I have all the tools to make this but never thought of putting two filters in to double the flow! Thanks Ana! One thing to track is how much water you put through each time. Filters have a life of how much you can process before they are ineffective. In shtf I'd still boil my water if possible just as a precaution. And if you can't afford the filters, you can make your own in a similar bucket set up with a layer of activated charcoal, a layer of sand and a layer of rock. You'd need cheesecloth over the holes in the top bucket where the activated charcoal is. In this case I would make sure to use cheesecloth to separate all the layers so you can take it apart as charcoal can be reactivated in the oven so you want to be able to separate them easily. There is plenty of information on the internet to instruct you how to make your own. Great video!
Thank you 😊 someone said you can wash them , which I assume no different to method you describing . I believe it should filter 1500 litres roughly , depending on contamination
@@AnasFoodLifestyle the filters I have are short and ceramic. They come with a scrubbing pad and the instructions are just to scrub the outside of the filter where scum gathers (like if there were algae in the water and it stuck to the filter) no soap though. If I were going to use anything else to clean them it would just be vinegar and water.
@@pikayla5749 the filter candles I used to use were maybe 8" or 20cm long and were so slow (two of them overnight filtering 10L of water) the same length carbon filters are much faster.
You can flush the carbon filters when you clean them to extend their life. Put a hose from your tap to the pipe at the bottom of the filter and turn on the tap. It flushes through the "pores" or the filter
Looks good,. For those who don't want to go the home made route the British Berkefeld is a great one, you can get a slightly dented one cheaper. Mine had such a small dent Iif it hadn't been shiney I wouldn't have found it. the Berkey is being prosecuted at the moment in USA due to not testing correctly. The filters for the Berkfeld can be cleaned and reused especially if you use with tap water.
I did my own research a couple of years ago, and chose British Berkefeld. They have been through much more rigorous testing than the Berkey. BB are far cheaper.
When I was researching, it was Berkey that that was coming first on all the lists. I looked at all the relevant lab data and noticed that Berkey data was not from an independent laboratory, they would not pay for further in-depth testing in the way British Berkefeld and others did. Hence, the litigation at the moment.
Exactly the same filters I upgraded from in my bucket filter, I had been using doulton ultra carbon ceramic filter candles but they took way too long and don't filter quite so much 🤔 you might want to have a look at "waterdrop" countertop water filters too, I bought an ex demo model with new carbon filters for £125 save £25 from regular for a 8L filter
Hello, thank you for this video. I’ve invested in to the original berkey filters to do this bucket set up. We wont use the bottom tap because in emergency if it goes broken or start Ieak we might not be able to find new bucket. I wanted to save up to buy spare filters to have as back up, but now Its financialy unthinkable for us. I did not know about this cheaper version of the filters, so I will try to find them in my country.
Hi Anna. Could you please send me the link for these buckets on amazon please as I definitely want to grab some today. Thank you so much. A great video and very informative. Stay sage. X x ❤️❤️
Can you let us know how long it takes to filter a full top bucket with two filters in it? I ask because having two or three of these setups would mean you're not waiting for the water to filter if you have no tap water and are relying on rain water. This is a great setup!!

@@davidgraemesmith1980 thanks! Yes mine are small so I think two would be a must in my case.

You can also use stock pots if you want to avoid plastic? Very helpful thanks 👍
I got the plastic royal berkfield one with ultra strerasyl filters for about £85, seems plenty good enough
leave the lid loose or drill a small hole in top lid or water wont pass through the filters great design ive made one thanks anna and hubby
Yes sorry forgot to mention, vacuum will create if not slightly opened . I keep the lid loose , as easy to take off to top up 😊👍
That's brilliant Ana 😍😍
You should get a Rodi system @Ana I have one my self but only have it due to having marine fishtank never used it for drinking water even tho I could

I didn't realise that you are in Wales, Ana. I live in Wales too, about 16 miles from Swansea. Where are you based?
It’s a small world , even smaller in Wales 😉
