COMPLETELY SEPARATELY, I have been getting interested in Somali culture and food, and randomly just searched "old Somali music", and found this song in the playlist. Dooyo was a dominant sea sprit that once ruled the high seas according to Somali folklore. Ancient Somalis used to offer sacrifices, in the form of frankincense, gold, amber and fine garments. This song and other folk dances were specifically dedicated to the giant to solit his help for a safe voyage. In this day and age, Dooyo is no longer relevant for that purpose, yet his dance survives in the Somali folk culture.
