  • This arrival from the east, expecting ILS 05, is changed to straight-in visual for 23, leaving me with a lot of altitude to get rid of in a hurry. I set up for a circle-to-land, but didn't need to execute it.

Well done, under the circumstances! An alternate suggestion for an approach to a runway without an instrument approach, you can keep the autopilot ON, with NAV GPS Direct Airport ID and OBS (for runway 23) 230. You can than even position a temporary fix, with DME (and altitude) away from the airport, as a reference from base to final. Thanks for your energy and efforts for making these educational clips. Safe flights, Don.

That's close to home for me, nice to see these surroundings.
I have to ask, what brought you there?
Actually, since you're flying all over the place, what brings you everywhere?

At least you had a nice comfy airplane to sit in at the end.

So , tell me. you received landing Clerance after Minimums ??? :S

Well, technically the "minimum" in a visual landing is replaced by the declaration "field in sight". The minimum I had plugged in was for the circle-to-land, which I never executed. But if you plug in a number, the G1000 will announce "minimums" when you get to that altitude. (Watching this again, you see that I never actually declared "field in sight", but apparently the tower interpreted my statement that I was in clear air and accept the visual as the same thing, since I got clearance on the visual in response to that.)
