      I'd say. Anyone in this race running a minute slower would have been a recognizable name in the 80's. And I think there were about 73 girls running within a minute of her time.

    Parker reminds me of the Katelyn from a few years back. She just needs to learn how to pace herself better and have that ending kick. Back in High School Katelyn would just take off and blow the field away. Now she runs differently and at some point Parker will too. As a big Katelyn fan I need to give Parker credit for being brave and going for it. The past week or so the evaluations about her were right. Not much experience on hills and needs to work on her kick. It's refreshing to hear her admit that. These 2 hopefully stay healthy and have a friendly rivalry for many years to come.

    • @noone-ld7pt
      @noone-ld7pt Рік тому +6

      I mean, knowing she doesn't have the kick she couldn't really have paced it any differently. Sitting in the pack on Tuohys shoulder would just be accepting defeat. She didn't blow up or slow significantly at the end and no one else were able to catch her, so I really don't think her pacing is the problem. She just needs to either get a stronger kick or get fast enough so that Tuohy never catches her in the first place.

    • @Matty88K
      @Matty88K Рік тому +1

      @@noone-ld7pt if that does happen, it will be interesting to see how Tuohy deals with it. There's no reason to believe KT won't rise to the occasion and keep Valby within striking distance amd out kick her to the line.. Hoping they both stay healthy and we'll have a chance to see which of these two ladies is the XC GOAT.

    • @bigdogstreetperformance6761
      @bigdogstreetperformance6761 Рік тому +4

      Tuohy runs the same as before, but she just has competition now that can keep up with her early in the race. In High School Tuohy had no competition and she blew the field away. These ladies in this race are the best in the NCAA and Tuohy beat 2nd place by 3 seconds / 3rd place by 10 seconds / 4th place by 16 seconds and 10th place by 23 seconds......

    • @garyraymond6658
      @garyraymond6658 Рік тому +1

      @@bigdogstreetperformance6761 All of that is true. But she also could have covered Parker's move. Which is what she would have done in High School if anybody else was capable of doing that. Now she has the confidence in her kick to go get anyone or pull away at the end. Katelyn is a completely different runner since she got the (2) second place finishes at the NCAA Indoors and mostly after she passed Krissy Gear in the 4X1500m relay and then got passed back. She sat down after the race and was mad. Since then she's just not in a rush to dominate. If she was running that relay now and against Krissy and everything was the same. Katelyn would run up on her shoulder and save something for the last lap. Coach Henes told her after some of those second place finishes to start using all the tools in her toolbox and she is. That's also what I'm saying about Parker. At some point she will learn to do the same thing. These higher level races come down to that final 1k or less. In track mostly the last lap.

I feel if she finds her rhythm and focuses more on training on the ground and improves her mileage game with hill game she will surprise herself and others. She should definitely not be counted out for being a close challenge to an already talented and focused outstanding distance runner. She has the ability to improve and do just as well and possibly win future championships. Congratulations. Remember to listen to your body and try and stay in
    Competitive shape.

    Next season will be a great one between Katelyn and Parker. Especially if Parker takes the lessons she learned today and learns from them. Parker did make one mistake when she talked about her fitness being as good as that of anyone else and while that is true of most other women there today she is not as fit as Katelyn and her ability to run hills better than Parker right now. If Katelyn had not had to be concerned with her own finish compared to her team mates for the team title today she could have easily broken away from the group along with Parker and likely beaten her by a quarter mile or more. The improvement Katelyn showed from last season to this season definitely showed through. It will be great to see if Parker has the same kind of improvement from this season to next and how that will effect races between the two next season. It will be nice for Florida and Parker if her team improves next year as well.

    Why did so many beat the course record? Easy, Parker dragged them there. Katelyn has the advantage of experience but that gap will close. Excellent race.

    I would think as a runner, the hardest position to be is in front. Others behind you are planning their strategy to overtake you, while you are trying to run as fast as possible.

    Difference between the two of them is gym work. Katelyn has pushed the weights and has core strenggth
