Hannibal.... really appreciate the professionalism and respect in your interviews..so refreshing not hearing an overzealous fanboy looking for hits for his channel and saying "yeah ,I was gonna ask you that" every other sentence. These older vets of wrestling we're part of coming up before cable and such , so it's great to hear their perspective of that era. Truly , thank.
RF's investigational journalistic follow up questioning consists of two rapport-killing statements: 1. Yeah I was gonna ask you that and 2. Yeah we're going to come to that later
This is gold if I ever saw it. Thank you so much Hannibal for doing this interview, and thanks to Jerry Jarrett for being so open and honest. Blessings to you both in the new year.
Hate that I'm just now seeing this now after he's passed but I have to say this is pure gold. Thank you Hannibal TV for doing this and putting it on youtube. Surely even Cornette can give props to Devon for doing what he did here.
Been waiting for this one. Jerry Jarrett has some huge knowledge. Hannibal you’re doing a great job with these interviews and us wrestling fans really appreciate it. Thank you
Just started listening, one thing I will give props to is Hannibal TV for all the background work you do to make each shoot so wonderful to watch. I just finished the JJ Dillon Shoot and it was fantastic. What a gentleman. God, I love to hear these old stories from the golden ages of wrestling. Vader was a great one.
The individual making a living by being a parody, is never as big or as successful as the original due to being less talented, unless you’re Weird Al Yankovic.
@@shawnpatrick6038 well said. And I've been saying the same thing about coffee!! The reason Bruce hates Jerry Jarrett so bad is because in 93 when it was thought Vince may go to prison Jerry would run the company, he asked Bruce why Pat Patterson had him there? Jerry didn't mind getting his own coffee.
What an amazing awesome 👏 interview I’ve ever got to watch on UA-cam!!! Bravo 👏 bravo 👏 Jerry Jarrett is a amazing man with a great 👍 life. Memphis Wrestling will always be the best wrestling that ever came on TV.
He built a castle had two friends named King one could wrestle one could sing. He got more for less he had a moral stance he's the bleeping genius that brought corny to the dance. He's the king of Developmental he is JJ OG he in my humble opinion belongs in the Hof of the WWE.
. All the boys in the business not named Lawler or Dundee claims he was stingy with cash but I don't see how that can be cuz when you're young in that business you would wrestle for free he made the best chicken salad and booked a hell of a show got Bruce Prichard back over with the words well you know love was jelly when he got Vince's call that's probably why the brother wont mention who really came up with the concept for raw
Thank you so much Hannibal for this interview and all the others you conduct. As a professional historian, I recognize pro wrestling to be an important part of Americana.
REALLY enjoyed watching this!! Thank you for posting it in it’s entirety... and also the Tracey Smothers interview, which I plan on watching this weekend T
Jerry is so great. Truly one of the greatest minds in the history of the business. He made 10's of millions of dollars with his Tennessee promotion. He has been sought out as a consultant or for help by almost every major promoter in the industry. He helped bring along 100s of future superstars. So, when you see the Bruce Pritchard crowd make fun of him, ignore them. Bruce's biggest accomplishments are being Paul Bosch and Vince McMahon's secretary.
It's sad that these interviews with Jerry only get a few views with all the wrestling fans that are supposedly subscribed to the WWE channel... Every real wrestling fan should listen to these interviews and and see that this is one of the true pioneers of the territories who's there to the end
Hannibal, you should have followed up more about Jarrett's feelings about Vince's dad and Eddie Graham. It would have given us an even more revealing picture of Jarrett. His gratitude is palpable.
After hearing Jerry Jarrett, I really think the guy is a class act, real gentleman, and the definition of a good wrestling promoter, owner, and operator.
Hilarious! “This guy is driving me crazy!” Walks away...”Wait a minute!”...Stops...Turns...”Hey! You’d be a great manager!” I had never heard that story before.
What a truly interesting and revealing interview. Great questions with a down to earth owner of a storied territory who knows the business from every angle there is so well. A genuine truth based person of faith with no illusions, legitimately looks at associates as they really are and were while willing to help many of the well known personalities involved if the chips were down when he could do so to make wrestling a better product. At 2 hours in I realized what rare stuff we were able to share in. Thanks so much Jerry.
I loved watching this! Jerry Jarrett was my favorite wrestler when I was a little kid. My dad took me to the matches one week “at The Lexington Catholic High School gym”, as Nick Gulas always said it in the promos. I got to see some cool gimmick matches that were designed to give the evil heals their justified comeuppance. It was Tojo v. the evil Kurt Von Brauner in a judo jacket match (I loved martial arts so that’s what I was really there to see), and Jerry v. Karl Von Brauner in a boxing match (Jerry supposedly had been a Gold Gloves boxer, but that may have been kayfabe). Jackie Fargo was supposed to be in a chain match against the VB’s evil manager Saul Weingeroff, but Fargo was a no-show (*sniff*), so Jerry’s father-in-law (or future FIL, which I never knew before looking at Wikipedia recently) Eddie Marlin filled in. I still remember being disappointed when they announced Fargo couldn’t make it over the PA. Anyway, all the good guys won. What was great was at the start of the first 2 rounds of the boxing match, Karl took off running toward Jarrett to get in some sucker punches, but when he did it in round 3, Jerry was ready and gave him a stiff uppercut and laid him out. I loved it! It was a great night of fun.
Is that statue on his right the one used on the opening to championship wrestling on TV 5 in Memphis? I miss the show so much. Every Saturday starting at 11.
Hannibal did you ever ask about Jimmy Hart?!? I heard he left on bad terms but I find it crazy he never talked about Jimmy Hart unless I missed it, great channel
I cant believe I listened to this entire interview,it was awesome. I knew some about jerry jarrett and his contributions to pro wrestling but listening to this was incredibly cool. After 4 hours i wanted to hear him talk more. They need to do a big box set on the history of memphis wrestling featuring a lot of the matches and such. Ill have to look on the network to see if wwe has any footage of memphis bc i was way too young. I totally agree with the keep it real philosophy. I have the same opinions. I would pop big in a match if the guy just got out of the way instead of cooperating with a stupid move. Its so bad today that wrestlers social media have the wrestlers name&under it it says played by so and so. For 1,i cant support wrestlers that dont keep kayfabe alive. Thats why I like MJF so much.
I would love to know why Jerry kept Dusty Rhodes on that particular card, and not Ric Flair, if you ever have any follow up with him. Maybe it was just a choice, and it could have went either way. Maybe he had another reason. Jerry is an obvious genius who was hugely successful and made a lot of money. This was one of the most interesting interviews you have done. He really doesn’t give a shit about anyone who has criticized him, and is obviously more brilliant than anyone who has ever given him shit lol “When Vince goes to the pokey, your ass is gonna be out of work” Lol
Hannibal: You asked Jerry if there is existing film of the Lawler-Andy Kaufman fued. 2 sources. Lawler released The Early years vhs and Im not sure what network but I think its on youtube. "Im from Hollywood" has majority of Kaufman's feud, matches, tv appearances in memphis.
This has verified so much for me. Every opinion and point he makes is exactly my opinion on the business. What he said about the territories coming back is so true. The wrestlers were willing to go through years of graft and do a few things well, instead of feeders/NXT and weve got a million flips now but nobody can do a solid Irish whip.
3:13:27 I thought the concept was ''Tuesday Night Attitude'' (T.N.A) not Titans? but when they couldn't get the PPV slot on Tuesday they moved it to Wednesday and had to come up with the now infamous Total Nonstop Action name.
Jerry is down to earth and not a blow hard like Jim Cornette. Cornete loves to run his mouth and make it seems like he knows everything about the wrestling business and how things should be done. Jerry however, is mild mannered and doesn't spout the F bomb every other word and comes off as genuine and sincere.
Seems like Jerry Jarette is one of Vince MacMahon's true friends in life. It must be hard for a guy like Vince to have real friends, but I guess he really has one in Jerry. It's really telling that Vince named Jerry as the guy he trusted with his empire if he went to jail. It may be that Jerry is the only person Vince actually trusts....To this very day.
At first I’m like how am I gona do almost 5 hours but as soon as jerry spoke I’m like I can do this lol. But every time he says “WELL you know” I think of Bruce Prichard

Just imagine that pain and guilt, along with the triple bypass, along with the eventual estrangement from his son due to business getting in the way of a personal family relationship. Those years of knowing his son won't talk to him must have been supremely painful to Jerry Jarrett.

I liked it before even watching it. I was eagerly awaiting this interview being released in full!
This is the best interview I have ever seen. Listen to every second

what a great shoot interview, Jerry is a gentleman, love him after watching this. Your best shoot so far, Hannibal. Well done!
