What I love about this anime is it didn't push the "will they won't they" trope. All in 12 episodes too. I got so sick of 12 episode shows just leaving things open ended. While this story is far from over. Atleast we got an official couple out of this
+Adam Lawrence Ikki has his doubts, insecurities, and personal crises but he pulls himself back together fast and always bounces back - and unlike so many anime romantic leads these days, like keven said, he isn't wishy-washy and dense - even though there are other gals throwing themselves at him, he knows who his heart belongs to. That made this show refreshing to watch, and those two characters fun to cheer for. =)

Also what I loved was that the fights and the romance overshadowed the bit of ecchi in there in a good way, and the jokes were tasteful and wellput as well. The execution was so on point and I'm thoroughly impressed. Hoping for a season 2!
Holy shit, they like....they actually hooked up. Not even just boyfriend/girlfriend, they straight up became fiances on LIVE tv is front of basically all the other characters. And the "love rival" isn't even all salty and bitter about it? They didn't stretch this out for the entire series run or hint at it happening in the future, just "this is it, they're a couple". I mean, normally I'd say that's kinda rushed, but I'm more hung up on the fact that this is even happening. Props to the writers and everyone else involved in this show, THANK YOU so much for doing this. I was practically expecting that this whole show was gonna follow the usual harem cookie-cutter formula, and I'm really stoked that it's not.

I honestly love Ikki and Stella's relationship a lot. In the LN, there's actually some other girls who try to get in the way of their relationship later on. But Ikki doesn't play around like that and he tells them to fuck off lmao
IKR, Ikki is an overpowered MC done right. Doesn't do any cheap sleeve pulls, but actually studies his opponents' moves and fighting styles, and on top of that, he stays fully committed to Stella, who's also a very likable love interest character. I really wish Chivalry of a Failed Knight was longer, because this anime is very good. More anime protagonists should take notes from Ikki
What I particularily liked is that, even in the beginning, they don't act as "the male main and his future decated wife" but as a duo, a couple. Even though the story is about the failed knight, both the failed and the mighty are main and the plot doesn't care about their power differences. Shit i'm crying now (male tears tho), I really missed that anime. (and finally some shôunen heroes who actually use their freaking brains)

It's amazing how pretty calmly Stella's dad took this. He's an emperor and could have raged out of hsi mind, but he calmly calls Ikki's dad, tells him It's big news that Ikki proposed to STella and she said yes, and subtly warns him not to involved their kids in political shenanigans. He even uses Itsuki's first name with no honorifics which If I remember correctly is a big deal in japanese culture. He must not be afraid of Ikki's dad if he can get away with that. Edit: My mistake. Stella's father is not calm, According to Stella, her father will lock Ikki in a dungeon upon meeting him.
I fucking love the fact that Ikki isn't your average beta protagonist and I love how he didn't put off confessing to Stella. He told Stella straight up that he liked her and he even proposed later on. I don't know if you're up to date with the LN, and if you aren't then be prepared for spoilers, but he even fucked Stella after he defeated her in the finals. He's just a badass and I want more protagonists to take notes from him haha and I love his relationship with Stella.

I thought when he said he had something to tell her, it was something about making good on their promise to make it to the Seven Stars. I never imagined it would be a proposal, not at all.

+zarith4fiddy I guess that's not too surprising. They're both swordfighting action anime, but the core of both shows is a powerful love story. As one of my buddies would put it, reduce the show to one sentence and it's not about swords at all, it's "boy meets girl." Kirito/Asuka and Ikki/Stella are both real power couples in kind of the same way and I love how their personalities interact with and support each other. I once saw a SAO AMV done to a famous '90s movie love ballad by Bryan Adams called "Everything I Do (I Do It For You)" and felt that it was a very fitting song for Kirito/Asuna - but that song suits Ikki/Stella just as well, for the same reasons. =)
+zarith4fiddy Yes, both anime show romance, but I may have to disagree with your point about SAO being an incredible anime in terms of its' romance. The biggest difference between the two is how Rakudai focuses on the relationship of Stella and Ikki while not giving any hints that Ikki likes any other characters. SAO may have shown something similar, but it kept its Harem which is a very stupid thing to do because by the end of season 2, the potential "love interests" become bland and almost non-existent by the 2nd season.

Watching this again, you do notice how much more you appreciate about this scene. Not just the fact that Ikki went a step further than girlfriend and solidified the canon couple, not just the fact that Stella pulled a "yeetus deletus" on that disturbing fat fuck that got in the way, but also the fact that Stella's farther told Ikki's to kindly fuck off now that his daughter is involved, and the fact that Shizuku funnily enough was pissed about the proposal while Alice and the Newspaper girl were excited. So much you don't notice until you watch it again and really look for it
I'm starting to think they purposefully make most male protagonists either indecisive/Idiotic/Perverted/Allergic to their harem for the sole purpose of cuckold one of harem by the fans. Hence we have creepy weebs and their Rias Body pillows.
This isn't a harem, and in the novel later volumes everything gets better, especially the fights and the romance along with the couple's feelings for each other that brings them to higher levels and ikki breaking his chains of fate, just to be with the girl he loves. Faithfully should be the perfect song for these two, because of how Ikki clearly states that he loves Stella and wants to be with her for the rest of his life and he shows it. His and Stella's relationship is so beautifully executed and well written to the point where if they were real, they'd definitely be married forever. This is what SAO was missing.
Literally, everything about this Anime is great, the relationship, fighting, backstory, characters and character development, and don't even get me started on that song in the background, it takes me to a different place. Out of all of the Romance, Ecchi, and Harem anime that I've watched over the course of 4 years, this one is by far the best. Its depressing because they have enough LN material to make another season and they're almost caught up with the manga so now we just have to wait. And if the don't give it to us, well then I'm going to get really sad and pray that I forget about it before they officially say no. I really hope somebody scrolling through comments finds this so then I can know whether or not the fanbase is still alive.

A lot of Tsundere characters tend to be very abusive bitches who just like having the MC as someone to pummel, but Stella quickly sheds that and becomes more openly affectionate, and protective of him.

I honestly love Ikki and Stella's relationship a lot. In the LN, there's actually some other girls who try to get in the way of their relationship later on. But Ikki doesn't play around like that and he tells them to fuck off lmao

IKR, Ikki is an overpowered MC done right. Doesn't do any cheap sleeve pulls, but actually studies his opponents' moves and fighting styles, and on top of that, he stays fully committed to Stella, who's also a very likable love interest character. I really wish Chivalry of a Failed Knight was longer, because this anime is very good. More anime protagonists should take notes from Ikki
What I particularily liked is that, even in the beginning, they don't act as "the male main and his future decated wife" but as a duo, a couple. Even though the story is about the failed knight, both the failed and the mighty are main and the plot doesn't care about their power differences. Shit i'm crying now (male tears tho), I really missed that anime. (and finally some shôunen heroes who actually use their freaking brains)

It's amazing how pretty calmly Stella's dad took this. He's an emperor and could have raged out of hsi mind, but he calmly calls Ikki's dad, tells him It's big news that Ikki proposed to STella and she said yes, and subtly warns him not to involved their kids in political shenanigans. He even uses Itsuki's first name with no honorifics which If I remember correctly is a big deal in japanese culture. He must not be afraid of Ikki's dad if he can get away with that.
Edit: My mistake. Stella's father is not calm, According to Stella, her father will lock Ikki in a dungeon upon meeting him.
I fucking love the fact that Ikki isn't your average beta protagonist and I love how he didn't put off confessing to Stella. He told Stella straight up that he liked her and he even proposed later on. I don't know if you're up to date with the LN, and if you aren't then be prepared for spoilers, but he even fucked Stella after he defeated her in the finals. He's just a badass and I want more protagonists to take notes from him haha and I love his relationship with Stella.

Well I meant top 3 protagonists for a Harem anime. My top were 1. Issei 2. Arata 3. Ikki. So he is relevent given the show's genre. I was talking about Harem protagonists in general because most of them are denser than rebar-enforced concrete.
In addition to all the standard rules they defied to make such a satisfying finale, I also loved how the Vermillion Emperor calls out Ikki's dad at the end, warns him against meddling, and exposes his shortcomings. "Don't you feel that way" indeed, hahaha! I really need to get more of this...

A gem among animes. I have not seen such relationship development in a 12 episode anime for a while, if at all. I thought when he said he had something to tell her, it was something about making good on their promise to make it to the Seven Stars. I never imagined it would be a proposal, not at all.

A really rare thing to find in an Anime. A kiss and a proposal for a marriage in just 12 episode. You will not find this kind of thing in nowadays harem-filled action Animes. This and Sword Art Online are probably freaking diamonds. Note that I said action, not your slice-of-life romance anime.
+zarith4fiddy I guess that's not too surprising. They're both swordfighting action anime, but the core of both shows is a powerful love story. As one of my buddies would put it, reduce the show to one sentence and it's not about swords at all, it's "boy meets girl."
Kirito/Asuka and Ikki/Stella are both real power couples in kind of the same way and I love how their personalities interact with and support each other. I once saw a SAO AMV done to a famous '90s movie love ballad by Bryan Adams called "Everything I Do (I Do It For You)" and felt that it was a very fitting song for Kirito/Asuna - but that song suits Ikki/Stella just as well, for the same reasons. =)

The biggest difference between the two is how Rakudai focuses on the relationship of Stella and Ikki while not giving any hints that Ikki likes any other characters. SAO may have shown something similar, but it kept its Harem which is a very stupid thing to do because by the end of season 2, the potential "love interests" become bland and almost non-existent by the 2nd season.

First season has most perfect love story ever created, which shows how love can pull you out from any shit you are into. The saddest fact is, theres like 10 times more harem anime than just straight romance.

I love this couple. Ikki is such a man! In the Ln, after their match and winning they legitimately had sex. She had bought a 10 pack of condoms after the cabin thing. That night in the infirmiry, he used all ten in one go. It also said after the first time that she got really into it and mounted him! XD The Ln was very descriptive about that. Lol

Watching this again, you do notice how much more you appreciate about this scene. Not just the fact that Ikki went a step further than girlfriend and solidified the canon couple, not just the fact that Stella pulled a "yeetus deletus" on that disturbing fat fuck that got in the way, but also the fact that Stella's farther told Ikki's to kindly fuck off now that his daughter is involved, and the fact that Shizuku funnily enough was pissed about the proposal while Alice and the Newspaper girl were excited.

Faithfully should be the perfect song for these two, because of how Ikki clearly states that he loves Stella and wants to be with her for the rest of his life and he shows it. His and Stella's relationship is so beautifully executed and well written to the point where if they were real, they'd definitely be married forever. This is what SAO was missing.

Literally, everything about this Anime is great, the relationship, fighting, backstory, characters and character development, and don't even get me started on that song in the background, it takes me to a different place. Out of all of the Romance, Ecchi, and Harem anime that I've watched over the course of 4 years, this one is by far the best. Its depressing because they have enough LN material to make another season and they're almost caught up with the manga so now we just have to wait. And if the don't give it to us, well then I'm going to get really sad and pray that I forget about it before they officially say no.

It doesn't follow the bs tsundere trend and actually lets the characters like each other and shows us why they like each other. By far, imo, the best anime of all time. Can't believe others don't follow in it's footsteps and succumb to the generic "stale mc with a harem of chicks that clearly don't like him and beat him like he's a punching bag because of their insecurities, but are actually in love with him because the plot says so and he did that one thing when they were friends as kids" I hate those type of "romances"

@@masterdeity3400 Y'know, I think Stella's the gold standard for Tsundere love interests. Since Ikki's very upfront about his feelings for her, she eagerly reciprocates. A lot of Tsundere characters tend to be very abusive bitches who just like having the MC as someone to pummel, but Stella quickly sheds that and becomes more openly affectionate, and protective of him.
Hopefully this anime gets a season 2! This anime rightfully deserves high recognition.
