Fave bars on Respiration?
Look in the skies for God what you see besides the smog is broken dreams flying away on the wings of the obscene
The hook and thoughts that people put in the air places where you can get murdered for a glare
I love the hook the most, but all 3 came off.
Let's not forget that Style Wars intro! First verse Mo's - Hard knuckles on the second hands of working-class watches
Skyscrapers is colossus, the cost of living is preposterous
Stay alive, you pay or die, no options
"Some cats be emceeing
To illustrate what we be seeing.
It's hard to be a spiritual being
When shot is shakong what you believe in"
¡Classic bars, Kwe!!
Mos Def’s entire first verse is rap poetry legend. Multi-syllables, vivid landscapes, and similes galore
Facts
*A Top 10 track in rap history.*
Uber facts!!!!!
I would consider it Hip Hop.
You mean hip hop, rap is the middle/new school corny lyrical stuff, hip pop is melodic trap, mumble is trap with incomprehensible lyrics, and trap rock/metal is the aggressive trap.
Agreed
Factories !
Respiration and Thieves in the Night are probably my two favorite hip hop songs.
Fuck yeah, TiN is amazing
mines too🔥🔥🔥
From the album, for sure
yes also good mourning on talibs n hi teks refection eternal
That whole Blackstar album was a gem. Patiently waiting for the new one
might be waiting forever...since it'd being held up indefinitely.
WORD !! 🔥
@@thecunninlynguist Yea I read an article about that last week and I was nearly discouraged, especially since Madlib was said to be doing the production
Defining album, classic, its educational, filled with BARS. It's pure hip hop.
WELL GUYS, the album is on internet nowadays
One of the best hip hop tracks of all time!
Talib and Common, both of my top 10 favourite rappers
My man ain’t been past downtown 🗣🗣✊🏿✊🏿✊🏿
One of the most poetic and well written but still literally and emotionally complex songs ever made... One of my personal favorites of all time...
Talib's verse on that track is literal poetry
This is the best show on UA-cam, hands down.
In 99 when I first heard this song I immediately said this is why I really love Hip Hop. Such a great all around song.
One of the greatest songs of all time
Best interviewers (not just hip hop):
Angie Martinez
SWAY
Talib Kweli
They give the people their flowers, and the artist will open up a bit.
That's wassup! Damn sure ain't Wendy Williams 😑
Yo, on The Amen, Corner I stood looking at my former hood
Felt the spirit in the wind, knew my friend was gone for good
Threw dirt on the casket, the hurt, I couldn't mask it
Mixing down emotions, struggle I hadn't mastered
I choreograph seven steps to heaven
And hell, waiting to exhale and make the bread leavened
Veteran of a cold war It's Chica-I-go for
What I know or, what's known
So some days I take the bus home, just to touch home
From the crib I spend months gone
Sat by the window with a clutched dome listening to shorties cuss long
Young girls with weak minds, but they butt strong
When the single was out I used to put the instrumental on the cd, press repeat, and write to it every day.
Com murdered it
That’s back when Common used to body all the features
Mos Def has the best verse on that track IMO.
He ain't body that track. Mos Def shitted all over that record, let's not play games
@@shogunate2 he did have the best verse.
@@CameronThomasMedia nah that was Mos
@@shogunate2 i meant mos. you're right.
Respiration and Thieves in the Night are the 2 pinnacles of what real poetry combined with sonic art can accomplish. I think Respiration is the 'Modern day' Mona Lisa of Rap and Hip-Hop
That song literally makes me shed a tear, it’s so impactful, one of the greatest true hip hop cuts, we will never get anything like this anymore.
One of the best tracks on one of the greatest hip hop albums of all-time.
My Top 10 songs of all time. Any Genre.
Much LOVE and RESPECT to Blackstar and Common Sense...Salute!!
One of the best songs in the history of music
I choreographed 7 steps to heaven - I still say that in my head to this day
One of the greatest songs in hip hop history. I still go downtown Seattle with this one and zone out and watch the chaos....
Dam I remember been blown away when i watching that vid on rap city like it was a breath of fresh air from all the gangsta rap east coast/west coast fiasco
One of my favorite tracks ever such a classic man !
I just loved yo' _Black Star_ album, Talib. The CD packaging was so dope. Very fancy.
Still gives me chills
I tear up each time I hear this song, poetry in motion. Real sentiments expressed in every line!
Facts
People dont know black starr stopped a lot of black youth suicides. I had no idea of myself until I discovered Black Starr...saved my life.
That’s my favourite joint of all time
I worked for the label when that Chicago show happened; Kweli wanted kicks and Hi Tek needed records that he left behind. It was a great night and fun job, even tho most of the rest of the label hated the street team.
Best Common co-lab is with Scarface/Bey on 🎶The Corner 🎵
Up there,,💯
Timeless music
Belly Up Tavern San Diego, I grew up a block away from there & saw Public Enemy, Del The Funky Homosapien (I still have the ticket that says"Del Funky w/Homosapien") & Blackalicious. Great lil venue, thanks for all these stories!!💯😎🌴
& How cool is it to know he had a green coat on in the black & white video?!👕
THIS TRACK… became a permanent fixture in my playlist immediately… 3 of some of my favorite artists made for a classic record
Respect and Light ✊🏽
Underrated song for sure
I Remember the episode of RapCity where they played the Respiration video and did a breakdown/interpretation of the Bars....CLASSIC!!! I've been searching the internet for it to this day! 🕵🏾♀️📶
What a Trio they could have been.🎤🎤🎤
The beginning of respiration sounds so dope I always wondered what the woman was saying during the intro it sounds like an African prayer or something whatever it is it sounds beautiful if anyone can decipher what she's saying please write it in the comments it's one if my favorite songs of all time, Classic
A monumental joint.
Top 5 hip hop song of all time
True definition of grind and grit solidified with passion.
One of my favorite songs and videos all time I wish they do a new song together the time is perfect the world could use it.
I watched that video about a week ago.
Been bumping that joint for an eyon.
"Girls with weak minds but they butt strong"... Common saw this only fans coming. Song was prophetic Mos Tab and Common are what you call the "true messengers"

Masterpiece Track.
Bro. What was the original beat? That track is perfect.
Loved it. Goosebumps
Ok, ok. The tease must cease. The first hip hop concert I attended was at the House of Blues for Common's Electric Circus Your and Kweli came through. Now they on here talking about THE track that I've heard about 600 or 700 times...without Yasiin? We gotta get him on the show. It's only right. Oh, and put up the whole episode, fam. This is torture.
If skills sold truth be told, I'd probably be lyrically Talib Kweli, truthfully I want to rhyme like Common Sense, I sold 5 mill and I haven't been rhyming like Common Sense
I haven’t been rhyming like Common since*

What are the vocals being sung in the background while Mos Def is rapping the hook, before Common rhymes? And if it's from another song, which song is it from??

Hey Talib! Have you noticed UA-cam has cut out your last bars from being heard?!? What up wit that 🤔
The style wars sample
Talib has to address the black woman bashing I'm hearing about.
actually, it's a black man-bashing situation but unfortunately it's being disguised as that
Don't disrespect the gods and gangstas with these dx culture vulture rituals...
Take yo lame mass somewhere else with thot outernet gossiping.
Wrong space, black belt Jones

Classic..
Nice m'y Friends music

Pete Rock remix.💣💣💣💣
Wonder what song we got with kwe’s beat choice.
Album version or Pete Rock remix? Hmmm
🔥🔥🔥
What was the original beat for Respiration?
Common’s verse was the illest on that track 🔥🔥🔥🔥! Subscribe to our page we have that underground hip hop!
😘✊🏽
W I need three. Stop prgoductionx
Now I wanna know what happened to that beat Kweli wanted to use.
It became “Sharp Shooters” with Dead Prez off Lyricist Lounge Vol 2
@@uproxx Another classic. If it's ever an answer on Jeopardy, now I'm covered. lol Thanks.
@@uproxx thank god they didn't rhyme on that mediocre beat. Respiration is WAY better.
VIIIBES!!!
Common definitely had the weakest verse on that joint....in fact common has always been wack never heard a common verse I was blown away by or even liked, and his voice sound like he has allergies or some shit
Get rid of that girl co host👊🏽 ..... she’s out of place
Talib been harassing a Black Woman for a week now
