Thank you for this. Jump to 19:30 and you'll see a 13-year-old me sneaking behind the interviewee on camera. I always remember doing this but never saw it until now. Hahaha
I remember leaving work there that day and going home getting changed to party for the weekend. Every weekend was at the ship pub and remember see this start early morning round bout 6 am if I remember right. I was just sitting on the beach with the sun coming up and then seeing this happen was not good as I had no work to go back to.
The Council arranged for it to be burned down because they feared it would attract customers away from the new-developing extension to Peter Pans. (Adventure Island.) Just like St. Erkenwalds Church. The council removed several roof tiles so the roof would be weather damaged beyond repair thus provoking compulsory demolition of the church. The council arrange many back-handers to demolish landmarks in the town. Remember the big London Plane tree on the Victoria Circus roundabout, opposite Victoria Station? The council paid a company to fell this tree in the early hours of the morning so nobody would campaign.

My dad worked on the bowling alley when it was first built, and I bowled there for more years than I care to remember.

It’s cool that they got to interview John Lithgow as a witness
strange that something situated above billions of gallons of water should catch fire so many times.
Piers are notorious for catching fire.
