An interesting note about the carb, the "392" is not a model number or anything like that, but rather it indicates that it's a Mikuni carb made under license of Amal. The numbers 3, 9, and 2 are pronounced as Mi, Ku and Ni respectively in Japanese, so it seems that was their way of putting their name on it, without actually putting their name on it.
That is too cool. I spent 11 years in Japan while in the Air Force and never saw or came across one of these. I do not think that I would restore it, leave it exactly like it is... great find!!
Nice job on your period correct preservation. I ride a 63 touring 90 and the advancements made in only a decade is mind blowing. The early Dreams were influenced by DKW and Adler then only 3 years later the C70 Dream was the completely in house designed game changer.
That is so cool,I had never heard of these before, and now I`m green with envy!!...Fantastic bike!...that combined key ignition/light switch is brilliant.
Fascinating Video.. well detailed and thorough My First Honda that I bought in '66 was a '64 Honda Benly C92....which was obviously much more sophisticated than the Dream 3 E..... I have often wondered what the early Honda's ran like....the 3E must have been as good as any other Bike that the rest of the World could Manufacture.
Hello and thanks for watching! While this is the earliest bike that I have personal experience with, it does feel a bit primitive. I suspect this '53 Dream is more on par with early-40's bikes from Europe (think Zundapp and NSU). However, Honda very quickly modernized in the mid-to-late-50's to become a world-leader in technology and reliability.
Great question and I should have covered that as some time went into sorting it out. The parts manual lists ML3-6. I wasn't able to find anything currently available with that description. I found that a Yuasa 6YB8L-B was a perfect fit... aaaand was now recently obsolete. Luckily I found one... 7000 miles away... but it was worth it. It's a perfect fit with good capacity. I also failed to mention in the video that I rewound a new generator coil for the bike. Measured the wire, counted the turns, etc. Works great and charges right at 7.2V.
@@joeythebrush4632 Try a Motobatt next, they`re great new dry batteries,no spillage and hold their charge forever,I have one in my 1973 Triumph Hurricane x75....Drive safely, that`s a rare beauty you have there.

Thanks for the comment, glad you enjoyed it! Ride on!
Love this bike! I’d love to have an vintage Honda. I’ll probably get a 60s Dream. Seems to be a lot more common and available. Awesome bike man 👍🏻
From France with passion and respect ✌🏼🇨🇵😎
I was actually thinking while I watched this that for some reason I thought this looked like a French bike.

@@joeythebrush4632 Yep..my 'New' Honda...1986 1200 Gold Wing is really special.....I guess it could outrun a Dream 3E.?
.Lol.
@@cerealtiller Haha! That's for sure :) I have a '83 CB1100F as my new bike! :)
And I like to imagine that Soichiro even saw my 1964 Honda CA200 in Saitama, before it was shipped-off.
I love it!!
Did i miss what battery it has and if you can still get one or similar? Beautiful vintage bike and condition.

What do you think this bike's value is right now?
I wish I knew! These bikes are so unknown by most people that they don’t have a real following. I’d say it could bring $15k on a good day.
