I can't be the only one who wants to see 2926 double head a special with 3751 right?
And have #ATSF2926 lead the trip with its retractable smokestack fully extended!
My personal congratulations to everyone who labored so hard for so many years to finally see 2926 once again on the main line. Without a dedicated group of professionals and volunteers it would have never ever happened - period! 2926 is indeed a very large steam locomotive by any standard, and is now one of the largest active steam locomotive currently 'operating' in America. What a fantastic achievement and job well done!
Also thanks to the people taking the videos and posting them on UA-cam. Hopefully this will encourage more steam locomotive rescues and rebuilds.
@@maxnash84504014 is far too overrated. Attention needs to be given back to 1218, so it can be restored a second time.
For those wondering at 12:20 the fireman was relighting his fire. If the fire goes out on an oil burner (which can happen for a number of reasons) then the fuel is increased to attempt to relight off of the heat from the bricks. It isn't uncommon but it is definitely not an ideal scenario: the increase in unburnt fuel and gas becomes a hazard if it doesn't catch quickly. That was a pretty subtantial flash but I wouldn't really fault the crew here, given this is the first time on the road for 2926. Stuff happens
One possibility is loosening or dislodging the fire bricks in the lower firebox. If then firebrick is hot then most of the time relight is not a problem but if the firebrick has been in service quite awhile might be a bit more of a problem. The fire door should be closed and bolted to prevent flash back into the cab. Nicely done. Best way is to take the time to do it right.
I'm in tears!! This scene makes me so very happy!!! Congratulations to the entire team on the amazing day 🎉
I have been down at the site watching since I was 3 years old! Eventually being able to volunteer. I have waited almost my whole life to see it hit the main line. Hearing that whistle echo through Albuquerque was one of the best things to ever hear! So very proud of 2926 and her crew/family!
You can TELL she's itching to highball, and I can't wait to see it! They've done such a stellar job restoring her, 2926 looks absolutely gorgeous.
I have a special affinity for the A.T&SF as my grandfather was a machinist at the Cleburne, TX shops after WWII, and worked there till he died from lung cancer. I never knew him as he died before I was born but, my grandmother lived very near those shops for most of my life and it was always a joy to walk down to the tracks and watch all the freight trains coming and going from the Cleburne Yard. It's a shadow of its former glory and now this is a bypass viaduct on the south end of the yard but, Santa Fe still runs freight out of there and Amtrak still stops there, so it was always a joy to visit my grandmother. I am very glad to see A.T.&SF Steam on the rails once again.
What a beautiful sight!
Congratulations to all that made this happen!
Man. That is one beautiful piece of history and that whistle was like heavens trumpets
Absolutely a worthy effort saving history for others. Thank you! That whistle is alone a reason to watch
A real American steam locomotive whistle. Not like a toy train steam whistle like British and European steam locomotive whistle! 😊
I live downtown. It was GREAT hearing the whistle all afternoon!!!!!!! I'll be there tomorrow!
Beautiful chime whistle. A magnificent restoration. Congratulations to all involved from NE England, birthplace of the railways.
I am crying tears of joy watching this steam locomotive do what she was built to do.
WELL DONE to those who put in the blood, sweat and tears to get her running after 70 years!!!
To 2926...may you ride and rule the rails for many years to come.
it looks so good! thankful that so many have been taking such good care of it and fixing it.
The engineering, design and construction of these monster engines never ceases to amaze me. Watching the drivetrain in action is just amazing....absolutely beautiful to watch.
I have to congratulate everyone who worked so hard on this beautiful Santa Fe giant I pray and wish you many success on your journey on the rails.
Stunning footage! I'm honored that I got to see 2926 myself today! Can't wait 'til she can run on the mainline someday!
Beautiful.
When you hear that whistle it says it all, this ain’t no diesel locomotive, I’m a true iron horse coming through, what a beautiful and awesome sight, growing up I always had a fascination with steam locomotives and seeing this just makes me smile and think of
Hello Thomas, an excellent video of the 4-8-4 AT&SF (Santa Fe) steam locomotive. A fantastic locomotive, thanks for the great video and have a nice Sunday. Best regards Wolfgang
All the work and dedication to save another Steam Loco,a piece of history,is much appreciated.
Glad to see 2926 being able to get out and stretch her legs a bit... Congrats to all involved in making this historic moment happen... From a former brakeman....
Beautiful engine with an outstanding, devoted crew. The whistle of 2926 gave me goosebumps!
A hearty big, grateful shout-out to anyone involved in this historical project! 😊♥️🚂🚃❗
In my experience, there is nothing modern that matches the sound of an actual steam whistle
Beautiful!
That is awesome great job crew I didn't realize that she has roller bearing side rods beautiful engine hope she lives a long second life
I’ve been waiting to see this happen for the last 5 years. And it was definitely worth the wait!
What a beautiful sight! And wow, that tender is LOOOOONNNNNGGGG!!
That Engine and watching work is a thing of beauty ,Great job by everyone involved.. Thanks for all your efforts to help keep the preservation of steam alive ...
My son is special needs and he loves trains 🚆🚂🚃🚄🚅🚇🚈🚉🚊🚝🚞🚋🛤 and is overjoyed that 2926 is up and running again, on the main line too! He hopes that they get ATSF caboose for 2926 to pull as well and that it gets to go farther down the main line real soon.
Always great to see the dedication and know how at work to keep these steam locomotives going. Very cool looking steam locomotive.
A monster! Beautiful. Congratulations and thank you to everyone that made this go.
Beautiful Restoration! Can’t wait to see it running down the line pulling a full load! Great restoration work!

This is history, I'm soo happy that 2926 is back😭!!! You did it teams great job and congratulations 🎉👏 for restoring a historic steam locomotive!!
Fantastic coverage of this event. Glad I could also be there for this historic event.
ATSF #2926 has taken its first steps on the mainline. Heck yeah. Its gonna get better from here. Thanks NMHR.
Superb restoration. Everyone involved needs to feel proud. You just can't beat a steam engine for power and crowd appeal.
12:22 that flashback 😬😬😬
What a sight!!! A friend and I toured this loco several years ago, while she was still being rebuilt. What a treat to see her out on the main again.
Watching the driving mechanism of a steam loco like this, and Big Boy is like watching the mechanism of a finely crafted swiss watch, except on a much larger scale.
That crossing sequence in steam!😍
Can't wait until she is pulling coaches up and down the Rio Grande Valley.
What a beautiful piece of machinery! Fantastic job!
Delighted Thanks 🎉❤ 🎉❤ 🎉❤🎉❤🎉❤🎉 😊 👍
Wow! I hope she tours the US. Would love to see such a beautiful work of art.
Absolutely fantastic and a HUGE congratulations to all involved. What an amazing undertaking, and what a beautiful, living, breathing, machine. INCREDIBLE!
Thank YOU for doing such a fantastic job shooting this video, and putting it together. You did this beauty a great justice in showing all her details, and letting us experience her amazing sound.
Very beautiful engine. These old steamers have so much character. I would love to see this beauty in person.
I grew up in Monee Illinois, along side of the Illinois Central Gulf line. Actually beside the tracks. Always enjoyed seeing the trains fly by.
Such a magnificent machine!
All shiny and beautiful. I love it! ❤
"EXTRA"!! 🐴🐎🐎🐎Wonderful Engine - also Greetings to my friends in Santa Fe N.M. + BNSF Bakersfield C.A
Ah, so nice to see (and to hear) 2926 running under its own steam.
Magnificent! Amazing that this know- how has been preserved.
Beautiful piece of machinery.
Classic, beautiful train, what an amazing marvel. Outstanding video, thank you for sharing. God bless 🙏🎄
What a gorgeous beast! That's the whistle I hear in my railroading dreams!
This gives me warm and fuzzy feelings to see this.... What a beautiful sight!
Such a beauty! It's amazing what these people have done over the last decades, I have seen some try, and fail, but this old girl will ride the rails!
Absolutely outstanding job!! Congratulations to everyone on the team 👏. That's one beautiful machine 👍
My great grandfather, grandfather, and step grandfather all worked for the Chicago & northwestern in Green Bay. As a kid I can remember railroad trips with my step grandfather to Chicago to visit the museums. Trains were pulled by steam. It is so heartening to see restored engines like in this video.
Cool.
Thank you.
Now that brings a real lump to my throat - what a wonderful sight that is!
Great rail therapy 💖💖
So magic , so fabulous , those old stezmers are back online , they are so fabulous
Great to see footage of Atsf engine 2926 back in service on the mainline once again, the 2926 is now the largest type of 4-8-4 locomotive in operating condition. I look forward to seeing footage of the 2926 hauling passenger excursion trains possibly next year in 2024 traveling through various town locations in New Mexico and the locomotive will have a chance to stretch its wheels.
It's awesome to see another ATSF Northern in Operation
That is one big Northern and tender! Beautiful!
Beautiful! Wish I could have been there!
21 years of work blood sweat tears and toil has finally paid off
What a machine. ❤
My god! A stunning pice of equipment she is.
Awesome
Gotta keep an eye on the fire else you get an explosion like at 12:21 when relighting from hot fire brick.
The whistle sounds awesome. The locomotive is amazing. The people who did restore should be very proud of what they did
Impressive!
3751 and 2926 need to double head one day.
I was 76 last week and remember steam goin' past our grade school in Philly in the fifties. The Broadway Limited et al. We played on those tracks. Now to see this beautiful monster come to life is a thrill. One can't fully comprehend the immensity until they stand beside one of these behemoths. Why not a national tour to show today's school children the true meaning of awe.
Unlike Big Boy which does national tours, AT&SF 2926 is not owned by a railroad.
Somebody owns it... all that work wasn't for it to become a museum piece. Take it on tour.@@YardLimit
That is one happy locomotive. Glad to see her back to life.
That was awesome on my birthday no less!
It would be great to have it here in Fort Madison Ia at the park with 2913!
What a joyous whistle. Sounds like the locomotive is happy to be freed!!!
The folks who worked on restoring SF 2926 should feel VERY PROUD of their work! From the looks of it - they put the old girl back on the rails in damned near mint condition! WHAT A SIGHT!!!! To all the folks who worked on 2926, your efforts will be SINCERELY APPRECIATED by we railfans!!!
Good job...!
It probably wasn't that nice new.
