Furniture refinisher here, re: your kitchen table. Totally hear you on wanting to seal the top. Just wanted to bring up a sealing option you might want to consider (that I’ve never seen you use before!). Rather than using a water-based poly (which I know you use and I use a LOT too!) - for such an antiqued piece, it can make the top look like it has a layer of plastic sitting on the top…). Consider using either a clear wax (which will not darken the colour of the wood, has a velvet finish, and will add moderate protection) OR *hard wax oil*! Hard wax oil is a game changer - commonly used in Europe for sealing furniture. It’s really natural looking, very durable, and easy to touch up down the road (whereas polycrylics require a lot more work to touch up if you nick or scratch the surface). It’s food safe too. Check out the brand “Osmo.” Spot test obviously to make sure it doesn’t darken the wood more than you want, but worth looking into! Highly recommend!

As a mom of a 2 year old I hated people telling me "enjoy it, it goes by so quickly" when she was just born. I found adjusting to newborn life so hard. Now looking back, I realize everyone was so right! Thankfully baby#2 is on it's way so I'll have another shot at it 😊

I am 100% social media-free! I don't do any of that, but I am hooked on You Tube. One time, I went on FB with a fake account that I had to get to play on-line puzzle games, and I spent 3 solid hours looking at people's private lives! I know I would have been hooked if I kept going on there. I did sign up for Tik Tok for a minute because my super-talented niece was posting Polynesian dances on there, but when I found out as few weeks later that it was a China spying mechanism, I removed my self from it and deleted the app. I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything, and if there is something important I "need" to know, my brother, who does FB, tells me.
Never, ever downloaded Tik Tok. I only use Instagram to check on some of my You Tubers. I'm a You Tube gal. 😅
I just want to comment that Romeo speaks to Mckenna so softly and so sweet. I love how he gets excited about the same things she gets excited about even if its not a big deal. I can literally tell Romeo is just a great guy!

Great realization McCenna. I remember when my kids were babies. On our outings out of the house, i.e., Target one of the most important things for me was to engage with my kids. It use to upset me when I saw moms on their phones totally ignoring their babies. These are such precious times that you can't get back. So so important to be present. Thanks for sharing this with us as a reminder.
Mc Cenna, that is exactly why I dropped FB 3years ago, IG last year and I’ve never even been on TT. They and AI -want to Fragment the Brain. I only watch YT to watch all of the DIY videos and listen to music while cleaning and creating my projects. You my dear are my absolute favorite!❤
I’m almost of the same mind. I still have IG and FB (the latter because of school things and extra curricular that the kids are in) but I check them once in a blue moon. They are such a black hole.
I dropped fb, ig and (then) twitter in 2018. Best thing ive ever done. I watch yt for diys, home decor, geek stuff and politics, the last part is more so i don’t start living under a rock or something, but i chose it so im not too fired up (usually Brett cooper and Michael knowles)
have been off TT since 2020, ig and fb since 2018. just yt and linkedin and sometimes those feel overwhelming so i put a time limit for then per day on my phone. the world feels so much more approachable and gentle than online makes it feel and a lot less overwhelming with all the different info and fomo stuff
I dropped IG too and never on TT either. One of the best life decisions I've made.
I've never heard anybody who's dropped social media stuff say that they regretted it. In fact, many say that it's the best thing they ever did, can't believe how much extra time they now have, and are surprised, kind of embarrassed, how much they were addicted to it. That's the magic work - addicted. I KNOW that if I was on there, I'd be addicted. So, so glad I'm social-media free!

Same. I had a speech therapist come up to me in a grocery store to sing my daughters praises when she was age 2, for her extensive vocabulary & pronunciations. She said that she had worked with many children 2 & 3 times her age that were much further behind, and that she hypothesised that the progress she saw was usually in children who were spoken & read to often, about a wide variety of subjects, and that the limitations were seen in children from homes where they were taught to "be seen, but not heard," baby-talked to, or just mostly left to their own devices, with video games/television, etc.
We are so inundated with media. I love that you set good priorities for yourself and your baby.

I love to see how well the kitchen has turned out, but one thing that you might still be contemplating is the color of the range hood. I’m glad to see you’re giving blue a chance but the cool grey-blue of the hood doesn’t fit with the warm tones of the kitchen. Just a thought.

Watching you learn everything I learn in my child development classes in real time and feel profound joy about these things is SO LOVELY! Babies respond and understand WAY MORE than people think. I’m so glad you are loving your baby phase. I’d recommend researching toddler autonomy so that you can love the terrific twos just as much as the baby phase!

My daughters first job was at Ace Hardware, most are locally owned so you are supporting your locals by shopping there! I love Ace ours is so friendly and they are always helpful. Spend that time with that baby, he won't be that small and sweet forever! Love that you put that foot board under the dishwasher that would drive me crazy. That light is beautiful!
Kitchens is the heart of the home.
Tung oil for your table. Seals any wood and is food safe. I used it on my teak countertops. Only have to redo if heavily used and wiped with vinegar a lot but it's not a big deal to wipe it on and let dry overnight.

Love everything you've done with one exception - the hood color. It draws your eye in a bad way. All the warm tones and then the one big statement piece is a cool tone.

I put three coats of tung oil on my stained wood dining table thirty years ago and it held up great,no coasters needed. It was finally looking a little worn in places so during Covid,I put a tarp underneath the table and sanded it lightly by hand,then did three new coats of tung oil,beautiful! (I did it inside because my table top was also solid wood and beastly heavy)🙌🏻

Welcome to the world I had without the internet, without social media, and just living in the present. Every new milestones my blessings made is etched in my memory. Mommilies, I have many with my 5 blessings. So many wonderful memories that can never be replaced by a distraction. Every second counts in life. Especially the ones that are shared between your four walls! Enjoy every precious moment! Before you know it they are all adults! 4 of mine are adults and 1 is on the cusp of being one!❤

The handle on Cade's carseat is meant to be up when you're driving, it's extra safety. In case of a crash it protects the baby.
The over the sink glass light is lovely and looks perfect with the chandelier. I think it would be a keeper!!
Regarding kitchen organisation pertaining to crockery. Look at how you cook, how you use the fridge and how you make tea/ coffee then pack those things you uses ( mugs for coffee) that you use close to that area to minimise the walking/moving ( mitigate long term exhaustion in the kitchen). But also have a dedicated area for all the everyday crockery things ( plates , bowls, ….). Pots & pans cooking utensils near stove.
So on and so forth 😅. Also breakables on top and plastic to metal on bottom as you have a growing family. Logical placement work best in a kitchen . Just an idea as everyone has different logic and yes everyone cooks different.

It's so great to see such a wonderful mother, it warms my heart. Since you asked about the light, I think it's gorgeous, however, I think the chandelier is the star and the light is so close that it's competing. I love the glass light idea, but I think it should be simpler, with no pattern.

I honestly think something more horizontally wide above the sink might be nice, but 2 or 3 sources of light could be too much depending on the brightness of the bulbs.

Maybe those belong to Romeo’s clothing thing he has going on? If they source hoodies etc they surely wash it, but maybe don’t have enough space to put them on a rag. I bet they are dry in like 3 seconds on that roof - but then again aren’t you not supposed to dry clothing in direct sunlight???

I think that aside from a light above the sink is a little *blank*. It would be so pretty to put a shelf that matches your cabinetry or even one with moulding that matches the range hood! You could display cute tea pots, etc
Could you copy the “leg” shaped pieces to mimic those on your cabinets and attach them to the front of the piece under the dishwasher? That would help that panel blend in even more. I think the light needs to hang halfway down the wall above the window, not down lower than the top of the window and with a little width not linear like the previous light you tried. The blue things are very cute, shame about the color of the mitts.

I also agree that the blue color on the hood does not go with all the warm tones in the stone and cabinetry. A slightly warmer color, maybe just vanilla cotton or so would to it.

Blue - I think the color blue you were trying to describe for those potholders that you're returning was 'Indigo Blue' - leans towards a purplish cast. Yes, I think that light fixture would go perfect over your sink - love the design!

@@nmp6338 that's what I thought but they have a dryer. Plus it's a bit strange to put clothes on the roof where birds and squirrels poop, especially clothes you might sell. Or maybe he's disinfecting them after buying them, exposure to sunlight kills bacteria after all, and he does a normal wash and dry cycle after that. He seems very conscientious with his business, I'm sure there's a good reason 🤔

The kitchen is lovely, Except...color of the hood. Too pale & cool against the warm cozy vibe of everything else. Why dont you match the blue of the dishes that you're so drawn to? It would be intense, but the mahogany could stand up to it.
The beginning theatrics of these videos 😂 so different from her older videos. I remember her referencing another creator that she followed & wanted to mimic her style of filming. Well, looks like she accomplished that!

Placemats would be lovely for your table and offer protection too. They really add a warm, homey feel and add a bit of texture. You have been bitten by the lovely blue ware bug. Now that is a tweak of warmth! Those salt and pepper shakers. ❤
The seperate kitchen/dining room solution was so much lighter and more charming before this renovation. Now the light is somehow blocked or absorbed by these huge dark cabinets....everything is two sizes too big and too dark for the room. I think a lot of time , money and nerves could have been saved if they just did a refresh to their old cabinets, buy some new kitchen supplies and that is that...done.

I think a simple clear glass globe pendant would be beautiful above the sink. If you have another ornate light, it could compete and potentially clash with your beautiful chandelier.

Love seeing the baby! It really takes me back 40 years! To seal your table use a SPAR urethane for a hard bar top like finish that will be impervious to any liquid including alcohol. To make your lemon tree produce more, put onion skins just below the dirt around the tree. We have very similar styles. I just redid my kitchen in French country and my hood is very similar but smaller. I have a French bronze pediment piece that looks great on the range hood. Maybe in your flea market journeys you could find one to fit your hood. I think you would like it. I love watching you...you make my day!

Romeo sells vintage thrifted clothing, some of those older materials can't be put in a dryer. He is probably sun bleaching out stains or drying them after cleaning them!

For your kitchen table, have a look at Osmo Sealer. I believe it is a food-grade sealer and lets the natural beauty of the wood show thru.
