Wood's shouldn't be offside. It's too close to call clearly so give the attacker the benefit of the doubt. So with that, Forest scored THREE goals in, what, 8 minutes? Shocking defending from Villa. Brilliant energy and pressure from Forest.

If you haven’t, you should watch “footballs greatest teams” the Nottingham forest one. Clough’s team was a top side.

Best side we've had in my lifetime was the one Clough and Taylor put together, which won back to back European Cups(78/79). In the 70s and 80s English clubs won 7 out of 8 , (6 in a row!!)
I'm 57 a liverpool fan mate, believe me when I say that Cloughies team will never be surpassed they were incredible.

As a Villa fan, we should've had a pen, a worldy goal by Duran and an unbelieveable, out of this world save by Emi and we still lost, that about sums up our season so far.
But hats off to Forest, it was a harsh offside to them and they deserved the win for how they especially upped their intensity in the last 15 mins or so and for the key subs they made. Hope they get Europe...
It was a foul in the box yes but Roger’s fouled Anderson too, imagine if they scored the pen and then had to check the build up to the goal and then disallow it cause the rogers foul. I don’t think VAR should of tried to say it’s not a penalty should of just said foul was was in the lead up so the fouls in the box wouldn’t count, like they tried to check for Liverpools red card if there was an offside before. Feel like I’m waffling now hope you get what I’m trying to say tho aha

Forest fan - agree you should have had a pen. But equally, it was a foul on Anderson immediately before, so that should have been a free kick and then the pen worthy foul in the box wouldn’t have happened. But if we agree woods goal was a goal, it was clearly a bad day for VAR! (Again!) 🙄 I think overall we were good for the win and the result was right tho. Good luck for the rest of the season - it was a great match 👍🏻

The on-field decision was no offside. So VAR should ONLY rule it out if they are clearly and obviously offside. That was not a clear and obvious error.

@kevinlinley3273 Forest are on a good run, what more do you want? Took villa an entire campaign and champions league qualification to get some credit. It's taken Brighton and Bournemouth several seasons of playing good football and getting results to get some credit. What have forest done comparatively speaking really?

Shouldn't even be that! Even that overcomplicates it. In a game where you want more goals not fewer, the question should be, is there a gap between the attacker and the last defender. If not, then the attacker is on. All VAR would have to determine is, was there a gap. Simple. If defenders want to gamble and try to push up and spring a "trap" just prior to the pass being made, fine. If they don't get it right, then there will be more 1v1s with the GK. Nothing wrong with that.

What isn’t said enough on these VAR offside decisions is when the ball actually leaves the players foot. Do they get that exactly right? The time difference in when the ball leaves the foot makes a huge difference when talking about being offside by millimeters.
Justice served in the end, VAR is a joke and it's killing the game !
No one talks about what frame the line is drawn on, it can make a huge difference if they take it from when the passer first touches the ball or when released, to make it clear, they should try and find a frame that gives the advantage to the attacking team as they told us they would.
Why don’t they just forget the body and use the feet as offside? You run with your feet, so what if your leaning slightly more than a defender. You might be 6 inches taller than them and 10inches wider

That was ridiculous to disallow that VAR is ruining the game... they stopped the game for around 5 mins just to find any way possible to disallowed the goal
Funny thing is that delay to debate millimeters off or on contributed to the 7 min MF needed to win the game in extra time!
VAR is there for Refereeing Howlers. That was too tight like many others to overturn.
Just a note and proof that being a Tottenham manager diminishes your qualities. Nuno is fantastic here and he's still the same manager.
VAR is so frustrating. It is basically there to TRY AND FIND a reason to disallow a goal, opposed to checking on a clear incident. Killing the game, indeed!

Some insane Reffing decisions this match, should have been a Villa penalty, Forest 2nd goal off the back of a foul, VAR ruling out a goal for millimeters again when the on field decision was Onside. What happened to "Clear and Obviously wrong"? Thrilling match though, Martinez is something else! A Forest fan.
I feel like we need something like "Umpire's Call" in VAR, if the lines are touching, onfield decision stands.
Not a Penalty at all, due to the Forest player being clearly fouled a few seconds before. The Forest second goal not a foul at all, Cash was outmuscled when trying to trap and shield the ball. Wood's goal should have stood. Have a nice day evening :)
@mattybob12310 If you're offside by 'millimeters', you're offside and that's clearly a wrong decision by the on field ref, simple as that
And there is a threshold built in with offside's that if the lines are touching, it's onside, but they weren't touching with this one
@@mattybob12310 if the pen was given from the on field ref it would have been overturned due to var having to check the lead up (so forest free kick) just like Robertson red card if the player that was fouled was offside they would have over turned the card and played it from the offside (also a forest fan)

@Parky_1712 I don't think that's particularly relevant TBH. I just feel like conceptually, you are where your feet are. If someone leans in a certain way when they run I don't really care.
In othet sports you can be "in bounds" with your feet but still make a legal play with your hands that would out of bounds, and it take a massive amount of skill and body control to make sure you keep your feet in position, so I'm happy to have players try to do that.
I think the "you can score with x body part" has been parroted so often that people have come to treat it as prime directive number 1 when really, it's inconsequential.
It also gives you a somewhat clearer and less faffy place to put the line, at the players toe. It won't solve everything, but it would get rid of this absolutely ridiculous armpit/sleeve argument.
@JoshHenderson16 I get the logic, but it those sports, the ball is only out of bounds once it touches the floor over the line, but that isn't the case in football
So being able to be offside by 'leaning' ahead of the defender makes sense in that regard
And with all that, conceptually, you aren't where your feet are in football.
Imagine you score a diving header (Gakpo-esque), and your whole body is offside bar your toes, that wouldn't make it any less 'faffy', would be just changing the parameters
Or if you score by outstretching one leg 3/4 yards further than the other, which foot would you use to draw the line? Because you can't 'be where your feet are' when they're in 2 separate places
@JoshHenderson16 and even in the Elanga example, it still would've been incredibly difficult to judge if his feet were ahead of the Villa defenders because they were all pretty much in line with each other
It was only for the Digne crouching down a bit that it lined up with Elanga leaning
So like I said, it'd be the same faff, but just moving where you have to draw the lines

Saw this video, not seen the VAR decision and my first thought was "I bet the camera angle is not in line with the players as usual". So I went and found the highlights and guess what? The angle used to GUESS where the players are is off to the side and not in line. Therefore the human being that's trying to pin the tail on the player is trying to make the decision from a false viewpoint. Why do you think the assitant referees always try to make sure they're in line with the last man? It's so they can look straight across the pitch IN LINE with the players so that they can make a clear decision. If the assistant is 5 yards in front of the last defender from his angle he would be more likely to judge an attacker offside because of perspective. It's a flawed system!

Cash was looking for a free kick that was a 50-50, rightly not given. The pen call was just about short enough to be called fleeting contact, seen the same thing in other games so why should Villa be any different.
