Jason, I just love your videos! You give your opinion without beating around the bush and therefore, I know where you stand on each of the brands and exactly why you feel as you do. Being new to the world of pastels, you are saving me a whole lot of frustration and $$$! Thank you so much for that! Blessings from across the pond.
Thanks for the honest in depth reviews you do. I only have a few but I bought them as singles across several brands, but I do prefer the Pitt pastels, quality of wood is a good consideration.
I agree about the Cretacolor. I bought the whole set and can’t wait to get rid of them only because of what a nuisance they are to sharpen. The Caran D’ache sounds like a nice set for colours but aside from the fact that they are way too expensive, if they break as easily as the Cretacolour then I know I won’t like them. Thanks for the info.
Why am I the only one that uses Conte for wildlife? I find them so easy to lay down & to sharpen. I use the others for specific colours but love the Conte pencils
Thank you, Jason! I purchased 48 Koh-I-Noor Giaconda pastel pencils for less than €34 at Amazon France. They're a little softer, but I love them because they work so well on top of other pastel layers (I mainly use pastel sticks).
I have some Carbathellos coming in the mail. Question on the lightfast ratings. down to what level do people use for art they are selling? *** and up? or would you limit yourself to their **** and ***** pencils? the 60 set gets smaller really fast this way?
Really surprised at the criticism for Cretacolor. Started buying them recently and they're quickly becoming my go to pencil. No issues sharpening at all. Glad you didn't bring the Derwent range into the equation. Feel greasy, very poot.
Hi Jason, I’ve had my pastel pencils a very long time (CarbbOthello) at least 10 years. My issues are with some of the pastels in the pencils crumble so badly the light pink especially even purchasing new ones I have the same issues. Most of the browns I added new pencils so they aren’t all very old. Some of the shaft wood has split right up the pencil. Have you had issues with your pencils?
Hi Jason ,your videos are always so informative thank you for sharing. I have. 3 out the 5 you reviewed 👍🏻 my question is which swordfish sharpener is best Amazon has a few different models , I would appreciate so much your advice. Thank you
I can't afford the larger sets of Carbothello and Pitt. Which set would you recommend to start with the smallest sets? Do the 12 have enough for something like portrait maybe? Or should I go for the 24 or 36 in each? Or just get a larger set of Carbothello or Pitt(one or the other and get a larger set) and begin with those and the pan pastels? Would appreciate your thoughts on this. I do plan to draw horses too. I'm looking into getting the skin tones pallet of pans to begin with as a base to work with. Thank you!
Can you specify which CarbOthello pencils are these ? Are they the " chalk pastel coloring pencils ? It gets confusing otherwise ... I ordered the chalk pastels ( without the word " coloring " ) and they were quite " chalky " , even more then the Faber Castell Pitt . I had to send them back . Thank you
All pastels are a type of chalk and require the appropriate paper. Carbothello only have one type the only variation is the amount of pencils in the tin you purchase. They are not wax base or oil base pencils like color pencils that I think you could be used to.
My patreon art channel is nothing to do with Facebook. We just also have a member Facebook group for those that like to join that. We also have a separate patreon member forum too.
Continue blessing the world with your talent. I need a 12-step program, as I'm addicted to your videos! Thanks so much for this info, Jason.

What about the Derwent pastel pencil?

In Spain, I saw in Amazon, the Gioconda cost 34 € in carton box. It is very very cheap.
Great review and the reasoning was unbiased. Thanks
Exist some difference between chalk-pastel coloring pencil and the "chalk-pastel pencil? Both from stabilo

36 pencils is the middle ground...
Always buy the largest set you can afford because you cant mix colors and you will end up frustrated when you cant find the color you need.
Thnx for this video Jason.
Which electric sharpener do you use ?
Hi, Your opinion on Derwent?
Very helpful! Thanks.
Very useful information.
Thank you so much!
Stabile,!!!!!!!!!!♡♡♡

Caran D'ache is just the best.
Sure not, Faber Castell is always the best for Artists!
Cretacolor are awful, just non stop breakages. I'd of had Derwent and Conte pencils above them.
I test others in another video. I agree
