It was a foul in the box yes but Roger’s fouled Anderson too, imagine if they scored the pen and then had to check the build up to the goal and then disallow it cause the rogers foul. I don’t think VAR should of tried to say it’s not a penalty should of just said foul was was in the lead up so the fouls in the box wouldn’t count, like they tried to check for Liverpools red card if there was an offside before. Shouldn't even be that! Even that overcomplicates it. In a game where you want more goals not fewer, the question should be, is there a gap between the attacker and the last defender. If not, then the attacker is on. All VAR would have to determine is, was there a gap. Simple. If defenders want to gamble and try to push up and spring a "trap" just prior to the pass being made, fine. If they don't get it right, then there will be more 1v1s with the GK. Nothing wrong with that.

No one talks about what frame the line is drawn on, it can make a huge difference if they take it from when the passer first touches the ball or when released, to make it clear, they should try and find a frame that gives the advantage to the attacking team as they told us they would.
What isn’t said enough on these VAR offside decisions is when the ball actually leaves the players foot. Do they get that exactly right? The time difference in when the ball leaves the foot makes a huge difference when talking about being offside by millimeters.
Why don’t they just forget the body and use the feet as offside? You run with your feet, so what if your leaning slightly more than a defender. You might be 6 inches taller than them and 10inches wider

@Parky_1712 I don't think that's particularly relevant TBH. I just feel like conceptually, you are where your feet are. If someone leans in a certain way when they run I don't really care. In othet sports you can be "in bounds" with your feet but still make a legal play with your hands that would out of bounds, and it take a massive amount of skill and body control to make sure you keep your feet in position, so I'm happy to have players try to do that. I think the "you can score with x body part" has been parroted so often that people have come to treat it as prime directive number 1 when really, it's inconsequential. It also gives you a somewhat clearer and less faffy place to put the line, at the players toe. It won't solve everything, but it would get rid of this absolutely ridiculous armpit/sleeve argument.

The angle used to GUESS where the players are is off to the side and not in line. Why do you think the assitant referees always try to make sure they're in line with the last man? It's so they can look straight across the pitch IN LINE with the players so that they can make a clear decision. If the assistant is 5 yards in front of the last defender from his angle he would be more likely to judge an attacker offside because of perspective. It's a flawed system!

Cash was looking for a free kick that was a 50-50, rightly not given. The pen call was just about short enough to be called fleeting contact, seen the same thing in other games so why should Villa be any different. Cash was looking for a free kick that was a 50-50, rightly not given. The pen call was just about short enough to be called fleeting contact, seen the same thing in other games so why should Villa be any different.
