Hi, many thanks for the video! I'm facing the difficult task of creating a filter across multiple data sources but in "CASCADING" or "DIRLL-DOWN" format which only shows "RELEVANT VALUES" (a function that only exists in a normal field within a single data source) when an element in the parameter is selected. If you have any ideas for me, highly appreciated!
Hi Balu, yes you can! You can also use filter actions or sets to achieve the same functionality. But if you had a few calculated fields that represent different date periods, such as YTD, rolling 12 months etc., and you wanted your end user to simply select the period they are interested in and filter across multiple data sources, then using a parameter in this manner will do the trick.
Thx for your sharing, i tried your step but my 2nd dashboard can only when i select show all, other will become empty. In your example, both chart re required to have the same data field ( business cycle field) for the data that to be joined? I
Hi Chi, you can find this workbook on the Tableau public site : public.tableau.com/app/profile/dscovr.analytics/viz/Useaparametertofilteracrossmultipledatasources/ExampleDash. Try downloading it and taking a closer look at how the parameters/calculations are set up. Hopefully this can help you find the issue, but if not (just let me know and I will help you troubleshoot). :)
Hey Sachit, I don't think you can display the parameter as a multi select filter, parameters are typically limited to single value selection. Not sure if there is a workaround, but I'll look into it and let you know!
You great. Trying to find such a nice and simple, clear explanation and demo from lase few days. Found yours is the right one for my issue. Thank you.
THANK YOU SO MUCH for making such wonderful video! practically saved my day. ❤
Nice Video. Also, Good catch in the calculated field setting OR [Cycle] = "ALL".

You can use filter by using all using related datasources option right

Can we combine date fields into one Global date parameter and have the option of similar date filtering options (daily/monthly/weekly, etc...)?
Hi Joseph, yes I've seen it done before. I'll try to find a good tutorial for you and share the link.

Hi. Can we multi select filters across different data sources with same name and categories using a single parameter?
In theory yes! Give it a try!
@@DSCOVRAnalytics thank you. Just one follow up question, will I be able to to see the multi select parameter as a drop down list?
