Amazingly enough, you can see tourist from all around the world looking for international food. I met a (western) guy in Singapore who was doing a round the world trip who would evaluate the “best” countries depending on the availability and/or quality of international food (mexican, italian, etc).
Buuraha calmadow they can see a foreign culture while being reminded of home. Also Chinese food in France or the us is completely different from Chinese food in China.
3rd world mentality..... Narcissistic, Arrogant, Ignorant, Greedy, Selfish, Lacking Empathy. TOLERATED BUT NOT REALLY WELCOMED IN OTHER SOUTH EAST ASIAN COUNTRIES !!!
French are very polite and kind. Not because you are unable to speak a language tha n english, they are rude. learn french and all is fine, simple as that. Would I go to NYC and insist on french? Americans have such weird idea the other way around sometimes...no wonder that they get in trouble by that. Learn a civilized language, learn french. Simple as that
@@m.c9146 The whole language? I'm not American, but no one is learning fluent, or even conversational French, just for a holiday. I dislike people who criticise non-English speakers for not speaking English, even if they're in an English-speaking country. It's so rude and hypocritical. Lastly, what if I learned an uncivilised language? What to you is a civilised or uncivilised language?
I've studied in Montreal, Canada and I can say it's the exact same situation. Since the start of direct flights from Montreal to Beijing and Shanghai in 2015, Chinese tourists came there en masse. Even worse, rich Chinese investors, the same ones that jacked up home prices in Vancouver, Toronto, and other places, started doing the same to Montreal. The average home price that used to be $800k in 2014 is now $1.8 million in 2019. There has been such a sharp increase of homelessness and one of my favorite neighbourhoods there, where there was an equal number of English and French speakers, were almost entirely replaced by Mandarin speakers in a fortnight. Oh, and the city became much dirtier than before. It's not a good thing.
I thought Quebec has alot of restrictive language bylaws. Like how restaurants have to use French in their menus and waiters should always prioritize speaking French to customers. Is the government not enforcing that onto the Chinese over there?
@@elkinshiner5066 Technically, they are, but the government welcomed the Chinese investors because of how much money they could bring with lots of investment into local real estate. Unlike Vancouver, Montreal does not have a foreign buyer tax or an empty homes tax. Given the increased use of websites like Google Translate, Chinese business owners could just translate their signs into French while hiring local and more established Chinese inhabitants who could speak French to do things like customer service.
@@amberclarisse6928 Totally! Have you heard of Drew Pavlou? He was a University of Queensland student who organised protests against the Chinese Communist regime, and the Chinese consulate there incited violence against that peaceful protest organised by Drew. Because of UQ's relationship with China they decided not to take action against the violent Communist rioters but to suspend Drew. History will not look at this kindly!
herb - travel & video yup! I live in Brisbane and My boyfriend and friends go to QUT and we were just talking about this the other day! So shameful he didn’t do anything wrong. He’s taking them to court for defamation I believe but unfortunately I don’t think he will win the case. It’s definitely put me and a lot of people I know off UQ for sure
As a Chinese Canadian myself, I have to frankly say that Chinese tourists are the WORST. I used to work in a very tourist heavy area, and it was so frustrating. There is no courtesy or manners to be found among them. It's a shame, because when you travel it should be treated similarly to being in someone else's house - you must be polite and respect the rules/customs of the host.
I just hope Chinese educators and parents would realize what they have not been teaching to Chinese. Chinese are so proud of their academic grades (globally ranked) and future material status (e.g. jobs), but they forget the core value of life and code of conduct that presents who you are in the society is more important than $. I cant wait to finish my degree to go back to China to make a change. They need that.
***** nothing to do with the gov. most of them just out of poverty 20 years. they still have to learn the way of life. most of them did learnt and behave different. yet 1% from mainland make up a huge number. give them some times.
Trust me, the air in America and Europe feel like heaven once you live in a third world country. When returning back to Nepal I felt like I was suffocating.

Idk he went overseas before or not, but i think he have seen foreign person / informed enough quite a lot to learn manners. I like this guy tho, i hope other chinese tourists can learn from him.
Mr Summer and his family should not even be following a tour group. They should be travelling on their own. Look how Mr Summer appreciated the details of the sights especially the Louvre.
You are quite right, but my guess to why he is traveling with a tour group is because it is the easiest way to learn in his language the places where to go and the history. Also some people feel comfortable and secure when traveling in tour groups. I am not one of those travels though lool. I rather get lost and explore myself than let someone guide me. On the other hand I usually miss some important events and places when I travel on my own.
I've noticed a lot of East-Asians act in a childlike fashion. Strange to me as they are such smart people. Maybe it's their culture or maybe I'm a bit daft?

I’m part Chinese, but seriously, this got on my nerves. I’ve experienced this myself when I traveled to Thailand and Malaysia, and boy was it bad. A Chinese man making a loud video call showing the person on the other end how quiet and peaceful the Kuala Lumpur airport is. How ironic.
I also had this when I was in a waiting room in a train station of England, someone was speaking eastern european language in a very loud and rude manner, but I didn't understand. I didn't diss her on the internet or make a hateful video to attract haters. I simply asked what was going on, her house just got robbed and she needed to wait for the train to get back. All you need is a little more understanding.
Lucika Shen it’s different with the Chinese. Every Chinese person around a loud-speaking Chinese I saw was calm af, like it was normal (cause it is in certain cases). Plus, you can’t really ask the loud ones wtf is happening cause they’re usually the ones who don’t speak English. The ones who speak English are usually the well-mannered ones based on my experience.
@@jdb6026 Mmmm.... I sure hope we are loud on the internet, and making disrespectful videos to other countries, so we know that we are not welcomed and wouldn't let anyone earn money from us.
The only issues with mainland Chinese groups are the ones who come on big tours. The ones who come independently are polite and more aware of how to behave in foreign countries.
Eric C it’s because ones who come in tour groups are less educated because they’re not as well off. Ones who come independently have usually been educated abroad
Aj B Ones who travel independently have usually been educated abroad? That's not really true. The Chinese tourists who travel independently are often younger people who speak English, have higher education, are curious about foreign cultures and have taken the time to learn how to behave abroad. Some have likely been educated abroad, but many others were not. As a reference point I've been living in China for the past 13 years and many of my Chinese friends have traveled abroad. Few of them have a foreign education, but most of them did take the time to learn how to behave when outside their own country.
This tends to be the case with most tourists. If you spend more time planning and researching your trip it typically means you are more respectful and educated.
Those are all traits that need to be taught, but for a period of time in China (the Cultural Revolution years), they were abandoned. Thus, a whole generation of Chinese youngsters (who are now part of the older generation today) grew up without ever learning these qualities; instead, they've only retained their base "fight or flight" mentality.
@Central Intelligence Agency There is absolutely a lot of correlation between the CCP and rude Chinese tourists. When an entire generation is denied proper schooling at an age when they should've been in school and told to wreak havoc in the name of supporting a dying chairman, it's going to cause them to feel far more entitled for their entire lives than the previous and next generations, and we see it in these tourists. The idea that "nothing will change" is ridiculous; we're already seeing that change for the better in the younger generation as they're better equipped to understand the world from a younger age.
I'm in Toronto and I was downtown with some friends and I'm in a wheelchair,,,. A Chinese tourist just got in my face and started taking picture out of the blue.. i was so shocked, like i'm not a tourist attraction.
I had the same thing. I am a secondary school (high school student] and I was on a school trip with my class and my classmate told me that a Chinese person was taking pictures of me. I felt weird.
Wow. That happened to me in downtown LA and then the lady has the nerve to share her disappointment over the photo that I didn't even want to be in with her, smh.

lol lie? do you know how much a ticket from china to paris cost? its like around 1.5k USD. you know how much a mid tier hotel like ibis cost per night in paris 150 USD. staying 10 days would be 3k USD. lets put in 3k USD for travel expenses and shopping. thats still only 6k USD. having 6k USD is definitely not considered wealthy in most european country/america nor in most first / second tier cities in china. idk where you live. maybe 6K usd sounds like a million dollars where you live. but in china/ western countries, you do not have to be wealthy to travel. therefore I did not lie.
I dislike those people who spit on the ground no matter what nationality he is or what kind of culture he comes from. But I admit that most Chinese people does spitting a lot.
Watching this as a chinese American is so embarrassing. I'm going to France this summer and knowing that I'll be associated with mainland chinese tourists just makes me so embarrassed
Youll be fine, just remember your manners and before going at least know a little french. One of the things that bothers me about tourists the most are the ones who dont know a single word of the national language. They expect to be catered too. But im sure youll be fine, have fun!
Yah seems like most Chinese people born outside of China like HK,Taiwan Singapore etc don't want to be associated with main landers. I have been to China and the people are fine its a over hyped stereotype. Yes main landers can speak louder the other Asians like Japanese but I view as a cultural thing no big deal
So often, I have seen the remark along the line, "If you want their money, then don't complain." Isn't this irresponsible remark getting worn out and lame? This is nothing more than an excuse and rationalization for poor actions, disrespect, and bad behaviors. When a tourist/customer uses a facility or engages in a transaction, he/she also has a responsibility to uphold. If you come into my restaurant and spit on my floor in front of me and my customers, I do have a justifiable reason to complain given the appropriate opportunity. How would one expect bad behaviors to change if people don't complain and are expect to swallow their frustrations. It's a transactions between two parties, where both have responsibilities to uphold. Lastly, if one is a guest in a country one chooses to visit, one should not to be disrespectful. When visiting another country, the foreign visitors will be judged, justifiable or not. So try to be a good "ambassador" of your country. All of the above are just plain common sense.
I think people who give such comments like you are the very definition of bad educated and ignorant. in statistics theres a theorem called Bayes theorem. Its a shame that you never learnt that

Kudos to Al Jazeera English for doing this piece of investigative journalism. Until this video, I never understood why Chinese people travel and still have such a limited understanding of the countries they visited.
They don't have the same exposure as a westerner might have to France. They grow up seeing images of France and develop stereotypes of it being "romantic" etc because that's what they see. They might see many images of the Mona Lisa and understand that it's famous but not be aware of the history behind it and WHY it's famous, thus be disappointed by its small size. But by the same token, many westerners don't have much exposure to China and the East, and develop misinformed perceptions. I don't know many people that could recognise a famous Chinese painting let alone know anything about it. Chinese are stuck in their country's media bubble, as Americans are stuck in their media bubble, and many of us in the west aren't very educated about their culture and vice versa.
I agree, this is a very interesting and fair piece that does a good job of showing some of the effects of Chinese tourism. I wish I could say the same about most of the comments.
@@tylerliu2632 Actually he is 100% right. Democracy allows for more open-minded people who don't view all opposition as "brainwashed", because everybody is legally allowed to have and express their own opinion. On the other hand, in a suppressive form of government, the flow of information is always going to be more controlled and censored than those with democracy, and even though both sides monitor and control information flow, communist governments will have to do it significantly more to prevent opposing points of view from forming. People of communism and other suppressive forms of government are often more vulnerable to propaganda and being misinformed, since their media, education and economy all come from one single source, meaning whatever they say is true will often automatically be viewed by the public as true. In terms of manners, third world countries that value democracy such as India, Malaysia and Brazil all prove to be much more civilized and open minded than China, because they are not constantly fed pro-country propaganda and are able to acknowledge their struggles instead of pretending they don't exist
I'm Chinese born and raised in Hong Kong. My grandparents are originally from Mainland China. I think this video is so funny. The sisters from Shanghai are typical red army leftover from the cultural revolution era. Younger generation are mostly polite and well-mannered. We here in Hong Kong have the same problem with some ignorant and rude tourists from the mainland, but most Chinese tourists are pretty nice and are eager to be good tourists. The worst case scenario, we can always count on the Chinese gov't to stop issuing passport to those who misbehave. Give them another 10 years, and you will see the bad manner disappear. Chinese are fast learners. This is after all the first era when Mainland Chinese are given passports to see the world.
The Cultural Revolution has something to answer for this but the sudden riches to some of them during Deng's open door policy really make them that way.All of a sudden in a nano second they are somebody else.
The thing with news reports is basically summed up as: "It's never as bad or as good as they claimed to be". Some people only uses the bad part to justify their bigotry. But oh well.
Without being racist I met a few Chinese international student and I can tell honestly most of them are rude or simple impolite. No matter if they have lot of money or not. After being 4 years in the states they still didn't pick up and manner. Of course they are some exceptions but majority of these students are not adapting at all.
Here's the thing... even though the sample size of 'a few' is not really statistically significant, but because it happens close to you, those 'few' are swaying your opinion with greater effect than some hypothetical study on it.
The fact that they were so excited to see nature makes me happy I don't live in China. Just being in an industrial part of town for a few minutes makes me very depressed and anxious. I can't imagine having to grow up there.
There is actually a lot of beautiful nature in China. What makes the garden of Versailles special is the design, not necessarily the plants themselves.
Not all of China is industrial, just the big cities like Beijing shanghai guangzhou etc are horrible and polluted. Yunnan, Sichuan, guangxi, and xinjiang have some beautiful outstanding nature
When I went to Paris there was constantly Chinese tourists cutting the long restroom lines! Is it sooooo hard to just wait your turn! If you have a young child who really needs to use the restroom then you can ask the people in front of you if you can cut the line they will probably let you. Before I went to Paris I spent a lot of time learning French, researching French culture and what to do and what not to do in France why can’t they do the same!? Is it really so hard to be polite when visiting a foreign country!? Do they just not care!? When ever we were in big crowds there were Chinese tourists in big groups pushing us and nobody did anything! My brother even swore that he saw a Chinese tourist from a group try to reach in and touch a piece of art. I understand that they are a from a different culture but isn’t that just a better reason to take time to research French culture before going there!
I am mainland Chinese, when I worked as teacher at a university in Bogotá, the capital city of Colombia I also did a part-time job receiving a couple of Chinese tourists. Honestly, compared to individual tourists, the majority of whom chose to travel to South America because of the fascinating culture, the tour groups were basically ill-mannered and they were not really that interested in Colombian history and culture. I reckon they came to South America just because the more faraway their destination is, the richer they will be considered by their peer - because they barely listened to me when I tried to explain the traditions and history of Bogotá and other areas, like Boyacá. And when it comes to tour group, most Chinese tourists chose it because of the language barrier and lack of intercultural experiences, which resulted that they were mainly middle-aged people who lived in the epoch without systemic education. So, it was not rare to find them talk extremely loud without paying attention to the guide’s advice, spit to the grass and cut line in the queue. And in China, criticising frequently someone older than you can be considered inappropriate. I did appreciate the good manner that the current Chinese youngsters showed (the majority), but I really felt that it would be urgent and necessary to give an etiquette class to the elder generation tourists before their tour.
I was in China back in '99 - 1st time. I was walking out of my hotel one morning and noticed a really gorgeous looking woman. So, I started walking to her and hope to stir up a conversation. As I approached about 10 feet away, she made the most horrendous guzzling noise and spat whatever she had in her throat onto the carpet floor of the hotel lobby. My 10feet walking towards her had turned into me running away in the opposite direction.
Albert Lima Lima Right on bro, only 2 billion asians in the world so we need to watch out to keep the race clean! extinction is basically right around the corner
Oh god, I experienced so much second hand cringe. My dad (he's from Hong Kong though, not sure if this counts) says it's the newly rich that mostly cause all this trouble because they were born as peasants, only to have a windfall of money fall on them, but never learned manners. But that one Chinese man that she followed was very nice! He reminds me of my dad.
yes, this happens in many cultures ... for example, you can take the peasant out of China, but you can't take China out of the peasant... and yes, that man she followed was very sweet ... it was like watching a kid in a candy store ... the rest is forgiven just so that man could have his dream come true :)
I would not say that Hong Kongers are well mannerd, I would say Hong Kongers are better mannered than the mainland Chinese, but when you take a ride by MTR or bus you hardly will see younger people standing up and offering a place th the eldery who have to stand and most parents chese ther youngsters in the MTR in order to reserve a seat. Go to Bangkok such behaviour you hardly will see there.
I work in NYC and Chinese tourists are the main clients for many companies now. However, they are the worst tourists you can imagine. Not all of them, but many are rude, loud, and dirty. They simply squat, spit and smoke anywhere they want. They simply do not care for what you think of them. Their biggest issue is that they think their money means they can do whatever they want. Like I said, not all, but there's numerous incidents of shameful behavior by the Chinese. I've never see tourists from EU, Japan, Korea, Brazil, Middle East, etc. act this way.
Very sorry for that, Lots of Chinese didn't get well educated as they become rich. I admit that we have the wrong behaviors. It's a shame on all of Chinese. Things will change better in the future. Just feel sorry for that.
Here's a tip to Locals: Peoe don't go to your country to listen to you speak their language. Keep your french lifestyle, culture, and ways of life, we will appreciate it more.
He is a very kind and humble Chinense, I actually like him, he is quite different from other Chinese tourists, but I think with a foreign journalist they behave better
They don't have a lot churches so when they see one, they're excited. They see it more as an architectural marvel as opposed to a religious monastery. The tourist guide should educate them better before entering.
They talk in their temples...They will talk almost anywhere. Even during an orchestra or Opera. They haven't been taught the value of art etc after all the books were destroyed in the Cultural Revolution. They were taught to obey the system and toil the lands until they overcame that difficult time. Now the culture is changing with the younger generations.
@@Trgn Italy, Romania, France, Greece, etc. etc. Mostly Mediterranean and East European countries. Western European and Scandinavian countries aren't too bad.
thousands of years ago, the chinese people were one of the most cultured people, with philosophers like confucius, laozi, mencius, etc. what happened? my best guess: the CCP. while they ruled the country, they made sure the chinese people under their control lose all forms of ancient teachings. they burned books, destroyed ancient heritage, banned religions. just take a look at the chinese people who were never under the CCP rule, chinese in hong kong, chinese in taiwan, chinese in singapore, chinese in malaysia, etc. they behave so differently from the chinese people in china.
Interesting point. It is still not clear from the studies yet though if Japan and Korean people descended from mainland chinese ancestors or whether they initially shared the same culture but then evolved due to the separation of geography. However there are specific anecdotes I've read such as scholars from Japan travelling to China to learn the techniques of forging the Tao sword which they later adapted and improved to create a better version of it - Sumarai Sword.
How about a hundred year ago, when there is no CCP in China? You think Chinese were very good at that time?It ia true that CCP made some bad moves in the past. But if you try to blame CCP for everything, that is quite unwise.
One of the biggest fear for us East and South East Asian who happens to looks like Chinese is we’re most fear for ppl will think that we’re Chinese when we travel in Europe or USA many of my friends esp girls have to wear Korean and Thai and Japan hat or their national identity to be just comfortable and dare to step out of their rooms.
This is absurd. Chinese tourists go to France and what do they find most interesting? Sights? Restaurants? Night life? No, it's clean water and clean air... This is so sad.

In Philippines, went to see tarsiers who are nocturnal so you have to be very quiet during the day when around them. Just 1-2 Chinese families with 2 kids screaming, tour guides telling them to be quiet -- nothing, they just looked around and kids kept screaming. From this I understand that most Mainland Chinese respect nothing, you have to punch them in the face to make them understand. No wonder China is so polluted with no wildlife left.
Search catch butterflies you'd be surprised there's even a page on wikihow teaching you ways to catch butterflies. And there are specialists who teach children how to catch their own butterflies using butterfly nets.So it's not a Chinese only thing.
21:45 This reminded me of my trip to Japan 2 years ago. One tour bus pulled up to the curb in one district of Tokyo, 6 shop attendant came out the store very quickly and formed TWO lines going out from the entrance, one line on each side. The 6 shop attendants extended their arms side-way, locking hands with the next attendant to form walls. Then, a wave of obnoxiously loud people came crashing out of the bus, being pushed into the store between the 2 human walls formed by the 6 attendants. Like animals being prodded into their cage. That was a sight I'll never forget.
I went to the Lake District in England to find thousands of Chinese people with cameras complaining to store owners and saw a Chinese kid about the age of 8 kicking a swan and his parents just allowing it.(edit) also some asking for expensive stuff for free

I can so relate to this, I am an Indian and have traveled Europe and China in similar tour packages. Just like the Chinese, the Indian groups are also noisy, cluttered and more than arrogant are just ignorant of rules. However, young people like me are more sensitive to local etiquette and manners. We don't want the world to become homogeneous in customs and traditions. That would be boring. But basic etiquette and civic sense should be imposed autocratically.
Dude Al Jazeera is a news Chanel run for Islamic propaganda They hate all non-Muslims Did you notice they never run anything remotely close to terrorism and anti-Islamic
Tushar Chatterjee Odd, in my town we get many Indian tourists due to our temple and they are very respectful, the only annoying thing is some when they get tired of trying to walk to our temple they will try to hitchhike lifts there.
Chinese tourist can you not talk too loud when you’re in a foreign land and be respectful and have manners, stop giving a bad image for other asians in the western world please, you can learn some good manners from japanese tourist
Being in China as a foreign exchange student it changed my perspective so much. There's just so many people that manners do more harm than good on the streets here. Even I now regularly drop politeness simply to be able to get on the subway during peek hours. They are horrible tourists but really as people they just don't know any better, they live in a different world from ours XD
That’s an excuse. I used to think that way, that the Chinese behave that way cause of the population until I went to Hong Kong. One of the most densely populated cities in the world, but good manners were everywhere, if not, then probably a mainlander. Lol
@@mikebudimir1244 Hong Kong did not experience the Cultural Revolution. I'd guess a lot of the behaviorism is not even actual Chinese culture but due to the massive changes and upheavals in Chinese society for the past century which uprooted society from the until then followed norms.

I've acted as a tour guide for my visiting Chinese in-laws. . It is kind of stressful. I was expected to have every minute planned and we were not to spend too long at any one place. Unlike these tourists. . nobody wanted to spend any money for admissions, restaurants or museums. They were more interested in "clear water" blue skies and natural things. . but didn't like the intense sun and mosquitoes that comes with natural places in Canada. There is to be no repetition either. . I ended up going alone to see Mont Morency Falls in Quebec City because "THey already saw Niagara Falls so it is not special".

Most of them does not really care about the Dos & Don’ts in a particular country. Spitting in public is common and I would say that it’s one of the bad habits which these Chinese carries with them wherever they are. Thanks to the China ‘tour guide’ lady. The Truth Not only tourist, but even the people. A few months ago, 4 people (3 from Mainland China, and 1 from Hongkong) are arrested by Bogor Police because not only working illegally in Indonesia, but even the worst is they're planting a toxic chili.
Not hard to understand!! Just ignore everything and everyone's feeling and just do what you want, it there nature to be selfish and inconsiderate. So if you are not mainland chinese, well you can't do it.
Yeah most Asian countries are and that's why they hate the Chinese LOL. You look at all these countries full of nice people like Filipinos and Taiwanese and Japanese and Korean and Thai. And then you've got this f****** land of the rudest people on Earth.
I feel a little guilty about it, but I really do enjoy when Asians come to Europe (especially Paris) with the illusion they are going to live a romantic fairy tale, just to get their bubble bursted.
Sadly it happens so much more for Japanese tourist than Chinese tourists. Because like what you saw in this video, Chinese people go there to take pictures and say “ I was here”. But Japanese tourists usually go to feel the romantic atmosphere... which there is and not at the same time. It smells bad, it’s dirty, there is trash on the street, people are rude (mostly rude people in Paris). So compare Paris to China and I cannot imagine how China ( guessing mainland China) is, probably worse than Paris.
@@lokikuro4236 Obviously, China is too huge to generalize, but for the most part, Chinese cities operate under what can best be described as "controlled chaos." Everyone's always moving and not waiting around, but because everyone knows this, they know how to avoid confrontation. It seems rude to outsiders, but in a country of 1.4 billion, stopping to say "excuse me" would mean never getting anything done.
I used to wonder about that in the 1980's Japanese tourists came calling to Hawaii in search of designer goods. They stayed in hotels and traveled in buses owned by Japanese companies. Japanese food is/was de riguer.
because for the first time they can afford it and from western civilization they got the impression to be on that level you need to travel around. You simply have to consider they are not much different from western countries 60 years ago when travel became the normal then and actual interest in foreign cultures really came far later.

My Mom often says that people in big groups behave more badly. It's the group mentality that applies to all nationalities. However, as someone who has run into Chinese tourists in several countries, I must admit that there's truth to their bad reputations. In one trip to Japan, I was physically pushed (almost hit my head once) and lost my place while waiting in line in the restroom, at the airport, at the tax-free stores, and at the restaurants. These encountered almost ruined an otherwise perfect and peaceful trip. I've seen other groups behaving badly but Chinese seem to be on another level. I've met nice Chinese tourists before but they were hard to find. As an Asian myself, I sometimes hope the locals don't mistake me for a Chinese. I cannot imagine what decent Chinese feel and think about their fellow tourists.
Most of the tourists In these groups don't actually appreciate the art. You run in, take a pic of the mona Lisa, and then run out. For them.its about the instagram bragging rights, not the experience.
The issue with a lot of older Chinese is that they either grew up during or were heavily influenced by the Cultural Revolution, when the government actively encouraged people to stay in that "fight or flight" mentality we're all expected to grow out of as we mature. Thus, many of these older tourists interpret every word against them as a challenge and view every moment as a chance to assert their dominance. Notice how we almost never see this from younger Chinese tourists?
as a chinese person i have to say i was a bit annoyed because of how they forced chinese culture and norms into other countries but eh its ok they're not used to using forks and knives to eat so

I am HKer myself, the worst thing is the media only report "bad" mainland tourist and the HKers assume all of them are bad.
So Chinese tourists go to France to buy & eat Chinese food?
That's like me going to India and asking for steak & mashed potatoes.
Your analogy to India is a bit worse. Cows are sacred in India it's like eating Jesus.
People eat Beef in India, just in low numbers and among more specific people. Not everyone is Hindu.................
LOl I've seen American tourists do that before, so yeah, I guess that's pretty universal
OMG this is too funny!

Your explanation makes a lot of sense and adds some necessary context to the video. Thnx!
yeah right.
I can imagine that clearly lol

HK is part of China but it's own region. Plus most HK locals are well mannered.

Here in the Philippines, they keep shouting inside the churches. Like wtf? what if we go to your temples and do the same? LOL
They don't have a lot churches so when they see one, they're excited. They see it more as an architectural marvel as opposed to a religious monastery. The tourist guide should educate them better before entering.
There are millions of Christians in China too. Probably as many as in Philippines.
They talk in their temples...They will talk almost anywhere. Even during an orchestra or Opera. They haven't been taught the value of art etc after all the books were destroyed in the Cultural Revolution. They were taught to obey the system and toil the lands until they overcame that difficult time. Now the culture is changing with the younger generations.

thousands of years ago, the chinese people were one of the most cultured people, with philosophers like confucius, laozi, mencius, etc. what happened? my best guess: the CCP. while they ruled the country, they made sure the chinese people under their control lose all forms of ancient teachings. they burned books, destroyed ancient heritage, banned religions. just take a look at the chinese people who were never under the CCP rule, chinese in hong kong, chinese in taiwan, chinese in singapore, chinese in malaysia, etc. they behave so differently from the chinese people in china.
that what communism does for ya.

Last time I was in Cancun a lot of the locals told me they didn't like the Chinese tourists due to being rude and particularly loud

This reminded me of my trip to Japan 2 years ago.

Put any middle class group of any nationality in a bus, you'll have obnoxious tourists.

I travelled with a Chinese tour group to New York several years ago from Canada. It was a pleasant trip and all of the tourists were well behaved
