Im binge watching this series for the 2nd time .. but this time with a friend .. watching on Acorn in 2023 . Its been about 7 yrs since I last watched this fantastic series and Im loving it just as much as the 1rst time . My friend is hooked, as well ! We"re in season 4 now .. and I hate the thoughts of it ending .. The USA , does not have anything to compare to this interesting , well acted , edge of your seat series .. Every other word in our shows are the F word , so boring and lowlife ... the dialog in A Place to Call Home is brilliant and interesting .. Plus the casting was superb ! Congratulations to everyone involved .. and Please give the world another excellent series to enjoy !!😢

Marta, you were right - I cried like a baby at the end. Beautiful series! I fell in love with the whole story - from start to finish - as well as the characters. Even Regina redeemed herself by the end. Beautiful writing, exemplary acting - best series I've seen in a long, long time (just finished it yesterday 2/24/22).

Saying goodbye to these characters was not easy. Actually it was devastating. What a great show

I binged watched APTCH during the pandemic. What good luck. So intelligent and beautifully written, shot and produced. Of course I love them all. (Except Regina). Exceptional constant performances. Thank God for lower key Aussie taste and talent. Such a relief from American crass, slick films and tv.

Incredible show - recommended to me this Christmas by my Australian cousin. Thank you Lisl, thank you Australian television and amazing actors, esp (but not only!) Noni Hazlehurst and Marta Husseldorp. Bravo!

Just finished watching this wonderful series. Kudos to all the actors - you were all wonderful. If I could choose a favourite it would have to be Doris. What a fantastic show. Thank you to all. ❤

It was by pure accident that I flicked through the channels on a Friday night and recognized Brett Climo from his A Country Practice and The Flying Doctors days. I couldn't wait any longer to find out what happens next and I binged the entire series in the space of 8 days. Can't remember that last time a show stuck with me as this has done. Going through the pandemic, I think I needed something to jolt me from my slump and this series has done that. The show is such a delight from the storylines, cast and beautiful scenery. I particularly loved Sarah and George's story and the chemistry between Brett and Marta.....they are what drew me into the show and I am immensely thankful for getting to enjoy a truly marvelous experience!!! Just beautiful......you won't regret checking it out.

I love all of these actors and characters so much. I just know that this last series is going to be a beautiful but very emotional one. I think I will need boxes of tissues with every episode. I will be forever grateful for discovering this series and will enjoy it for many more years to come, just watching & re-watching it.

They finished the whole series very nicely, good endings for all the characters and appropriate ones too. I loved especially Henry and Harry still being together in 2018 and finally able to legally marry in their 90s, and Sarah making it to age 104.

Oh boy! I don't think tissues will do - better get kitchen rolls in! I am feeling the emotion from the actors descriptions - what will season 6 do for us ?- make us sad but happy I guess. Thanks for an emotional roller coaster of utter acting bliss.

Several years ago I caught part of the series on American public TV. I live in a rural area with spotty channel reception and missed a lot of the series. A few months ago I binge watched the series from start to finish via Amazon Prime. There are so many wonderful aspects to this series that others have already highlighted so I wanted to comment on a few of the characters. I just binge watched the series a second time and I wonder if I was supposed to be disappointed with several of the characters-James and Olivia in particular. My own 30+ year marriage ended similarly to theirs; I felt strong empathy for them in the beginning. I respected Oliva’s growing strength but the girl does cry a lot. A LOT. I was especially let down when James left Henry in the dark about his changed feelings. James returned from France a changed man and not necessarily in a good way. He was a coward and hurt someone who didn’t deserve it, then pretty much shrugged off responsibility. Olivia buying someone else’s baby in order to deceive James with the “best” of intentions made her as bad as the rest of the Bligh’s. Sure, they’re angry at first but then they make Georgie their secret because they loved him. So Matthew comes on scene and the writer makes him bear the brunt of responsibility for his and Olivia’s falling away when it’s Olivia and the Bligh’s themselves who have concealed a criminal act to protect their own interests. Yes, Matt’s high expectations would have been difficult to meet but to pat Olivia on the back and send Matt packing was unreasonable and pandering to the power of the Bligh’s who turned against Matt. He was well rid of them.
Elizabeth proved the potential in her character to grow. Best overall character development. Sarah, I cared about her character but I am reserved about the writer’s choices to allow her to conceal burying a body even for the best of intentions. The writer made her judge and jury in that situation which made her a hypocrite when she berated others for behavior she deemed unacceptable. George was the weakest character of all and how Sarah could have been charmed by him I’ll never understand. George wasn’t man enough for Sarah. What a shame the writer didn’t give him more religious convictions so that Sarah’s sense of fairness could be tested. The writer made it easy for Sarah to create a Jewish household almost without a whimper. That’s not anti-Jewish, it’s a statement of George’s lack of any real convictions. Regina deserved a better ending. She was the one person who changed the most yet in the end she was simply a plot device and booted out of existence, much like Rose was used. Olivia is forced to acknowledge Georgie’s natural mother then dumps Matt for putting her in that position and then crows about getting rid of him before she made a mistake. Yet Regina turns her life around, offers reparations and then when they should have extended a genuine olive branch the writers have her take her own life. Kind of makes Jack’s later on attempts to create counseling for men and women a patronizing turn. Someone should have felt remorse for Regina. But, it’s a story about the self-absorbed Bligh’s, right?
It’s not that I expected the characters to be perfect but they needed to own their mistakes with a more profound sense of regret. Instead, they hide behind their Bligh privilege. The one person who didn’t change? Harry. Because he didn’t need to. He was always comfortable with who he was and was perhaps the kindest of them all.
It’s still a great show I’ll enjoy watching again.

@@amelianewell-close2196 It's my understanding the series had been cancelled so when it was renewed the show creator may not have had enough time to create new content with strong footing. It's probably difficult to work with a story set in the past with culture so different from the present. There's the temptation to imbue the historical characters with attitudes that show growth not typically seen back then. I can see the birth of changes beginning in the family but I think he was too kind to a few of the characters. He should have given them the slap in the face they deserved. But I also had the feeling that he was expunging some of his own negative feelings of personal situations through the characters, punishing some that really didn't deserve it and rewarding some who deserved punishment. All hindsight, of course. Still a great series I will enjoy watching again.

I recall Sarah 'reflecting over her life journey' as an elderly lady at the end of Season 1 / 2 > telling a broken story of "A Place to Call Home" > does Bevan finish this reflection / summary off at the end finale of Season 6 ?

Yes what did happen, it was a strange clip seeing into the future. It was to do with the body in the lake that she had helped hide with Roy.
