I agree that all kits were made to be built. I mentioned on another channel a month or so ago that the people who manufactured and packaged the kits 50 or more years ago deserve to have their hard work appreciated.
As a teen in the mid 1970s, I had two of Jo-Han's 1973/74 Javelin AMX kits. A few years later, late 1970s through early 1980s, I owned a '68 Javelin, a '68 AMX 2-seater, a '70 Javelin SST and a '71 Javelin. I loved them all. Wish I had been able to keep one or all of them. AMC made truly great but unappreciated cars. Over the years since I've had the MPC 1/20 scale 1970 AMX (still have one), the Jo-han "Drag-on Lady" '69 AMX still on my shelf. I have three Auto World 1/18 die cast 1968/69 AMX, in different colors - just got the Big Bad Green version. Have many smaller scale die cast Javelins and AMXs ( Greenlight, Johnny Lightning, Hot Wheels, etc.). My favorite cars of all time! 😊 And, you have the best music selection of any model car channel! 😎👍 Yes, the tail lights are 1972. One year only for that style.
Thank you!!! I try very hard to match the tunes to cars era. I appreciate your support. My wife and I had Jeeps and when we first got married we had a 68 AMC Rebel 770 Cross Country Wagon. 232 Six with air and power steering. Great old car.
Very nice build. Everything looks really nice. I’ve recently bought several JoHan model kits, and I look forward to building all of them. Thanks for sharing.
Great looking model! Your kit is exactly the same as my kit I built last year. Plastic color is the same too! It also is mish mash of incorrectness. The taillights are 1972 but the body is 1973-1974. I was fortunate to get the correct 1973-1974 taillights from Modelhaus before they went out of business and finish mine. I've had it since the eighties. Used the Gremlin wheels too!
Hi Louie. Correct that is a 72 tail panel. I have many of these kits and the 71/72 renditions are for the most part 73/74 bodies. The correct 71/72 have a recessed areas on the roof that resemble T-Tops. The correct bodies for these early 2 years are very hard to find. I have owned 2, 73 AMXs and my 2nd one had the 401 and awesome motor. gobs of power. Both were fresh plum metallic with the pierre cardin interior. My 401 had the functional cowl induction hood also very rare in 73. I really miss this car.
Great looking build, wheels and tires look perfect on there. Thanks for building a kit most of us will never see in person, it's good to see one built.
You’re welcome!! They are made to be built. Not shelf occupants. I buy to build. Most of my Johan collection I purchased new with lawn mowing money back in the eighties. The current value does not matter to me. Thank you for your support!! I appreciate you watching. Happy modeling.
Recently finished this kit. Orange spoiler was addition after their '69 and '70 version kit. Finished in red. Awesome kit. Remember back in early 80's friend had a green '71. Let me tell you. Rides to and from HS were a lot of fun. Quite powerful car. It's hard to find one nowadays. Decals. I usually cover them with Kristal Klear Liquid Decal Film, once dried a coat of gloss clear overcoat, and it should work. Just remember need to cut close to the image, these have continous carrier fil. At least mine did. I had 1971 issue.
interior reminds me of when i first bough mine used. sitting in it that night listening to the included Thomas Dolby cassette, “she blinded me with science!” also, the high A/C setting was labeled, “DESERT CONDITIONS ONLY!” 🤣
Some of these older kits look simple and a bit too basic compared to newer models, but this one has a nicely detailed engine and looks good when it's done. There's a lot to be said for older kits, especially the ones representing subjects that are unavailable now.
Wow that's a expensive kit, I just got one off eBay for 135. It's molded in a off white color and the same spoiler is Orange like yours. I was wondering about that my self, I'm glad you did this video now I know I'm not the only one that has a different color spoiler, But it's has 73 or 74 body and 72 tell lights, 71 and 72 had the t top body lines in the roof
I am a new subscriber and I enjoy your channel. A great job on the build, and the paint selection was great. You have inspired me to get back into building models.looks like you build the engine and paint hole thing the engine color, then go back and paint the other parts. Is that the case? I am glad I found your channel keep up making videos and the great craftsmenship of building models.
I like doing subassemblies. That way the cement holds the parts together better then painting them and trying to glue the edges together. Tighter seams too. Thank you for watching!!
I remember buliding the Shirley Shahan "Drag-on Lady" 1969 AMX (also by Jo-han) back in the '90s. Were the molds lost or damaged? Wish they'd do a re-release of that one, damn that was a good kit.
Some of the tools were sold for scrap metal and others had so much missing and damaged that they are unusable. Unfortunately these great kits will never be released again. At least in this form.
the one on the side was like mine, red with that black hood detail. side pipers, Cragars, and some big tires i forget the brand, too long ago, photos buried somewhere. 🤦🏻♂️
the body is a 1973-74 it doesn't have the t-top style roof like the 71-72 but the tail lights look like 72 versions. that's one thing i hate about these kits its hard to find one with the flat roof and correct 73-74 tail lights, or vice versa.you never know what color it will be molded in, witch roof it will have or witch set of tail lights it has with the kit until you open up the box.

I agree!!! I bought most of my vintage collection of Johan kits new in the eighties with my lawn mowing money. Thank you for watching
@@TheAutisticModeler I don't miss a video. All of you guys inspire me to build
@@jamesdurham9182 I appreciate that.

The Plum color really suits the design of car. Not all shapes of cars can pull off certain colors. Looks fantastic.
Thank you!!!! 😊
Very nice build. Everything looks really nice. I’ve recently bought several JoHan model kits, and I look forward to building all of them. Thanks for sharing.
That looks GREAT!! Love building vintage kits, that's what they were made for.

Looks great! I think the kit is happier being built. Turn signals do look great. Thanks for the video.
Such a cool kit! Love the color choice and your build!
Fantastic vault build! Keep 'em coming!!
One of my favorite more obscure muscle cars. Can’t find any new kits that do AMX, or I’m not looking hard enough. Love the build my man!

My Rebel said that too!!
Cool car
have to pony up some dough to get at least one Javelin. whatever is closest to a 73 AMX that I owned. Love these old kit build ups!
Wow, that Rust-Oleum 2X clear came out great. I don't have luck with that stuff.
Car came out great
That a sweet looking Javelin AMX. That paint combo is awesome. 😊
Nicely done

It would be cool to do an Alabama State Trooper car from this kit.
I agree, kits are meant to be built, not stored....nice job

Crazy!! I guess they all have that orange spoiler

Thanks I’ll have to give that a try.
Fantastic Color choice for a little know Muscle cars. One of the kit manufacturers should make new molds for the old American Motors Corp. Cars
I agree. Moebius would be a great fit.

Very nice. I have one but it's missing all the chrome
Sadness. Maybe eBay?
