  • Saab's Gripen fighter jet contract with the Czech Republic has been canceled due to the Czech government's commitment to the Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II aircraft. This decision represents a significant shift in the global defense landscape, affecting Saab's market presence. The company is now focusing on potential contracts with India, Thailand, and the Philippines, despite competition from the Rafale fighter. @4ORCENews

Might be a good thing to buy the F 35. However the cost of having one F35 is the same as having nearly 4 Jas 39 E or 6 Jas 39 C. I would argue that 4 Jas 39 E is a better alternative.

Philippines may go with 3 squadrons of slightly used F-16 Block 50 from US and Denmark or France's Rafale instead .The Swedish government still can't make-up their mind over some human rights issues it had with PH former president.

Bet they wont manage as many flight hours in the F-35 as they did in the Gripen

I wonder if these purchased are ultimately made on military or political grounds.
In Canada's case for example, aggravating an already inward looking America by not buying F-35s could come with political or economic reprisals. I don't know how true that argument would be for the Czech Republic.
