There was something rather strange about that fateful weekend. If you look up the footage of Barrichello's massive accident in practice that weekend, he lay motionless in the cockpit. All medics working on him and after some time, he was put in an ambulance to hospital. He was injured and couldn't make the race. Then Raztenberger hit the wall hard in practice, same situation. he lay motionless and all the medics working on him while still in the wrecked car. Then they eventually got him out of the wreckage an into an ambulance and eventually pronounce dead. Right at the start on race day, one car which was stalled was hit by another from behind and if you look carefully at the footage, you can see 2 tyres and some debris flying high over the fence and injuring 2 spectators and I believe a policeman as well on the other side. Race restarted and on lap 7 Senna hit the wall at Tamburello corner. Lots of medics work on him while motionless in the car and then is taken out and to hospital by helicopter. He was already brain dead and later he died. The race was restarted again, then during Michele Alboreto's pit stop, as he accelerates out, the tyres make contact and injures 2 mechanics, both taken to hospital. Too many unfortunate things happened that weekend. To me it's rather sinister and a very strange series of bad events happening around one F1 race event.

Words cannot simply describe the feelings watching this video, so many mixed emotions, just watching Roland Ratzenberger enter what would be his last ever seconds in a formula 1 car, its odd to think he would of been thinking about what gear he needed to be in and looking towards turn 1 mentally preparing himself to haul himself up the grid not whether he'd even make it back to the line safely. As many have said whilst recording this no one knew the full weight of it, what it would become and how it would echo through the ages, i wasnt alive when any of this occured so i can never experience hearing the news for the first time, its videos like this that give us a reminder of how dangerous this job is. thank you for uploading this rest in piece Ayrton rest in piece Roland both will forever be remembered like many others for risking their lives for our entertainment...
Eu estava na casa do me primo. Triste dia...
Strange to see history play out like this. Also sombre to think that, of the two men who led the race that day, one of them died before the sun had set and the other one may never remember this day ever happened...
Acervo pessoal impressionante, excelente.
This video actually made me cry. I adore Ayrton Senna and would say I'm a super fan, but seeing this raw footage of his last weekend and that too of Roland really hit hard. Every other clip of Imola in 1994 makes it seem like fiction, almost stylised in every documentary or news clip I've ever watched. This video shows they're all just human, from the spectators to the drivers, and everyone was there to have a good time. Everyone is equal in death, regardless of fame or luck in life. I hope this doesn't sound too depressing to read as a comment, but I felt compelled to share my thoughts. Thank you for sharing this video after all these years.
That was one really sad weekend. Many people felt for Senna but we should never forget Roland... also Barrichello almost died on that track. Thank you for sharing this piece of history.
First of all sorry for my English (using google translator). I am Brazilian, thank you in all sincerity for your sharing, this is a historical record of one of the saddest events of our people, Senna represented a lot for us. Thank you again! And congratulations. Friendly hug.

Man, this is really tough to watch as a Brazilian. I remember crying out loud that May 1st, and kind of feel similar emotions every time I revisit it. So many things went wrong in a single weekend... Thank you for posting.
Me too ! I will never forget that tragic day 😢 . I was 10 years old and I watched the race with my dad and when we saw the accident I know something was wrong with Ayrton . He didn’t move and it took a long time to take him to the helicopter . And when I heard he passed away I cried so much and I was really sad most of the day , he was such a great driver and a wonderful person . I still miss him .
@@F1Legend33 I remember weekend when it happened pretty well. Many people myself included stopped watching F1 after all those accidents and deaths. Then there were trials and National Geographic documentary about Senna's accident, at the time we already knew steering column broke which wasn't what trial and documentary conclusion. We got to know more during this covid times, fortunately new cars are much safer thank to Roland Ratzenmberger, Senna and many other drivers like Nikki Lauda, etc.
I had just turned 4 years old and I was watching this GP with my dad. Senna going off the track and my dad jumping up and shouting is the earliest memory I have in life. RIP Ayrton.
I am Italian and I wanted to thank you for this wonderful document. however, I am thrilled to see people celebrate for Larini's result after the terrible weekend of blood. without respect for the pilots and the people involved. Senna will remain in my heart forever.
Wow. What a footage. I remember watching the race and later finding out my favorite driver died. That was the last race I watched until I started watching again in 2010. F1 just didn’t feel the same to me without Senna . I felt such sadness. RIP Ayrton. The best ever.
Wow! What a footage! Me and Every Brazilians remember exactly what we does when Senna's crashed on the wall. Your footage shows another vision before and after this moment. He and Roland died does what they dreamned and liked to do. This is how I celebrate theses lives. Thanks for this video.
poor Larini, he's forgotten in all of this, it was really the only F1 race he ever got in a reasonable car that actually made it past the first corner... and he finished 2nd.
Bet the folks who captured this priceless and timeless footage did not feel the full weight of history they were recording at the time... Now almost twenty-five years later...

First of all we did not get much information at the track, We first found out that Roland Ratzenberger had an fatal crash when we got back at the hotel, and then on Sunday we found out the terrible news about Ayrton Senna on our way back home, at the hotel in the evening. It was a very empty feeling after that weekend, usually you feel exhilarated after a great F1 GP weekend.
What a exceptional footage. For those who have witnessed this live they get to see this once in a lifetime. Real F1 drivers at the same time Ayrton, Gerhard, Michael, Mika, Alain and Jackie the oldest living F1 champion.
That´s a very important video for all F1 fans. I was only 13 years old, but remember as if it was yesterday. Senna was like a member of the family for all of us, brazilians. I also take a time to remember Roland Ratzenberger. Thank you, Thomas.
This was very painful to watch. Invaluable footage, truly a treasure. Thank you so much for sharing this. It's bittersweet to watch this, two legends, one in his last race, one on the way to his first championship. And everybody unaware of how impactful this race weekend would become.
Thank you so much for posting this. I and my friends (one of whom was a computer programmer for the Ferrari F1 team) were about the same row as you were but further down the grid about where the Simtek puts were. A very sad weekend, made worse because like you we did not know of Senna’s death until we got back to my friend’s townhouse in Maranello that evening. It’s been 26 years but it seems like it will never be forgotten. You can see some of my photos of the race in the book “1994” by Ibrar Malek and in the Summer 2019 issue of Auto Tradition magazine.
Truly upsetting, I remember it, like it was yesterday. I've to say that after Senna's death I never watched a F1 racing car again. He was truly inspirational and still is a great figure to our country. :(
I am speechless , this brings back all the memories of that tragic weekend when Roland and my All time hero Ayrton died , Thomas you will get a lot of interest from the motorsport community with these RARE UNSEEN vids ..... GREAT JOB
Really captures a F1 GP, unbelievable how cursed that meeting was. Motor racing was my First love. After that weekend it was never the same again. I still love it but realise the price paid by some is the ultimate price. RIP Roland and Ayrton. Both forever remembered by this F1 fan. Thank you for this important footage, very well taken.
I was only a child on this day. I was 4 and as usual I got up early to watch the F1 here in Brazilian tv. I remember clearly the tv host saying : Senna crashed strong! Senna crashed strong! I stopped eating my morning bread (YES, we eat bread and drink coffee with milk in the morning) and I looked at the tv. Sad moment because the car was still sliding after crash the wall. I’ll never forget this day.
Wow. I was only 5, but I remember everything. I was already a big fan of Senna, just like every brazilian kid down here. We were crazy about him, he was our Ronaldinho at that time, or more. I used to watch the races with my dad at home and this day we were all at my uncle's house, the whole family, cousins, brothers, etc. I remember the feeling when Galvão Bueno told about the crash live on TV, and the worried look in my relatives' eyes. one of the best footage of the most in"famous" grand prix in history.. Thanks a million for sharing it. It is simply invaluable. I am amazed to see the detail as well. So many famous names here, esp Lauda, Prost and Todt speaking to each other. Sad to see Berger trying hard to get as much info as possible after the crash.
Thomas Grønvold, Thank you for bringing new images of Ayrton. For us Brazilians, it is considered a myth, a differentiated person, which is used as an example for many people to this day. Watching this GP again brings us a mix of longing and sadness, but death is part of it. This video is precious and I, like thousands of Brazilians who were thrilled to see you, can only thank you. Thank you
This film is golden for the right reasons (Great era of F1, wonderful engine noises, legendary drivers and very well filmed overall) and for the wrong reasons (We all know what happened throughout that weekend). Thank you for your upload though 👌 It has generated several emotions inside me.
Thomas Grønvold "Thank you" simply does not make justice to the gratitude of the UA-cam Motorsports fans that are able to watch this high quality raw unbiased footage with no crummy music or other bad practices we see around other uploads. This is gold!
25 years later the heart still remembers that fateful day .... thanks for posting such a rare video, you made me feel like I was inside the Imola circuit, seeing Senna lining up her Willians on the grid for the last time cut the heart .thank you very much...
You have historic footages, that was a really strange and horrible weekend with so many saddest things happening. For a brazilian this is painful to watch
Thank you so very much for sharing this footage. It is a weekend no fan will ever forget. I was 15 and had never seen anything like it before. Again thank you for sharing
So strange and eerie to see this all from someone else's camera in the crowd. I was supposed to be going to Monaco and Silverstone and possibly spa that year but after imola I didn't go to any. Next gp I went to was Silverstone 96 and it still didn't feel right.
A such horrible weekend! Roland and Senna has passed away 30 years....and all it seems like it was yesterday. The May/1st/1994...the day which never ends😥
This is good footage. Thank you for sharing this important moment in history. Thankfully you were seated where you were at the race start, and was unhurt.
i was sitting in Pirattella. It was a very shocking weekend for me as a teenage.. Roland , Ayrton , The mechanics get hit by the Tyres.. in 7th April 1996 i had the chance to go back with my father to imola but I didn't want to . Can't enjoy it. Senna was my favorite driver
Wow when the whole world was yet unable to sense the own globe effect, but we knew that we will watch on tv, they will run cars on the "floor" (literally) and we knew people will be there watching and filming the things... The broken lens of the world eye. Amazing. I love these footages.
Another thing that’s not taken into account is that the Benetton of Letho had dropped a bucket load of fluids on the racing line. Radiator fluid-engine oil-hydro fluid or whatever. You can see it being cleared away @ 10:09 The cars must have run over it as they passed. Oil based fluids don’t burn away they stay on track and I have always wondered did it play more a role than thought.
It is insane how far ahead the safety measures and procedures have evolved because of this exact morbid F1 weekend... 15 or so people were clearing debris while cars were going by at 200+km/h just a few meters next to them, like it is standard procedure.
Thank you for sharing, I had started watching F1 in 1996 and am aware of the history at Imola. To see images of Senna and Ratzenberger's last lap and an anxious Berger... wow. I'm speechless.
Thanks for sharing Thomas... It is really impressive you material. I am from Brazil, and I had my chance with Senna, a photo and an autograph in Interlagos 1994.
Thanks a lot for sharing. Very different from what we see on documentaries, from the crowd it just looks like another GP ... Deep footage, thanks a lot man !
Gracias.
Thanks for sharing this. I was 14 years old when I watched this whole thing live on TV. Not in your footage, but Barrichelo also crashed horribly in qualifying and almost got killed too. What a cursed weekend. I remember there were talks of cancelling F1 outright it was so bad. After that, I never really watched it anymore. RIP Ratzenberger and Senna.
Thanks Thomas for video! It's amazing video. I am from Lithuania and Ayrton Senna been my favorite driver ever from Formula One.No Schumacher no nothing just Ayrton Senna best driver ever in Formula 1.!!!Rest in Peace Ayrton Senna Forever in our hearts......
Amazing to see what else was happening as we were losing Senna. I’ve seen the crash footage many times, but this is the first time I’ve seen the drivers and crews after the action at tamburelo had happened.
Great home video of one of the most notorious days in Formula 1 history. Ayrton Senna was may favorite F1 driver and still to this day I wish he never left McLaren to drive for Renault. I remember Dale Earnhardt won the NASCAR race that day and was very somber due to the death of Senna. Formula 1 rule changes in 1994 took away the handling dominance Williams Renault had the year before. I still believe it was a factor leading to the crash and death of Ayrton Senna. If Ayrton had not passed that day, he would have been the greatest F1 driver ever. Better than Michael Schumacher, Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton. RIP AYRTON SENNA 😢

With Liberty Media now i can guarentee for 99.9% it wont be removed. Maybe by UA-cam but never by F1/Liberty Media.

So many famous names here, esp Lauda, Prost and Todt speaking to each other. Sad to see Berger trying hard to get as much info as possible after the crash.
paras sahai Thank you for appreciating the video.
Thank you
Than you for your kind words!
Thank you for appreciating the video.
This film is golden for the right reasons (Great era of F1, wonderful engine noises, legendary drivers and very well filmed overall) and for the wrong reasons (We all know what happened throughout that weekend).
Thank you for your upload though 👌 It has generated several emotions inside me.
+Arn_K90 Thank You!
Thomas Grønvold "Thank you" simply does not make justice to the gratitude of the UA-cam Motorsports fans that are able to watch this high quality raw unbiased footage with no crummy music or other bad practices we see around other uploads. This is gold!
What an amazing video! Thanks for sharing!
Best video of that dreaded day that's still in circulation. NEVER lose it.
Good footage of the most awful weekend in F1 history!! I was 13 years old and I remember how sad these days were. Thanks for share with us!
Thank you for this footage. I feel im in the crowd of people. With you. I wish i could just jump and run after Senna to tell him not to do this race
This footage is pure Gold...
Thank you for your contribution Thomas!
These RAW footage from amateurs is very special as it adds so much reality. Thank you for sharing
A legend had left planet earth that black day. Great video. Took all my memories back from that day. RIP Senna, Ratzenberger. 🙏🏻🌟
Incredible footage. THANK YOU so much for sharing
Thanks for watching
Wow when the whole world was yet unable to sense the own globe effect, but we knew that we will watch on tv, they will run cars on the "floor" (literally) and we knew people will be there watching and filming the things... The broken lens of the world eye. Amazing. I love these footages.
yeah the collective shell shock gave the effect "broken lens of world eye" very good subject
Thank you so much for this video, this is the best way to save our old video archives.
Quality of video is just superbGreat material
Thank you!

WHO OWNS THE COPYRIGHT
It’s fairly simple: If you created the video, the copyright belongs to you
true
no word, amazing video , amazing quality , you captured almost all details in race
Thank you!
Ratzenberg's last lap so emotional
Thank you for sharing.excellent quality, great to see a capture from Roland again after so many years.
Thank your for appreciating the video.
Another thing that’s not taken into account is that the Benetton of Letho had dropped a bucket load of fluids on the racing line. Radiator fluid-engine oil-hydro fluid or whatever. You can see it being cleared away @ 10:09
The cars must have run over it as they passed. Oil based fluids don’t burn away they stay on track and I have always wondered did it play more a role than thought.
This is amazing footage of one of the worst weekends in F1 history, thank you for sharing!
Man, thats some great footage.thank for sharing.
Arguably the most historical F1 footage we currently have.
Chills were sent down my spine seeing Roland start his last lap.. so sad. RIP Roland and Ayrton.
To see images of Senna and Ratzenberger's last lap and an anxious Berger... wow. I'm speechless.
what a day...i went to the Montreal race this year and could not believe the changes instituted in such a short period of time
My heart kinda dropped because when the lights went out and the cars started to take off you know that that was the last time Senna was gonna race
Thanks for sharing Thomas... It is really impressive you material. I am from Brazil, and I had my chance with Senna, a photo and an autograph in Interlagos 1994.
Great job transfering the original analog video from 1994 into digital Material. Very good quality! 👍
tristissimi eventi.
I'll remembers this race till I die... Such a sad day for the whole World. Thanx for sharing your video, it's piece of History.
Wow! This is EPIC! Thanks for sharing! Senna Forever!
e ainda teve o do rubens barrichello
Senna my childhood hero and this was a very sad race. Thank you for uploading this very interesting video from one of the great F1 circuits.
Thanks a lot for sharing. Very different from what we see on documentaries, from the crowd it just looks like another GP ... Deep footage, thanks a lot man !
Great footage. You feel how the crowd is somewhat chocked by the crash of Ratzemberger in the day before by the silence until the out lap to the grid.
There were so many things about this weekend telling Ayrton not to race :(
Gracias.
Absolutely amazing and haunting imagery, I love how the image distorts during the start at 7:51 due to the epic engine noise.
A very sad weekend in motorsport. Thank you for sharing your footage.
Thanks for share!!! A bad Day !!! Um dos dias mais tristes da história! 01/05/1994 ; 11/09/2001.
Thank you for appreciating the video!
You're welcome!
Amazing to see what else was happening as we were losing Senna. I’ve seen the crash footage many times, but this is the first time I’ve seen the drivers and crews after the action at tamburelo had happened.
Meu Deus que imagem incrível, saudades do Ayrton Senna...
The tire flying without any control in the middle of the crowd on the lounch accident... Insane, insane
