2:22 Nice my comment got mentioned! 🎉 And yes I'm your friend Chris rofl 😂. Yeah that blew my mind too. Especially when you guys talked about how they spent over a million dollars on the molds JUST to cut corners on some crucial mechanism components. Those bean counters are the real threat, maybe they worked for Cobra? 🤔 10:49 I remember seeing these in the pamphlets back then and I thought it was a cool idea but I never got any until I was a collector. This combined with the Cobra Stellar Stiletto space ship and the Defiant it seems like Hasbro was teasing Star Brigade for a while. And yes that 93 v2 is good. 15:07 Never had this figure but he's decked out with a TON of gear. Blizzard's accessory count is why Hasbro cut the metal gears for the Defiant crawler 😂. Love the blue visor and the ski sled. 19:34 Budo is another awesome looking figure, I didn't have nkm back then or now but I definitely need to track one down. He's a fun figure. 20:58 Didn't have this guy, own him now but I love that helmet. I loved G.I. Joes that had removable helmets or cool sculpted helmets cause they looked like robots to me, I'd probably have liked him had someone gave him to me. 22:55 I'm not a sports fan & I wasn't as a kid, but I really enjoy seeing these G.I. Joe sports themed figures. This guy is loaded with explosives, he better watch out no one shoots that backpack of his or be might take the whole squad out. 25:14 Never had him, didn't dig the regular military style guys but he has green "skin" plus that string and hook, so he might have made the team for me. 28:00 I wanted this one SO BAD as a kid. I loved monsters, creatures and water toys so it completely shocks me that I never got at least ONE Hydro-Viper back then. I have about 3 of them for a little scuba assassin team for Cobra and I love them. Such a great design, so fun and including a "pet" as a Manta ray? Chef's kiss. 32:50 I had one of these guys but would never troop build any of these as a kid. I don't know if I couldn't convince my parents to buy me the same figure more then once, but it's still a great stand alone figure by itself. I loved the little red laser gun too, and I wish he had a real sword too. 34:32 Never got him as a kid, definitely seems like the replacement for old Tripwire. Crazy color scheme, I own one now & he's fun. Also his colors are VERY close to Scoop and I constantly mistake one for the other. Also I don't think having 3 grenades stuck to his chest is the best idea. 36:51 A kick board, a shotgun and a machete? Yeah he's an odd one. His Battle Corps version from '93 is so different you'd think they were 2 different figures. 37:43 Yeah I wasn't a regular army guy kind of Joe kid, so this dude didn't even show up on my radar. His gun is probably the best part about him. 39:45 Never had him but he's always stuck out in my mind because he has a CINDER BLOCK on a STICK as a weapon. I have the Sonic Fighters Road Pig now whom I nicknamed "California Beach Road Pig" due to his tan and neon colors. He's a good addition to the Dreadnoks for sure. 42:15 Didn't have him, don't own him but his outfit and colors always stuck in my head so I know who the guy is. 43:36 I had this guy and he was never my favorite, so I'm thinking he might have been a gift from someone & not something I chose to buy. The Max Bobcat was the only thing that I liked but neither of them got alot of playtime. 47:27 I didn't get into G.I. Joe until sometime in 1986 so I never knew the v1 Storm Shadow, so this was the only version I knew about. Never owned him, still don't but I'd definitely grab this given the chance. 50:37 My friend had this one and gave it to me, which I still own today. We loved this figure because of that insane helmet and putting red on the front always made us think they were giant lips.😂 Love this figure. 53:50 I had this figure and loved this guy as a kid. I didn't have a Destro, but he was always in command of the Iron Grenadiers figures I have. Also I nominate this vulture's name as "Baron Von Stickerfingers". 55:45 Never even knew Night Force was a thing until the internet & I was a collector. I think the vehicles and the figures are neat but not enough to own. The Glow in the Dark bits are cool for a toy as there wasn't alot of GitD stuff back then. Also Sneak Peek is supposed to be Stephen King's son who was HUGE into G.I. Joe back then. His file card even lists his home as Bangore Maine. 58:39 Never had Tiger Force stuff either, but some of the figures are slick. 1:01:53 No that wasn't me rofl, it must have been Carson he'd definitely know something like that. 1:04:08 I think there's lore that explains the Tiger Force coloring. I know the Python Patrol color scheme on the vehicles is for anti-radar or something. 1:10:37 It has to be your normal outfit Dan, but just make it in Tiger colors where the pants don't match. 1:12:02 I always wanted this chrome Captain America wacko. Still don't have him today but I'd definitely pick him up given the chance. It's a cool concept for a figure. 1:13:35 Vac metal works best on ABS aka that harder plastic (helmet, shield, gun, torso) so if there's no moving parts there on the Classifieds version I could see it working. Great following along with you guys, definitely '87 and '88 were my two big years for Joe when I was a kid. When we get to the vehicles next week I'll be jumping into the comments section to share some more. 1:20:11 Nice! I'll have to check it out Dan. The unproduced Series 2 Pirates of Dark Water toys were insane but STILL no Tula. 🤦
I am loving this GI Joe stuff. I was born in 1983, so GI Joe had kind of run its course before I was into all of the toys. I was into Ghostbusters and TMNT back then. But as I’ve gotten older, I wish I was into the Joes. But I’ve found 2 treasures at Goodwill’s within the last few months, the APC and the Mobat, then around Christmas I found a decent Skystriker at an antique store. Just wish the figures were more affordable because I’ve been spoiled with finding cool vehicles!
88 was still putting out some bangers. I didn't even realize it. Loved me some Iron Grenadiers. I never had any Tiger Force but I love me some Tiger Force
*All* of Super Troopers parts ate reused from other figures (except the shield and body armor). He is made from Knockdown (head), Outback (torso), Wet Suit (arms), Zandar (lower body), Dialtone (gun) and Law (helmet). Very low effort from Hasbro. But it mostly works!
I was 12 that year and still felt the urge to see what G.I.Joe was up to I only managed to get four Joe's four 4 Cobras that year and bought the only vehicle Swampmasher for the sole purpose of getting the insert checklist booklet. Back then we had no idea of store exclusives that I actually thought TRU's Night Force was a preview of what to look for in the 1989 wave.
As a professional GI Joe booster in his youth I’d like to know what Dans strategy would be if he was a kid today trying to get the 5 finger discount…I also stole my fair share of Joes as a kid couldn’t imagine trying to be stealth stealing a classified figure with all that plastic securing everything…..Also can’t wait till u get to 91 with the greatest figure V4 SE….Dont trash him!
A lot of us that collected didn’t know about the night force because it was not in the catalogues. Other wise we would have been all over those Exclusives. Just failed advertising I guess.
The gap was mostly 2 years. The Action Force name being phased out began late 89 when the 1990 figure line was released. By 1991 the Action Force name was used only in Nordic markets and IIRC Germany
Another great episode, gents! GI Joe is the 'Epic of Gilgamesh' of toy lines. Are you ploughing all the way through or taking a breather for a standalone episode at some point?
This episode was worth it to hear Dan say “ he has an awful big hose on him”
Love that most of this episode is Dan’s Fashion Police lol
New podcast incoming called The Shoplifter’s Guide to Toy Collecting

Cobra would have use Edison Coils great show guys,
I wish at 1:15:50 dan larson would say "sausage party" as opposed to "lack of focus" lolz
You guys are hilarious! Very much enjoyed watching the show. Can't find the episodes part 1of 87, and did yall do 84-86?
As an audio podcast, but Jay is planning to upload the previous episodes as videos eventually.
Wait a sec - you're airing these in video format now? Excellent!!

Had the astro viper when it came out, the helmet is what made it for me
'welcome to the GI Joe, express yourself, you must wear 10 pieces of flare'

Yeah and I had a Toys R Us nearby and I never saw them.
Fun Fact: Tiger Force was inspired by 'Tiger Beat' magazine, since Tigers 🐅 was part of the pop culture lexicon.
The gap was mostly 2 years. The Action Force name being phased out began late 89 when the 1990 figure line was released. By 1991 the Action Force name was used only in Nordic markets and IIRC Germany

Taking a breather after the 80s, I don't know when we would dive into the 90s but we will at some point lol
Awesome. Yeah a breather is a good idea. Loving the show
Tiger Force was my Joe entry point!
1988: The Year of the Tiger (Force)
Found you... Nice try hiding the podcast on UA-cam 😊
Haha my buddy and I swiped a few of those guys
🎉🎉
Nice figure, but is it lift worthy ?
Dukes package has blond the figure has brown hair. lol 😂 Luke sky walker mistake
I love tiger force but white t shirts never looked good. And yellow figures seem to suck. I hate yellow figures.
White always turns yellow to. lol 😂 sucks
🤡🤡🤡🤡😄😄😄🙏🏽👎🏽
