged 3D viewing. Even VR does not offer this feature on non-VR games which is really a shame. If it did, it would make any flat game instant 3D which would have me buy the tech instantly. But true native 3D gaming unfortunately has not arrived yet...
